Zegras game needs to mature. Fun for a young rebuilding team but not useful for winning the cup

Highly skilled no doubt

I think his effectiveness will be limited until he gets a lot stronger. He’s gets pushed around way too easily.
Vancouver fan here in peace. What is the deal with all of the Zegras trade proposals on the main boards? I can get that he's not a core guy for Verbeek. Always thought he was Anaheim's equivalent of Kessel for Pitt, high end skilled winger, but not in the Sid, Geno, Letang core group. Felt that the Ducks core moving forward was MacTavish, Carlsson, a couple of the Dmen. Borderlien on Terry in that group. But, Zegras, if they need cap room, he's like the first to get shipped out.

It's just lazy reporting/speculation. Reporters see that Drysdale was traded, and since both he and Zegras were camp holdouts, and neither were drafted by Verbeek, that he must be available too. Never mind the fact that the situations are not at all comparable. Drysdale was part of a stacked young D prospect group. Moving him for help elsewhere made sense. Zegras is not part of a stacked anything. He's needed in Anaheim now and in the future.

Mainstream media outlets piggybacking on Anaheim being in the news with the Drysdale trade and trying to infer the contract negotiations had anything to do with it, which would then logically lead to the assumption that Zegras is next because he also missed most of camp due to contract negotiations. Fans of other teams predictably eating it up because they want Z.

It's hogwash and should be treated as such.

Edit: Yeah, what @ADHB said.

I would not be surprised if Verbeek does move Zegras down the line. Doubt Verbeek, given the way he played the game, would keep Zegras if his all around game doesn't improve to the level he'd want it to. But, I don't envision Verbeek working the phones hard, but would take a call if asked.

That has no bearing on who he decides to keep or trade. For example, he traded Deslauries, Lindholm, and Manson in his first season as our GM.

There isn't a realistic scenario I see that would lead Verbeek to trade Zegras anytime soon.

The rumors are still ridiculous to me. Trading JD doesn't mean Zegras is going, and neither does acquiring Gauthier. We're shallow as a kiddie pool when it comes to decent forwards, Gauthier doesn't move the needle at all as far as I'm concerned. If PV disagrees he's an idiot and I'm not ready to call him that yet.

Agreed. The rumors are clickbait in my opinion. And the "hes not a Verbeek type player" doesnt mean he will be traded either. He doesnt have to be Beeker type player in order to be great for marketing and be a net positive to the roster. There is always a business side to this stuff too, not just hockey.

Give me some names Mooseduck, I just wanna talk.

There was another poll about who players across the league most want to punch in the face and Zegras was tied with Tom Wilson.

Zegras is disliked, so the talks of him being overrated are likely coming from a place of dislike more than actually thinking the kid is overrated.

Nice to see Strome and Terry have his back.

Last seasons the 2 biggest complaints about him as a player were defensive play and yapping at the refs and getting too many penalties from it. His defensive play has been very good this season and he doesn't yap after calls any more. Eakins told Nesterenko to follow Z and McT around when he first joined the team because they worked harder and practiced more than anyone on the team. Seems like all he does is work on his game and try to improve yet a bunch of the public have convinced themselves it's the opposite.
