It's hard to summon up justification of why he shouldn't be able to net a deal comparable to Aaron Ekblad. It's not like this should come as a surprise to anyone though. It was immediately apparently on settling @$2.8M that Trouba would either command a massive deal next time around to make up for the slight savings, or that he'd end up traded somewhere else.
It's kinda stupid on Chevy's part. He got the "bargain years" of Trouba in the seasons the Jets aren't likely to win much of anything. He probably would've had the opportunity to shave at least a million off the caphit if he'd just extended Trouba longterm at bigtime money in the first place.
