The more I think about it, the more I think we should be patient and let it play out.

What exactly is Gallagher's leverage here? The guy is pretty banged up, we're in a flat cap era, and he never topped 55 points. What team exactly is going to come up and offer him 7 millions on the open market? Most teams will once again be up against the cap. And those who won't likely won't be at a point in their rebuild where they will want to offer Gallagher a 40M+ contract.

Bergevin has all the leverage in the world here. We're very deep on the RW, both in our prospects pool and on our NHL roster. The more I think about it. The more I think Bergevin might be offering around 5.75M. And why wouldn't he? Gallagher has absolutely no leverage here.

I also think that's a huge reason. Probably frustrated that the nerd in place over there did nothing of value to inprove - or augment as he would ridiculously say - his team.

But the story broke from a Vancouver reporter? What does that have to do with defending the Leafs?

What past events lead you to wholly disregard the reporter’s credibility?

Why are you calling the Leafs “his team”? What is that based on? I just don’t see a connection.

Not talking about the initial report as much as I'm talking about Elliotte Friedman and Frank Sevaralli putting oil on the fire. Friedman went as far as hinting Gallagher felt betrayed because of the deal we gave to Anderson. Ridiculous stuff. As for Sevaralli, he's clearly coming up with rumours out of nos ass on the Canucks being interested without Gallagher even being on the market.

Funny how any report that isn’t roses and sunshine has to be fiction and conspiracy.

I just wonder what leads to such paranoia., and the constant insecurity about the Leafs.

Yep, 5.75M x 4 years is what I'd be proposing. I'd go + 250K OR 1 more year if that's the deal breaker but that's pretty much it.

Even if i like the player. Gallagher a warrior. He remains to be a second line winger. So lets see around the league. I would compare the impact of Gallagher in a team, like TJ oshie and Cam Atkinson does. Both are paid 5,8 and 5,75 aav, in a non covid era. So, gallagher should expect a contract around 5,5 millions aav. If he ask more. Goodbye. I mean, i really like it, but a team become bad when a GM fall in love with few players and give them bad contracts. I think his agent ask about 7 millions be cause gallagher was underpaid since a lot of year, but this not make sense.

Love Gallagher. Absolute All-Time Fan Favourite.

He is going to have to accept less than he may be asking for. Maybe he can get a NMC or something to placate him?

After listening and watching how the media handled and reported on the Habs interest in Hall over the free agent deadline...I'm just going to let this play out and not worry about it. The media have really stepped up the "gossip" over the last few seasons.

It’s the agent who most likely leaked the info to the media trying to get negotiation leverage on Habs...I sense desperation on part of the agent. The market is in a free fall...

KK with a great yr and playoff 8 million

KK with a 90 -95pt season and great playoff..ask 10 million

He and Suzuki are danger zone contracts...either one could explode and we pay big $
The way this team plays and will play, no one should get that many points.

Somewhere on earth in a hospital
Because if a 20 goal scorer gets 5.5 then a 30 goal scorer gets 6.5
Gallagher will not get 30 goals anymore. he wont be playing 17min a game.
If you pay him for past feats , means u are in doubt.
Gallagher is at max a 50 points scorer with top minute. Back on a second line he will hardly end up with 40~ points. 6.5M for a second is just wasted money with limited tools.

Yup. Gallagher is too important to the team to let him walk. Obviously if signing him proves impossible, he must be traded for similarly valued assets. It's kind of funny how every time we hear rumblings contract wise, the first reaction is "trade that bum!". An awful lot of you sound like that guy who says "I don't understand why girls don't like me, I'm a nice guy!" Followed by "you're not that hot anyways". Like seriously, take your emotions out of this equation and look at what Gallagher has meant for this team since he's been here. This guy is everything the Canadiens currently stand for. They simply won't allow him to leave unless he specifically insists on being traded. What a farce some of your responses are.

For everyone else who is not so delusional, kudos.
