Yogan has a decent chance to play in the NHL whether with the Rangers or not. Good size, good hand and he's progressing as a player. He won't be a big scorer IMO but the kind of guy who will chip in.

Lindberg-Kristo-Fast(h)--all played very well. All have the look of future NHL players. I liked the brief glimpses of Kantor. Leroux is over his head as a player here but he buckled his guy in the fight.

Skapski for a just drafted guy did okay.

On the other side noticed Murphy looked really slick.

Murphy was, from the looks of it, the best player on the ice. His skating is sublime.

I thought Leroux actually looked like he had a simple game down low and didn't have hands of stone. His skating looked at least on par as well.

Not just his skating--his puck movement could also be called sublime. Great band by the way. Considering the camera was pretty much about following the Rangers guys and everyone here is talking about Murphy should tell us all something. In any case he's an example of a smaller d-man who has something special about his game. I liked him a lot but see how he does later on in camp and whether or not he makes the Hurricanes.

With Pitakanen out and McBain gone, he should have a very good shot.

I think Yogan has a chance to be a solid complimentary forward on a line with a couple better players. He has decent tools across the board, but his skating ability coupled with his size makes him a solid option to open up the ice for skilled guys on his line. He has natural chemistry with MSC. They played on a line together at the last TC as well, but Yogan split time with MSC and the Miller-Thomas line.

Watched the highlights again. Kristo is incredibly skilled, but he overhandles the puck. He's like an American Ales Hemsky. Needs to start making higher percentage plays if he's going to stick in the NHL.

MSC is definitely going to need to work on picking up the pace of his decision making. This season is going to be a big adjustment for him, and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see him loaned to the ECHL for a while. So much talent there, but he has to be quicker with the puck.

Yeah, but OTOH, all of a sudden he is running the PP in HFD and puts up like 0.8 PPG or something -- despite being in over his head in most other areas. Marc Savard was a notch baove MSC for sure, but he was like that in the NHL. Couldn't skate or keep up. Was weak physically. Then he popped 4 goals against Toronto in one game and had 40+ pts his full year in the NHL. I am not saying that MSC is Savard II, but he could quite possibly do in the AHL what Savard did in the NHL.

Kristo battles though. He likes to have the puck on his stick because he can make plays.

I'm not trying to imply he isn't skilled. If you search back you'll find posts where I call MSC the most "purely skilled" player in our system at several points. I just think he's going to take some time to adjust. Unfortunately, he and Kristo play the same spot on the PP, so I'd imagine he'll start out seeing 2nd unit minutes, which is likely going to keep his numbers down. If he was able to stay in HFD and put up .5PPG over the course of a season, I'd be pretty pleased with that from him.

We definitely need more creativity in our lineup, and he has it in spades. His skating is good enough for the NHL, he just needs to be put on a better strength training program.

Kristo may start the season in the NHL.

I know, but stickhandling around one guy and taking a shot or making a pass is easier than stickhandling around 3 guys. There's a fine line between 'skilled' and 'too fancy to be effective.'

Very true. I think he will be fine though. The Rangers lack players who want to have the puck on their stick and make things happen.

maybe, but I think Kristos history indicates he's a coachable player. The kind of thing you're talking about is a result of being a step above his competition in college. I think he'll be able to simplify his game for the pro level.

I'm not saying he can't overcome it. Simply making an observation that I think it's something he'll have to work on.

From watching the video, the Rangers forwards were buzzing for most of the game. They look like they have good team speed and decent size up front. Laroux was noticeable a few times and he can throw with both hands which is impressive for a kid his age.

i wonder if one of Laroux or Wilson will get signed? was Wilson even playing?? Rangers need a tough guy for the Wolfpack that can settle things down, not a vet 30+ but someone that is young enough that can improve and might have a future in the NHL...

There's a reason Ryan Murphy isn't looked at as one of the best prospects in the league.

He's a disaster in every other facet. Poor decision making to boot.

Kristo looked good, but I have to agree he may have tried to do too much at times.

Part of it may be that he's 23 and has four years college experience, he's got to be one of the older, more experienced guys in the tourny no?

Also it's hard to make assumptions from that video. The first line appeared to look great. MSC appeared to be invisible once again. Overall though it seemed like a very winnable game, which is a good sign in a tournament that doesn't hold a ton of weight.

Exactly. They looked to at least hold a fair share of the play in the Carolina zone.

I have a hard time believing MSC's game will ever translate to the NHL, seems like he takes his sweet time with everything. He has some good offensive instincts though.
