Should be noted he wasn't playing for Team Canada he was on one of the club teams I believe. If he was on Team Canada that probably would have been a story.
Ahhthat makes more sense. I thought that I had heard that he was on the Canadian Spengler Cup team, which surprised me, and he wasn't on the website. I even watched two games and did not notice him mentioned. Probably should have realized that he was on a different team.

I did not notice that Formenton scored, not that TSN could do as you say without getting sued. Hockey Canada did bury that he was on the team though, which is shady. As for the rest, no, TSN already buried one tournament due to allegations that have yet to even lead to a charge. It would be stupid to continue discussing said allegations with no particularly relevant new information during a hockey broadcast.
In fairness. they haven't mentioned that other situation with Ukraine either.

It's actually Formenton and Virtanen on the same team.lol Not saying either is convicted guilty but kind of funny.

Duthie has mentioned it a few times as the obvious reason that Russia is there, not that the two situations are close enough in scale to warrant comparison. Which is fine provided he does not go into his opinions on Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which should interest no one and have no relevance to a hockey broadcast.

At least no Pierre getting all hot and bothered over teenaged boys anymore.

I miss Pierre at WJC time. I'll also never forget his appreciation for Shawn Belle's body.

It's a youth tournament that totally flies under the radar in most of the world. Let's be real here, 9 out of 10 times it's a coronation ceremony for Canadian hockey superiority in a way the World Champs aren't. Given the lack of best-on-best competition otherwise these world juniors are the only regular occasion for Canadians to pat themselves on the back about how awesome Canadian hockey is vs the rest of the world. That's why it's a big deal in Canada and covered in a significant fashion.

If the Canadian media didn't cover it, hardly anyone would outside niche hockey outlets. So TSN's coverage is basically the most professional, most in-depth you're going to find, but it's also going to be Canada-centric in an extreme degree and why wouldn't it.

It used to be far worse before the rise of USA Hockey and the Scandinavian programs when it was basically Canada vs Russia for gold every year. With the rise of all the development programs I find the coverage to be much more NHL-centric in terms of who is a prospect and who belongs to which NHL team.

I agree with a lot of this. Only thing is that Canada doesn't win that much anymore. 4 in last 10 but Finns and US have 3 each there too. It's close and no one has won a back to back in a dozen years. They days of Canada winning 5 in a row seem to be over.. for now. Having said that.... they got a damn good chance to win this one and be the first back to back champs. Of course, Covid, empty arenas, no Russia, always in Canada.. it's an asterisk (note I would've celebrated a Czech win like no other so the asterisks aren't an issue for me). It'd be like a World Cup without England.. they are amazing but never win it. That's Russia... amazing but never win it.

For the rest.. all of it. This was built on marketing and hype and most casual Canadian fans will insist that it goes best on best and then U20 to determine superiority. I assume the 'heyday' was when Canada won 5 in a row and that become unbearable if you weren't cheering for Canada.lol

Having said that. it's a part of Xmas with the SPengler and TSN has done a great job of creating a 'bowl' like event. I get excited every boxing day! THey even show exhibition games!

Why is anyone surprised that a TV show explicitly designed for Canadians is geared towards Canadians?

Is it even legally available to watch outside Canada?
I've read they raised the rates so the Euro broadcasters bought less games. Czech TV only shows Czech games but a game like Swiss-Slovakia would be of great interest to the Czechs for instance as we're both something special right now.

TSN gets way too much hate. They do their job and they do a pretty good job of it. People complain about hype but it’s not like they don’t hype up other teams and their prospects and their goals.

I actually see a lot of self-hate from Canadians. I see some Canadians who cheer against Canada because “there’s too much hype”… it’s pathetic. People care too much about insignificant things and need something to complain about.

Only thing that bothers me is they repeat the same facts throughout the tournament, which is fine if you’re just watching a few games and hear them once, but if you’re watching most of the games it gets a bit annoying lol

James Duthie kind of sucks and so does Button at times, but it seems fair overall.

As a Canadian, I want the country with the most hab prospects to win. If that's Canada, go Canada. If that's the US, go US. Austria for some reason ? Let's go Austria !

The upsets so far have been great. Hopefully they continue into the elimination round.

Their metrics obviously show most of their viewers don’t watch all the games. Posters on this board are not TSN’s core audience. Posters here are what the rest of the world call “geeks.”

I've always enjoyed TSN's coverage. The only issue is Button and when they let him talk too much while seemingly being too timid to tell him to shut up so he rambles on and on about stuff nobody cares about while there's a game going on. But aside from Button, TSN's solid.

Amen brother. Even some of us in Canada think TSN is hot garbage on a July summer day.

The editorial stuff aside, their technical presentation of this years event has been amateurish. I watched a game on TSN1 earlier this week (Thursday USA Swiss game) that has no intermission panel, no cut always for commercials so camera just showed black screen with arena audio at times, they showed Button and Beyak on mute yapping with an off screen producer or tech during breaks in play or just before resuming PBP, intermission show consisted of camera trained on the arena scoreclock. It made HockeyTV look Like it was Emmy Award level TV. Unprofessional garbage.
I watched a panel, never had the dead space. Are you located in another country ?

Kind of…I’m in Saskatchewan.

Like I said, it was on the app TSN1, a weird situation.
Ahh ya the app, ya apps and online do use dead space, while the network is on commercial, and there are a lot at intermissions, but the whole intermission wouldn’t be, at least I would hope not.
Happens in US as well.

Edit: just checked you said TSN1, didn’t mention the app,, that’s probably the confusion.

That is a problem in almost all hockey broadcasts now. Half the game the crew is yapping bout crap that no one cares about while the play is going on.

Posters use to say the same thing about McGuire. It is what it is.

I've seen how US networks like NBC cover events like the Olympics so I don't complain about TSN too much. You won't see things like "This groin pull has been brought to you by Tostitos".
