Player Discussion Troy Terry

Terry 100% threw the first swing.

You can argue that he didn't drop the gloves so Beagle shouldn't have either, you can argue that it never should have started because Zegras shouldn't have been crosschecked.

But you can't argue that it was an ordinary scrum. Terry came in hot and throwing.

Honest question, why are only the ducks the only team posters are allowed to make Duck Hunting Season or Roasted Duck references? I thought we couldn't post things like LA Q***ns or Coyote R**dkill, etc?

Because Ducks.

I keep seeing this, or people saying he threw an elbow or came at Beagle from behind when he was already engaged. Literally none of those things are true. He comes at Beagle directly from the front and moves his arm across to trap the Beagle's arm--the one Beagle had just used to throw a punch at him. It's absurd to call what does with his arm a punch (or a flying elbow, lol).

This narrative was so commonplace that I thought I'd missed something, but nope. Only someone being completely disingenuous would have thought he was in a fight at that point. He's aiming at Terry's head before Terry even arrives. He's 100% in the wrong.

Throwing? I’d have to watch it again, but I don’t recall Terry throwing punches. More of a shove or attempted head lock or something? I guess that warrants being beaten bloody.

Has anyone in our organization said anything about Tyson Nash’s comments?

“That’s the problem with these young players,” Nash said, referring to both Terry and Trevor Zegras. “You wanna embarrass guys? You wanna skill it up? You better be prepared to get punched in the mouth.”
Nash tried to backpedal the comments a little. He knows he is wrong. The NHL doesn’t want McDavid or Matthews punched in the face every time they score a fancy goal.

That's the follow through from an attemtped punch to the face.

I'm not saying Beagle was right. I am saying Ducks fans trying to frame it as Terry getting beaten up for skill play are being a little homeristic.

I dont think terry tried to elbow him but he def threw the first haymaker with his glove hand. Fwiw I think he missed?

I watched a slow motion replay and I'm not even sure he threw the first jab or attempted jab. Beagle gets him with one just as he's in motion.

The idea some on the main boards have that Beagle was just defending himself is nonsense. He went after Cam first and was clearly just looking to fight anyone.

Was it a Haymarker or him trying to get his arm around the guy? He mean he literally doesn't even drop his stick. If you go in to throw punches you don't tie up your own hand that can be used to hit or defend. What's more likely, Terry who's up 5-0, isn't known for fighting or even aggressive play goes into a scrum with intent to punch some one or he goes into a the scrum trying to tie up an opposing player like happens all the time? It makes zero sense to me.

If Terry just wanted to tie up an opposing player in standard scrum mode, he would have grabbed the nearest guy and not gone flying in at the guy who had just done something wrong

And if Terry had actually wanted to start a full on brawl he would have dropped his gloves on the way in, and if he was trying to injure him he would have dropped the gloves and gone for a sucker punch. Nothing he did warranted being beaten bloody, or having a continued beating while on the ice.

Another shitty take. The only guy closer to Terry is Eriksson who's standing there with his thumb up his ass talking to the goalie. Beagle's next and he's standing over Zegras who appears hurt. Why on earth wouldn't he move to engage Beagle instead of Eriksson? Do you even think these things through? Why is it so important to you that Terry deserved this?

I understand that some people think with their emotions, and that can't be helped, but you can stop accusing me of saying things I didn't say.

There's this oversimplistic view of the world that says that as long as you're on the right side (Beagle was wrong), you can say whatever you want. If you say anything that *isn't* part of that setup, you must be on the other side.

Just because I can see with my eyes that Terry came in hot and threw a punch doesn't mean that I think Beagle was right. This is that nuance thing that, again, I understand, many people are too emotional to understand.

Beagle overreacted to an alleged "dig" at the puck and threw a violent crosscheck into Zegras' back, Terry came in hot and threw a punch, Beagle used that as an excuse to overreact again and punch Terry repeatedly with an ungloved fist.

Beagle did not attack Troy Terry for being too skilled while Terry was innocently trying to tie someone up in a regular season scrum.

I can accurately describe what happened without saying "terry deserved it."

Correct and agreed.

You can't cloak a bad take in a pretense of neutrality. I know it's very internet-y to disdain emotion and pretend that doing so helps you avoid subjectivity, but all you're doing is showing your ass as someone who can't see the obvious for fear of being perceived a certain way. It's pitiful.
