Depends on what the parameters are comparing the two.

Fredric has 2 more goals and 1 more points than Kastelic, but he's also got nearly 100 more minutes of TOI. Kastelic has 30 more hits, 7 more blocks and significantly less giveaways. Kastelic also is 54.1% in the dot whereas Frederic is limited at FO because he's not great at them. If I was asked who has more impact on a game just looking at these numbers, I'd say Kastelic. He does more with less time than Frederic does.
Four games into the season Kastelic had 5 pts. If we're looking at who's outplaying who are we thinking back to before game 5? Beginning of the year he was absolutely outproducing Frederic.

But its not either or with these two. Just funny how one is the run away favorite for 7th player and the other is worse than horrible.

People cherry pick some stats with absolutely no context to continue to hate on this guy, what's new.

Lots of vitriol for a guy who is paid like and plays like a 3rd liner when plenty of guys are way underperforming this year
It's not as bad as people blaming Cassidy and now Montgomery for the players underachieving.

Here is a stat, not sure if it's a cherry picked one, but the man has scored goals in 3 games. He has played in 32. That sucks,. Another one? he's a team worst -13 for forwards (I know he had one skate on the bench in at least 6 of them)

He's not good this year, period.

Kastelic has 3’points in his last 20 games

Koepke also has 3 points in his last 22 games.

Honestly think he’s been one of their better forwards the last few weeks

He just had an abysmal start to the season where he was arguably their worst forward

Kastelic, has been a positive all season for the Bruins, and Freddy disappointing no doubt, but if you were open to trading other one, the line for Freddy would much longer, and probably would be more profitable. Freddy has been more offensively more productive the two prior years , than kastelic has been in his career. Not a example to compare the two players, ZERO SENSE, in my book.

Are we really comparing Kastelic to Freddy in any capacity? Why? One is minimum wage and one is looking for a long term deal at a very plus cap number. I mean if Frederic had half the drive and determination of Kastelic he would be a poor man’s Brady Tkachuk instead of a rich man’s Miles Wood.

If Friedman is to be believed, then God bless whatever dumb sucker GM takes Frederic and his 5 playoff points in 3 years off our hands for some sort of half-decent return.

Don't hate the guy, just don't think he offers enough, especially in crunch situations, and the Bruins desperately need some valuable trade bait. If he can be part of a good deal, I'm all for it.

Here's my fear on Frederic. He leaves Boston becomes a UFA and joins his buddy Matty T down in Florida. He goes there and becomes the player many of us have been waiting for him to become.

I feel like I’m one of the few left that still like Freddy but all of a sudden he’s become the whipping boy

I mean NO ONE started the year off well outside of the 4th line but and I don’t think any other forwards are on track to repeat last years performance outside of maybe Marchand?

It’s just weird how he gets hammered around here when there are equally deserving players of criticism

Again it all comes down to expectations. The expectations for Frederic are much higher than Kastelic and rightfully so based on previous years performances

For sure. But looking at the flak he gets in here I think the expectations are higher for Frederic than they are for just about the entire rest of the club.

Kastelic actually puts force into his hits. That alone is a difference.

He has the far more attainable floor to reach with expectations than most Bruins. His floor is based on effort. The ceiling is based on production.

He has neither.

And Brazeau has two goals in the last 19 games playing top 6 minutes, this team is offensively challenged. Unless they can do something, to aquire a someone who can put the puck in the back of the net, then just pray Freddy, finds his game because he is your best chance to find his game.
One would think if Frederic was really this skill player he would be in the top 6 more, no? he looked good with poitras and Geekie IIRC but too bad Matty Ice wasn't good enough to play for this juggernaut

You think so? I think people are expecting him to be a 20/20 guy that bring a physical presence to the game. Right now he's on pace for 15/13 and doesn't seem like that physical presence when he's on the ice. Even in the fight department he's gone with non-fighters this season. Here's Frederic's fight cards for the season....

Adam Larsson - 5 career fights in a 14yr career / Last fight - 2022
David Gustafsson - 0 career fights in a 6yr career / Last fight - NA

I think he gets flak because he's playing below expectations. If he wasn't scoring but was playing that physical grinding game then I think people ease up on him. If he's scoring but not playing a physical game, I think people ease up on him. The problem is he's not really doing either thing right now.

And why did he fight Larsson? What would people have said if he didn’t?

You're saying his expectations are 20/20, grinding physical game and drop the gloves with the fighters in the league. There might be one or two other players in the NHL who are expected do that. Certainly no one else on this club.

I mean he's second on the team in hits, 50% above #3 for forwards and we're still saying he's not engaged enough physicality. He's held to a different standard which certainly doesn't line up with his 2mil third liner status right now.

He was awful to start the season, I'm not arguing that, but saying he hasn't gotten shots in 9 games with no context is hilarious considering when you look around the league at 3rd liners it's a pretty common occurrence. I know that wasn't you but who I was talking about.

If you can say in only 3 games he's scored so he sucks, then surely you agree it's fair for me to say out of his -13 he was - 7 in the first 4 games and -16 in 8 games total.

So just like you saying he sucks because he only scored in 3 games you'd agree he's actually not that bad in +/- because most of it only happened in a handful of games right? Cherry picking no?

Love him or hate him, can we all agree Trent Frederic isn't nearly interesting enough as a player to warrant this much discussion?
Not saying he doesnt deserve criticism, but I truly don't get why we are talking about Freddy's 11 points and -13 when his 5.25 mil a year linemate is -10 with less points.

Something about the expectations for Freddy doesn't make sense, when he's a playing as a 3rd liner, generally producing like a 3rd liner and being paid like a 3rd liner.

Freddy is a cipher - people seem to project whatever they want on him. Some want him to fight Olivier and Xhekaj every game. Even when you show who he has fought prior to this year it’s not enough. Some want him to produce 50 points on the third line with little PP time. Some want him running around without being productive like Kastelic. It’s kind of bizarre.

I’ve defended him the last several years when every line he played on was more effective with him than without him. He played like ass to begin the season. He’s a complementary player who is going to go as the team goes. Hes been better the last couple of weeks, but not up to how he played the last couple of years. Why people are completely giving up on him, other than the couple with irrational hatred of him, is beyond me.

I think a lot of this is because he's a pending free agent, but I also don't think even that warrants this much conversation around a third liner.

This is exactly where I'm at for him this year. He was dogshit to start the year when the entire team was looking terrible. As they have started to play better recently he too has been better and.producing. Despite the start he's not even that far off his paces from the last two years.

I'm pretty indifferent if we keep him right now, but he is getting why too much attention here either way

I find it ironic that Brazeau gets virtually no criticism despite having zero toughness for a big guy and being pretty mid over the past several weeks.

We just haven’t got to him

We hate everyone it’s just not his time yet

Sweeney & Neely suck and they can’t draft or trade or sign FA

Thankfully Bergeron & Chara going to come in and be wicked awesome and get us players we will love and sleep well at night
