He is free to sign an offer sheet, and apparently could have moved on to Toronto.

Where was this reported? I have seen the occasional american ie tkachuk refuse
To play in Canada. It doesn't generally happen here as we have had multiple Americans sign and re sign here. Plus he is from Detroit right? Toronto is as close to Detroit as pretty much every team in the nhl

Three way between WPG-TML-ANA

ANA
JVR

TML
TROUBA

WPG
FOWLER
2018 TML 1st if Fowler walks, 2018 2nd if he resigns.

ANA gets their top LW to go for the cup this year and next. Winnipeg gets a top 4 LHD and a pick, potentially a first if Fowler doesn't resign. TML get a kid that can play in our top 4 and grow with the team.

Nope Toronto is a no go for them...one of the tsn guys reported they were told no team in Canada is a "fit"

Not if Winnipeg is going to match.

If Winnipeg is going to match he isn't free to sign an offer sheet?

Regardless, those are the rules players and owners agreed to.

He is jets property, if that bothers him that much he is free to play in another league, or even take a year off and go find himself in India.

The issue with the offer sheet from Toronto has more to do with the fact that we don't have our third so we couldn't make the offer in the ballpark he wants. Second, if the offer is Reilly money then WPG easily matches.

Until I hear from his agent that he will only play for an american team you have to believe he would be willing to play in a place like Toronto.

If you rate those assets as more valuable then you should spend more time learning about hockey. I'm pretty sure you would be alone in the hockey world with that assessment... Sorry that may sound harsh but it is that cut and dry.

So on some magic planet if the jets offered you Trouba for a 1st you would say no according to your comments.... You either know very little about hockey or are full of hot air.... I'm gonna guess hot air....

I'd give up the first, but we'd likely need to lose another player to get Trouba under the cap so I'd have to know what the team would do to make that work.

Holy moly the Jets fans are going to be sad with the return

I rather doubt that.

Cheveldayoff is a very patient, intelligent GM that has NO ownership pressure to make a hasty move.

He also has significant young talent on his NHL team and also the AHL team and in the system.

Much more likely some team becomes willing to pay the ask then the Jets accepting any offer they feel doesn't help them in the way they feel is warranted to part with Trouba.

Not going to happen Toronto isn't a fit for Trouba, According to Darren Dreger he said that Overhardt stated that Canada isn't a fit for Trouba period. Fowler isn't getting dealt and Trouba wont be heading to Toronto. So Trouba to Toronto isn't happening Trouba will not sign there. That's per the TSN crew.

Trouba isn't getting moved for a late first. A more realistic offer would be Skjei plus 2 firsts.

So WPG wants a top 4 LHD but for some reason Fowler is not good enough. How many young ish top 4 LHD are up for possible trade my guess is not many. Look I get it that you think your gonna get the world and more but the reality is while Trouba is a great young player he is not Karlsson or PK, etc.

Even if he sits out, your team likely doesn't make the playoffs and you lose another year. Fowler makes WPG a playoff team.

Don't you know that PK and Karlsson are both 4 years older than Trouba. That means Trouba is valued as though he might be a 4 time Norris Trophy winner. At least that seems to be the mentality of everyone who thinks Fowler is chopped liver. Fowler + a 1st (especially a 1st from Toronto) is pretty damn fair.

IF they get quality consistent goaltending perhaps, it still is a very tough division.

Fowler if he's only there less than 2 years has really very little if any appeal to Winnipeg if it means giving up an asset like Trouba.

That makes no sense for the Jets and Cheveldayoff doesn't need to read posts to understand that.

lol in what world

In a world where the rangers try to win a stanley cup rather than lay an egg in the playoffs. You like other Rags fans seem to think Skjei has some huge value. A few secondary assists over the course of a dozen games doesn't mean he holds much value at all.

There's no way the jets let him sit all season right? It would kill the value he had left in my opinion...

Something has to give sooner or later...

If they are getting only crummy offers from the teams his agent has agreed to sign with why would they not sit him? More teams would have more cap flexibility before the draft next year so I don't think the offers would get much worse if at all?

Assuming Toby isn't traded this year or next. The great play of Josh M.

IMO Chevy should trade for a decent top 4 LHD prospect expansion exempt and the best centre roster player (likely a 2nd liner) he can get. This will hopefully mean a replacement for Toby in a couple years and a roster C to help us now.

If this happens I'll be very happy with our return for Trouba. IMO we don't need a top pairing LHD like Trouba in return

That was my thinking

The worst piece in that deal is actually Burmistrov. Graves is a great prospect.

The value isn't horrible but Winnipeg wouldn't accept it. It doesn't really do anything for them in terms of needs. Unless you ship Zuccarello somewhere else for a young defenseman, Zucc isn't going to work being the main piece.

Also, there are other options for the Rangers besides Trouba. We just won back to back games 5-2 after playing 6 games in 9 nights. We have time to see if anything else presents itself. Don't get me wrong, Trouba would be a great addition. I just don't know if he will be the answer as these two teams don't exactly make great trading partners.

Good post. Makes sense. I know the Jets want a young LHD of Trouba's caliber, but that doesn't exist and I REALLY don't want to trade Skjei. I'd be more willing to trade Graves.
