I will say our defense did a fairly decent job there of keeping things to the outside. At least from the clips they showed Levi, Murphy, Biega, and Lowe looked fairly solid... which they should considering their age and draft status.

Woods is going to be our next McGinn, the guy who goes from draft pick that everyone hated to a guy that we all love seemingly overnight.

Altshuller looked solid. Two of those goals he could do almost nothing about. Seems a bit slow on the recovery but his positioning is solid and he kept things square more often then not. If you could give him Peters or Murphys athleticism you'd really have something going, as is he's an underrated goalie prospect, though I obviously wish we still had Andersen in the system as well.

We didn't see much possession time for the Canes in the OZ, but given they were outshot 39-25 we just might not have had that many dominant possession cycles in the game.

Every time I see a clip or watch Karlsson skate (like when he was here for the rookie camp), I come away impressed. I know the guy needs to add a bit more size, but he is a good skater, really has a nice skillset and is an unselfish player.

I know it's not likely, but it would be nice if a couple of years down the road we had a Swede line with Lindholm, Rask and Karlsson.

Murphy had one bad turnover, otherwise I though he looked dominant with the puck. Unsurprising.

Some comments from Ranger's fans on their thread:

On the other side noticed Murphy looked really slick.

Murphy was, from the looks of it, the best player on the ice. His skating is sublime.

Not just his skating--his puck movement could also be called sublime. Great band by the way. Considering the camera was pretty much about following the Rangers guys and everyone here is talking about Murphy should tell us all something. In any case he's an example of a smaller d-man who has something special about his game. I liked him a lot but see how he does later on in camp and whether or not he makes the Hurricanes.

If Pitkanen ends up missing a lot of time, Canes are going to likely need a guy like Murphy to provide some offense. I would like to see him get his feet wet in the AHL before jumping to the NHL, but Canes may not have the luxury.

Yep, my thoughts exactly. Thing is though I was prettymuch expecting him to be our #6 to start out with some PP time as a point man (along with Joni, Faulk, and either Sekera or Harrison). Now he may be basically required to jump into that offensive top 4 dman role whether or not he's ready. Absolute best case scenario right now is that Joni gets put on the LTIR and we go out and sign Hainsey or White to act as a stop-loss for us in the top 4. Either is a big downgrade on Joni offensively but the options to replace Joni that aren't inept defensively just won't be there until next offseason when Markov's a UFA, and he's just as injury prone as Joni.

We've played it the right way so far with Murphy, letting him get his defensive game improved in the OHL over the last few years, and giving him a bit of NHL ice time and AHL playoff experience. IDEAL situation is to do with him what we did with McBain and start him in the AHL this season as the #1 there, but we're not going to have that luxury. Hell, we might not even have Joni ever playing again.

A lot of the trouble in that game seemed to come from guys not knowing where to look for passes, not getting to the right spots to stop the cycle, etc. Team system issues, typical of throwing a bunch of players together with no practice or coaching as a group. I'm not too worried about that as far as individual ability is concerned.

Murphy did indeed look like he belonged at the next level. It'll be interesting to see how he looks in training camp, with NHL'ers in the mix.

This game is going to be an interesting one. IIRC Columbus is bringing a younger group but they were able to hang with the Sabres kids yesterday, and Buffalo's group is right up there with Dallas's kids as one of the favorites to take this thing. Dansk is considered to be pretty legit in net too.

Levi vs Rychel is the one on one matchup I want to see highlights of the most, some real potential for fireworks there.

Well, I was having my fairly typical summer moment where I start questioning why I'm not more excited about hockey coming up and if my passion is fading. This thread flipped the switch, though. Even if I couldn't watch it, the simple fact that a game of some sort was being played got the anticipation going again.

I'll be attending again and was wondering which 5 or so prospects you'd like me to write a small report on.

If Lindholm plays, then him for sure. Then for me, the guys that "might" be closer to the NHL. Murphy and Rask.

After that, it's a crapshoot. Maybe Woods and Biega or Karlsson?

I'll second BBA's list, Lindholm's our big gun and is coming off an injury that limited him in rookie camp, and those other 3 along with Tolchinsky are probably our most intriguing prospects after the big guys (Lindholm, Murphy, Rask, McGinn, PDG)

Columbus does have a very impressive team up at TC and only one of their 3 first rounders from 2013 is playing there.

Im interested to hear about which "Ryan" plays better. Ryan Murphy or Ryan Murray.

Just got word from CAR that Elias Lindholm [shoulder] will be scratched against the Blue Jackets for this afternoon's game.

Today's lineup. McGinn travelling for his grandfather's funeral.

Looks like Canes getting outshot early again. Behind 2-1 and being outshot 9-3 only 5 minutes in.

EDIT: make that down 3-1 now.

Lotz in net? weird after Altshuller's performance yesterday unless they just want to give the kid a rest. Could understand the move if it was Olson who's our drafted property. Sucks that there's no Lindholm in the lineup today as well.
