Honestly, I hope 6 is the floor and we see him in 7 or 8. We don't have any split squad games this year. Maybe give him a day off on one of the back-to-backs, but one of the big question marks is how well he could handle the rigor of an 82 game season. Let's see how he looks when he's tired. I fully expect him to start the year in the AHL, but I want him to get as many minutes of ice time vs NHLers as possible.

I definitely think Perunovich should start the season in The AHL, and play about 25-30 games to get a little used to the pro game. Then he'll be less of a liability in his first NHL games.

Krug had 19 points at even strength through 51 games last season. That's a pace for 30 even strength points. Walman had 2 points in 24 NHL games last year, which is a pace for 6 points (7 if you round up). Krug was tied for 31st in the league in even strength points last season. Walman was tied for 227th. Your narrative that Krug does nothing but the PP isn't even remotely close to reality.

Walman has done absolutely nothing to make Krug expendable. Walman hasn't excelled at anything that Krug is paid to do and has never even hit 30 points in the AHL. Walman might have done enough to stick into an NHL lineup long term. That doesn't mean he has done anything to replace a player who plays a completely different role.

"He is overpaid for what he brings to the table" isn't even remotely the same discussion as "this prospect with zero pro experience and this 25 year old who has looked adequate through 25 games of NHL experience can replace what Krug does on-ice." Your hatred of Krug's contract has fully clouded your ability to judge what a player brings to the table on-ice if you believe that a (indisputably) top 25 NHL offensive D man is made expendable by guys who are genuine question marks to make the opening night roster.

Assuming you believe that he is worth somewhere near $4.5M, then you absolutely should recognize that a player worth that amount isn't on the verge of being replaced by guys who may or may not be 6th or 7th D men at the NHL level.
I know the stats. Just what my eye test shows. What I see on Walman capable if he gets opportunity to play PP. Hopefully Walman gets 2nd PP ice time so he can show what he is capable to do. I view there is skillset which has been unseen and ppl haven't seen yet.

This is just how I see things on him.

Walman has never broke 30 points in the AHL, yet, he's supposed to Magically put up enough points in the NHL to off-put Krug if he's just gifted PP time? He's not some 21 year old anymore. He's 25 years old and will be 26 mid-season. He's not come anywhere close to earn those minutes.

Its unlikely that a player will be better in the NHL than he was in the AHL. But I'll bet it has happened.

In the case of Walman, it hope it happens. He has tools, and we need a guy to come through for us.

Let's not forget too that Walman as a Junior was considered one of the top D in the country before we signed him and was in Hobey Baker talks. Let's see what Perunovich does in the AHL. He looked great (I mean the best in several years) offensively in Traverse City. I would cringe at this point if they put them on the ice together. I would have to see Parayko on Perunovich's right and probably O'Reilly, Sunny D or Barbashev on the ice to cover for his freewheeling.

Is he the second coming of Cliff Ronning?
