It is really nice when you meet someone who is a good, honest person. When the world seems so ugly and unkind, these experiences give hope.
I had some items from my parents that I didn't really know what to do with - a pocket watch, pearls, costume jewellery, that didn't have any real meaning to the family. I saw an ad in our local paper placed by someone who buys such items. I contacted him and he stopped by, made us an offer and paid cash.
Today, he emailed me and said he realized the chain on the pocket watch is actually silver, so he will stop by with an extra $50 for us.

There was a November tornado in Erin, Ontario, last night. In Canada, in November, when we are usually getting our first snowfall, this planet is in serious distress.
The National Weather Service has just started surveying the damage in Choctaw (30 mi NE from me but 10 miles from downtown OKC). There was a lot of damage and a number of minor injuries so they waited to assess until the roads and power had been restored. It looks like a week from today could be an issue but they won't know more until later this week.

My wife bought a Model 3 in December...the thing is a rocket ship. She loves it, and the technology is awesome, but I am still a bit afraid of it
based on my math yes, was trying to hold off until 2026 for the cheaper rivian to support a small local business but her car was on the verge of death
I drive an 11-year-old Chevy spark that I intend to keep as long as it's still running, though I just put $700 into replacing the ignition cylinder and have to replace the thermostat to pass a smog check by January, so I'm at the point where if I get another raise within the next six months I may look to upgrade, and have my eyes on a Model 3. If they run another 0% APR promotion around that time I might bite.

we are supposed to have more seasonable temps late next week and the meterologists are calling the mid 40's an arctic blast. Sigh

What a coincidence, the Flex streaming box from Xfinity that was working perfectly at my old place suddenly won't work in the new house because I need the latest and greatest box (for a $15 fee of course)

I was chatting with them online last night and got disconnected, so I started the chat again this afternoon and wow, suddenly they can offer me a "free" 10th gen iPad with "unlimited data at no extra charge" just because I'm a long term valued customer.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Of course it's actually a promo for 12 months designed to get you to add a mobile line and eventually charge you an arm and a leg. I don't even like apple products. Pass.

Why must they be like this.....

Twitter is crashing pretty quickly & Bluesky is gaining at a fast pace. Rumours are that Twitter will merge with Truth Social, so you really may want to get off Twitter very soon before it collapses. This doesn't show last 2 weeks which is the biggest exodus in Twitter history.

Not surprised, but interesting to see where they'll play and also wonder if this will have any impact on how they construct their new ballpark. In California, you need earthquake resistance. In Florida, you need hurricane resistance.

If they have any sense at all, you would have to think so. The old roof they had on the Rays' stadium was just silly in that location. Folks need to build smarter. Like you said, in California, or Japan, you need to proof against earthquakes, some parts of the world its wildfires, some it's flooding. For better or worse, people aren't going to suddenly move out on mass from natural disaster-prone areas. So at least make your infrastructure more resilient and fit for purpose in those places.

I'm struggling with paying $55 million to fix up a dump that's already scheduled to be demolished in 3 years. There must be other alternatives.

I never used Twitter, but people are really that butthurt?

Feels like the internet, rather than a central meeting point for all has reverted into a collection of separate echo chambers

100%. It'll hurt the Rays in the short term, but they'd ultimately be much better off and it would make much more financial sense for them to find a place to play that they can stay in until the new stadium is ready. Just demolish the Trop now and be done with it.

I get that but the idea is that the $55 million will have the subsidiary effect of stimulating the local economy after the disaster. The people who rail on about public money should never be used on sports stadiums and whatever are missing the point that in addition to 81 games a year they also host concerts and other shows that circulate money and create jobs. Owners shouldn't use the threat of relocation as a political football to extract extra money out of towns, but there is a return on investment.

The Rays could possibly get away with renting the Yankees' or Phillies' spring training facility for a couple seasons while awaiting their new stadium, but the rainy weather makes playing in an outdoor stadium difficult. It still feels like the only two options are to pay for the repairs to the Trop or play in another city for a couple years as a temp home. I think the league and organization would both prefer to stay in their home base and help the people there than to play in Montreal or Buffalo with no established foothold.

If you haven't used it, you don't see how bad it has become. It isn't about being butthurt, it about Musk turning it into a sewer. Privacy is a huge issue and he keeps stripping it away. You can't block trolls and stalkers from seeing you anymore. The list goes on. He takes money to get a verified checkmark, it doesn't matter if you are a stalker, impersonator....

When I made the post I was going to say $55m for a stadium that's going to be torn down in 4 years when it's replaced (supposedly) sounds insane..then I thought of the above. If it helps give people jobs and puts money back into the local economy it's worth it. Plus, they'll probably recoup their investment quickly. $55M isn't much compared to the $1.3B for the new stadium. I hope the new one is engineered better. I went to some Sox games at the Trop about 20 years ago. The place was bland and boring at best.

I mean, look at Facebook 🤮 I left that platform around 2017 and haven't looked back. Never had Instaspam or Twitter either. Social media is trash. HF is as close as I get to having one
