Proposal: Trouba all encompassing trade thread

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. I tried one with Gardiner, but the more I think about it, the less I think that's the route we'd take, nor would Winnipeg want. So I'll try the three team trade:

:leafs
James Van Riemsdyk (to ANA)
Matt Hunwick (to WPG)

:ducks
Cam Fowler (to WPG)

:jets
Jacob Trouba (to TOR)

Additional pieces added as needed. ANA would need to work out cap situation still (i.e. find someone who will take on Stoner), but at least they get a top 6 LW.

That's another thing to think about. It shows the type of character Trouba is on a damn RFA contract. I would be really reluctant on bringing him into any organization knowing the back story.

1. Columbus doesn't have the cap space for this deal.
2. Columbus is already protecting Murray, Jones, and Savard in the expansion draft. If they brought on Trouba, they'd have to expose Savard and lose him for nothing.

NO from the Oilers. Letestu on the 3rd line? He's a mediocre 4th liner at best. RNH is also an overpayment for Trouba. RNH is going nowhere.
 
Not sure JJ is the defender we need. Already have buff and Myers roaming around and JJ is not knowns for his quality d-play...

Once again you Leaf fans are forgetting we NEED to sign Lindholm and Rakell. We are adding an extra million in cap by adding JVR and dumping fowler. Unless you take Stoner or Bieksa back this deal doesn't work.

So to make this work: % retained on JVR or Toronto takes a cap dump back.

I'd do either of those things to make the deal work

I don't have time to read the whole thread, so I apologize in advance if this has been discussed, but isn't Hamonic for Trouba the obvious move?

As a hawks fan I'd move Seabrook+Pokka. Not sure if that's enough, but it should be in the ballpark.

You are taking back an extra 250k by adding JVR (4 mill vs. 4.25) . If you want retention on JVR, you'd be including high end prospects and picks.

I know you have to resign Lindholm and Rakell. I didn't forget. I also know that this deal doesn't need to solve all of ANA's problems in one. This deal fills holes in each team's respective lineups (ANA top 6 LW, WPG top 4 LD, TOR young RD with potential) while keeping the cap situation relative equal to what it was before (technically WPG takes on an extra 5.2 mill and we free up 5.45 million, but considering we'll probably have to pay Trouba between 5-5.5 mill, it's about equal).

Now all ANA has to do is find a taker for Stoner outside of this deal. It would probably cost you fewer assets and would make the deal run a lot smoother. Considering the amount of cap dump deals that have occurred this year, it wouldn't be surprising nor that hard given ANA has some decent prospects they can probably live without in exchange for dumping him.

If Stoner has to be a part of the deal, then I'm sure we'd take him on IF we can find a different taker to take him on. But once again, that makes the deal more choppy. I should also say that this is already more than most Leafs fans want to give up value wise... And I somewhat don't blame them since we'd take on the most risk and maybe not even get the most reward.

Does the 3 way trade work with Toronto? Ducks may have to make it happen soon. Every day goes by and Rakell isn't signed is one less legit player on our wing position that isn't filled on our roster.

Well your fan base wanted Fowler months ago because of Trouba not signing. You wanted to do a swap of defenseman 1 for 1 with a few trickled add ins. Now you don't want him? Well you don't have much a choice now with Trouba

Sorry not sure where you got that idea from, I'm on the Jets forum daily.....the general mass of Jets fans aren't high on Fowler then or now and yes we see him play lots. We have lots of choices, haven't you seen the reports of "many" GMs calling Chevy about Trouba? Suspect Fowler isn't in Chevy top 3 returns
