Stars were targeting Bergy and he got banged up that game. Frederic or someone needs to step in and be like Shawn Thornton, send a message physically. There is no fear without Chara and Miller on the ice and teams will do what they want. Foligno can do it but he is a vet that knows what it takes but he is near the end of his career, it will age him faster. I expect Frederic to be like a Backes/Foligno type of player - support the play and bang and crash hard. They really need a Clutterbuck/Martin type of guy.

Frederic was not bad in that game but he looks like he is killing a penalty 5 on 5. I hope they are not trying to turn him into Kuraly because it kinda looks like that and he does not have that speed. He is not a big open ice hitter, he has value fighting but if no one wants to go with him then its not helping. They have Kuhlman, Lazar and Nosek all energy checkers but not physical. Frederic has the size but needs to take it to another level if he wants to stay. Lets hope he puts it together and grows on the last game.

Learn to hit like Clutterbuck and there will be plenty of opportunities to drop mitts.

He’s been really good - he just plays hard and focus is on the game not the Trent Frederic Fight Club guy

Love that 4th line after two games

8 hits in only 10mins of play, (which was almost a third of the team total) and a primary assist, with a +1 on a night we lose 6-3.

Good looking 4th line.
best game from him in a looooooooooooooong time. I have taken heat for being so tough on the kid but I stand by what I have seen, his play during those stretches didn`t look anything like it did watching him play last night. He was, first of all, noticeable but also assertive on pucks, separated player from puck on at least two shifts I saw but he read the plays well and got to the spot he needed to be to use that body of his effectively. Impossible to do this 82 games in a season but nice game from the kid

I think having guys like Nosek and Kuhlman instead of the offensive anchors of Kuraly and Wagner are going to be a huge difference for him this season.

Frederic has looked calm - before he was running all around now he’s patrolling an area and making plays that come his way not trying to make a play chasing puck and game

I liked Frederic's game last night. Encouraged to see his skating seems improved, especially his first couple steps. If he can bring that consistently then he'll be a valued contributor. I'd still like to see him get a look in the middle but for now it's good to see his game progressing somewhat.

Yeah, I think people need to remember that his fighting and extracurriculars isn't what got him here– it's his ability to play a tough, strong two-way game down the middle. He wasn't fighting in college and he wasn't going out there looking to rag doll guys in his first year, he was actually looking to make plays and create with his skill, which he absolutely did.

I agree though, I wish he would get a look at center because historically in providence he was always much better at that position. More responsibility and less freedom to go looking for trouble. In the end though, he's a young, physical and skilled player who's just trying to find out what his game is at the next level.

Give him an evaluation on a month-to-month basis and I really think as a viewer you'll have a better handle of his progression as a player.

Definitely the best game in a long time for Frederic, and his line for that matter. I said it a few times in the preseason but I do think his skating and hands have noticeably improved from last year. Last night he actually put those skills to use winning pucks and hitting effectively. His passing and vision are actually quite good and he was reading the play far better than he was in the preseason. Hope we see more of this moving forward.

Byers I believe was pretty quick witted as was Thornton, but for the most part they did their talking with their gloves off
Exactly and they had cache

my reply to Frederic or anyone else would be ‘shut up & focus on staying up in NHL. Let your play do the talking’ chirp after 200 games and make it funny

I much prefer this Frederic over whatever the hell that was at the start of last season.

Playing the game and letting the physical opportunities present themselves, as opposed to forcing opportunities that are a stretch and being out of position/late/etc.

Keep that up, lay the big hit when it makes sense, keep the energy up and things will come together. Looks good so far. early yet.
