Why would he sign and play? To hope he gets traded? Then the jets can easily do what Tampa did with drouin and just refuse to trade him. The only leverage Trouba has to force a trade is to holdout.

His options dramatically rise if he is signed.

The stances right now are the Jets want him to play for them, he doesn't want to play for the jets.

Okay next step, the Jets want to send him someplace, Trouba is unsigned so needs to sign wherever he gets sent. Jets have teams A-F in mind, Trouba has teams F-K in mind. Team F knows this and doesn't make a competitive offer so Jets decide to sit on his rights.

Everyone is unhappy with this scenario, Trouba decides to sign for a term he can live at, at a AAV that is worth his while, Jets are now free to trade him to teams A-F at a value they are happy with.

The problem is, he may not force a trade. I have no problem with him using his leverage, I think he will regret it but it is his right.

He can't put signing with Winnipeg is giving up the little leverage he does have.

That's right. He used every last bit of his leverage when he requested a trade. It didn't get him shipped out of Winnipeg.

If you are holding out, you have no way to affect your team, OR prove other GMs to raise their offers. All you can do is wait for someone to budge. They're now five months into that tactic. No success.

If you sign, you lose leverage, but now you can gain some. You can affect the way the team plays, and show people that you are worth trading the piece that Winnipeg wants for. Your cap hit and salary also count now. Without a contract, you are a non-factor money wise.

It's a simple concept. Lose a battle to win a war.

Poor players have guaranteed contracts and when they can't do their job they still get paid. Not like NFL, how many contract bought out because player is not good enough anymore.

He should sign contract at what the market says he worth and play in good faith that Chevy will try to sign him. By summer a lot of teams could be in a better situation.

He can't sign for what he is worth because the way RFA works in the NHL depresses the value of players coming off their market value for whatever reason. Probably a combination of teams being unwilling to give up the compensation, and GMs knowing that fact.

I think a situation where a QO for a RFA is given at different levels which corresponds to a compensatory draft pick at the tail end of each round. This pick is outside of the the normal picks and cannot be traded. Similar to how baseball works.

uh oh Canada has hurt fee fees now

maybe Canada should tell the nhl we are taking our 60% revenue and our 7 teams and going home and you can have your 24 teams and 40% revenue. we will pay our 4th liners 5 mill a year and all the superstars on the American teams can fight it out for 1 million a year. sick and tired of Canada making these guys rich then most of them getting no trade clauses to Canada.

The University of Michigan has one of the best Med Schools in the States, Just saying.

Trouba wants to go to med school now? It could also be that his girl friend has a snowballs chance to get into med school in Winnipeg. Not to mention the fact I suspect she would want to actually practice in the US without having to jump through hoops.

I'm Canadian. If I was getting paid millions of dollars to workin the states where I am taxed less and every single move I make isn't broadcast all over sports radio and keyboard jockeys don't go over every perceived slight I make regardless of their actual knowledge of the situation you can bet I would take every measure possible to make sure I stayed in the states.

You do know how NHL players are taxed right? I guess you could also ignore cost of living as well when looking at different cities.

But do not let facts get in the way of your reality

I never said he was going to play in the NHL. Someone before me literally said they own him and my response was that they don't, because he doesn't have to play for them. I never said he could play in the NHL

Well were all talking in an NHL sense here.

Is he going to the KHL: NO
Is he going to the SHL: NO
IS HE GOING TO ANY EUROPEAN LEAGUE FULL TIME: NO!!!!!!!

Why even bother with semantics just to make a point that everyone agrees with.

No they don't own him to the point where he has to be their limo driver, but in an NHL sense he can't do **** without the Jets saying yes.

Absolutely amazing.

So, when you were 22 did you think of changing employers and moving somewhere new because your GF wanted to go to school there? This is total BS. The guy wants out and is a liar that can't deal with being truthful. If he quits hockey and gets a job as a brick layer he will see how the real world works.
