I'd give Frederic another month or so. I do think he's been playing better over the past month, so hopefully he can put together a few weeks of good play.

Freddy is a cipher - people seem to project whatever they want on him. Some want him to fight Olivier and Xhekaj every game. Even when you show who he has fought prior to this year it’s not enough. Some want him to produce 50 points on the third line with little PP time. Some want him running around without being productive like Kastelic. It’s kind of bizarre.

I’ve defended him the last several years when every line he played on was more effective with him than without him. He played like ass to begin the season. He’s a complementary player who is going to go as the team goes. Hes been better the last couple of weeks, but not up to how he played the last couple of years. Why people are completely giving up on him, other than the couple with irrational hatred of him, is beyond me.
Sure. I agree with some of this.

I just think it's the overall consistent effort that we're not seeing on a nightly basis. Some games you'll see him, then every 4-5 games you'll wonder if he was even on the ice.

I just feel like he goes missing in more games than not.

You're saying his expectations are 20/20, grinding physical game and drop the gloves with the fighters in the league. There might be one or two other players in the NHL who are expected do that. Certainly no one else on this club.

I mean he's second on the team in hits, 50% above #3 for forwards and we're still saying he's not engaged enough physicality. He's held to a different standard which certainly doesn't line up with his 2mil third liner status right now.

physical game is very hard to quantify because the natural instinct is to go to hits....but hits are at the eye of the beholder in different in all 32 arenas and not all his are equal. To your point, Frederic has the second most hits on the team, but if you didn't look up the hits stat would you say he's top 2 on the team in hits? I wouldn't. I would have thought maybe 5th or 6th. I would have thought Zadorov, McAvoy, Koepke would be more.

Who would you consider more physical this season? Charlie McAvoy or Elias Lindholm?

I've been impressed with Lindholms physical game. Glad he and McAvoy are playing the body the way they are.

As for the stat being subjective sure it is, but it's as objective a measure as we have for a "physical" game from a forward to compare with their teammates.

You're kind of side stepping the question. Lindholm has 1 less hit than McAvoy this season, but I don't know that anyone would say Lindholm is as physical as McAvoy. Do you think Frederic has been the 2nd most "physical" player on the team this year?

He was awful to start the season, I'm not arguing that, but saying he hasn't gotten shots in 9 games with no context is hilarious considering when you look around the league at 3rd liners it's a pretty common occurrence. I know that wasn't you but who I was talking about.

If you can say in only 3 games he's scored so he sucks, then surely you agree it's fair for me to say out of his -13 he was - 7 in the first 4 games and -16 in 8 games total.

So just like you saying he sucks because he only scored in 3 games you'd agree he's actually not that bad in +/- because most of it only happened in a handful of games right? Cherry picking no?
5 goals in the season, -13 overall.

Yes not as bad as the -13 overall would indicate, still leads the team overall.

He’s awful period this year, how can people think otherwise? It’s fathead sticker syndrome or something.

I don’t know if he will turn it around but the Bruins extension comments have vanished no?

He had two very good seasons. He’s not the same player for whatever reason anymore. Will it continue?

Regarding the bolded - is there a single player this season that you would say is playing at the same level as the last two? It's a team wide issue to me that a few choice guys are taking the most flak for.

For forwards, sure.

Hard to compare forwards and defensemen like that.

Not to start, but he's been a whole lot better since Sacco brought some sanity back to the team.

Same as their #1 center who's also on their #1 PP. Coyle's got 12.

I mean Frederic is 4th on the club in shots on goal. Don't think Frederic shooting the puck is the problem with this team.
I think it speaks to the inconsistent nature of his play, no? He can be 4th on the team in shots and still not have a shot in nearly a third of his games? That doesn't seem troubling to you at all? I think it also speaks to the lack of offense as a collective if a guy can register zero shots for 1/3 of the games and still be 4th on the team, no?

But regardless of his shot totals, or hit totals, or any other arbitrary number you want to discuss. Let's just net it out. Has he been good in your opinion, this season? Not just the last 4 games, or 8 games, or the past 2 weeks. Has he been good for the entirety of this year, according to you?

I don't know, he's been on the 3rd line all year and just jumped on the second pp. Not sure you can count on any offense consistently from guys on a 3rd line.

"I have had a discussion with Freddy's camp 100 percent,"

That was Don Sweeney on September 30. That was 78 days ago Sweeney announced that and they had already had discussions.

Anyone worried about what Frederic's ask is if they couldn't reach a deal in what is approaching 3 months?
Not really? It’s a bit too early to be worried IMO.

He probably just doesn't want to ruin the market for future players

I'm more worried about his play, tbh. He can "ask" for whatever he wants. I don't see how his level of play warrants a large raise in his next contract.

I don't know. You like to throw out random stats, and he's tenth on the team in PPTOI for the season. Given that 5 players are on the ice at any given time during the PP, that would indicate he's been there more than just jumping up, no? If you take defense out, he's 8th overall, which makes sense given they typically roll 4 forwards and 1 dman on the pp.

Sweeney has no problem signing extensions early in the final UFA season, and I think if there was a mutually agreeable landing spot, they would have found it. I think @EverettMike is right in that we are interested in TFred more than usual because of this. That, and the fact that unlike any number of other bottom 6 (and some top 6) Bruin forwards who have consistently played like ass over the past few seasons, Trent seems to have immunity from benching. If he got healthy scratched any time in past few seasons, I don't recall it.

I feel like I’m one of the few left that still like Freddy but all of a sudden he’s become the whipping boy

I mean NO ONE started the year off well outside of the 4th line but and I don’t think any other forwards are on track to repeat last years performance outside of maybe Marchand?

It’s just weird how he gets hammered around here when there are equally deserving players of criticism
Not even like he makes real money either

I'd like to make that kind of not real money, especially if I only had to show up and do my job correctly 3 times a semester.
But again tho he’s been one of their better forwards the last few weeks. Not like that’s saying a lot but it’s true. People have just latched on and won’t let go.

There are people on this roster making 2x bringing the same level of play and effort. Frederic is paid like 3rd liner and produces like a 3rd liner

I was just going by memory maybe he's been on the 2nd unit all year.

Is being 10th in PP time on your team some kind of big statistical advantage that Im missing?

Hmm, I don't know if I agree with that. I will say that he's been less ass since Sacco took over, and had a couple games where he looked like he might be turning a corner. The past three have not done him any credit.
