That's all true, but WPG could get better value from another team that overpays. There's no incentive for them to trade Trouba for Maatta straight up. WPG and PIT are not good partners for a trade like this.

yeah because trouba's value is close to McDavid

I get that he is vital to your core, and is in a way what Rielly is to the leafs. But the absurdity that he's worth a generational/franchise centre is ridiculous. Imo Trouba could end up being a high-end 2, but he'll probably be a high end 3.

He isn't worth that, but we have no reason to move him. He fills a big need, is only 22 and still improving steadily. If someone wants him, he either offers a replacement (which there aren't many of) or overpays massively.

I understand that some of you want to gauge value, but considering that the Jets are negotiating to sign him, gauging value seems a waste of time. Especially considering that, with Myers currently rehabbing multiple surgeries, there is no way in hell the Jets would even consider trading Trouba right now until they get a chance see what Myers looks like this coming season. Good luck in your search for D elsewhere.

Which is why I said Maatta, 2nd, and a 3rd. Maybe Maatta and 2 seconds. Thats as far as PIT would probably go, and that's under the assumption that they didn't just win the Stanley Cup. Like I've said, PIT and WPG aren't good trade partners for Trouba.

He already has number one numbers.

ok then sign trouba. Clearly something is going on with that so dont act like everything is all peaches and cream when if it was a given that he is the future in WPG he'd have a contract right now

is he going to arbitration?

"Clearly something is going on in Winnipeg and Trouba wants out! You can trust me. I know what I am talking about. I don't quite understand how arbitration works but my other points are solid gold!"

Trouba might be the most overrated player in these boards......Its like he's still living off his world juniors performance.

Lots of RFAs don't have contracts right now.

Look, when the calendar hits September, if Trouba doesn't have a contract then you can say "something is going on", but not in mid-July.

Can't see JR trading Olli Maatta He's a nice LHD signed at a very reasonable deal $4.83M for the next 5 years or so. Trouba most likely will be seeking far more then Maatta like around $6 million to $7 million Maatta is like 1 year younger. Really doesn't make to much sense for JR to do this.

Considering what all other defensemen comparable to Trouba signed for...he can seek for it all he likes. He won't get it. The market is set.

Frankly I don't see a reason why the Pens would ditch Määttä and his team-friendly contract (and extras) for a comparable player seeking far more money.

I think this fills a need for both teams.

Trouba
Connor

For

Maatta
Pouliot
2017 2nd

Solves the Jets LHD problems and both are on great contracts, they have plenty of W depth. Pitt gets a good RHD and Connor can jump in the top 6 which needs help on the wings.

I dont get this from Jets prospective.

Maatta for Trouba, value is there for both part, maybe some minor tweaks.

But why do we want Pouliot? We already got a bunch of tweaners fighting for the last spots. Postma, Chariot, Stuart (help) Strait (even more help) and Morrisey, we dont need 1 more.
I know Pitts got hard ons for skilled wingers, but sorry, Connor is not for sale...

Not an advanced stats guy, so not going to pretend to know how well Maata/Pouliot have done.

Connor's going nowhere until we see what we have in the NHL. He's our 2nd best prospect behind Laine (assuming Helle doesnt count)
