poor cranley

he's made some good saves, but he's getting hung out to dry a bit by the defense. galloway in particular having a rough time.

Dallas has chased Cranley after 3 goals on 3 second-period shots. 5-1 Stars after the Blues had cut it to 2-1. The defense has been a circus...nobody defending in front.

3 goals on 3 shots for Stars this period.

Didn't see it clearly, but I believe both Tucker and Perunovich weren't on the ice for all of those 3 goals. Our defensive depth isn't good.

Dallas team is really good BTW.

These games underlying that Perunovich is legit PP specialist, hard to see where he develope, but he has all the tools to become top4 offensive dmen to NHL. His skating looks better, but we will get better look when he plays vs pro's.

Our game plan was when Perunovich was on ice give him puck and he will setup. Total dominance by him. Easily best player.

Rest of our players falls 'meh'. I don't see anything special on Neighbors or Alexandrov's game. Nobody doest hold top6 type of tools. Most of punch of 4th liners or AHL tweeners.

Perunovich will be a circus...lots of entertainment...lots of risk. I hope he can tilt the ice offensively and find a defensive partner who compliments his game because Girard was a huge liability come playoff time. I'm fine with him playing 14-17 minutes a game for the first 3-months of his NHL career. Whether that happens before or after 30-AHL games will be determined shortly.

I would expect to see Perunovich in 5 or 6 of our 8 preseason games so they can have the best possible evaluation of whether to start home in Springfield or St. Louis.

Jake Walman's 2 NHL points does not make Krug expendable and Perunovich has not even played a game in the NHL.
Call me crazy, but what I see from Walman last year impressed me. 13 points on Krug at PP and one was 1 goal on PP and 1 goal in even strength. He had 3rd most ice time at PP from all our players. Imagine Walman played at PK over 1min A/TOI.

I don't understand why ppl defend 6.5mill.$ offensive dmen who clearly didn't fill price tag, isn't top2 dmen or top4 in any level. Good offensive dmen who needs sheltered ice time from tough opponent and play biggest starts at o-zone. Good 3rd pair offensive dmen. ~4.5mill.$ AAV max.

You realize Krug was top 30 (21st) of all defenseman last year in points while transitioning to a new team and a new system with little to no training camp? He scored at a 50 point pace over a 82 game season. Look man, I know, hell, we all know how much you hate Krug, But Walman and Perunovich have done nothing to warrant Krug being expendable.

After watching the last game with Dallas, I’m still of the impression the blues have some 3rd to 4th line bottom six defensive Depth pieces. Perunovich is definitely a wildcard. Whether his play will be as a forward or a power-play specialist, I’m not sure. The offensive talent is there. I have no doubts. I look forward to seeing how it translates against larger, older, and faster players. The only thing I can say negative in his defense of play in that game was his gap closure on the shooter. You can give Jaques Sucksabit space, but not an Oshie. He buries that shot. He is certainly an interesting piece to have on your team.

Krug had 19 points at even strength through 51 games last season. That's a pace for 30 even strength points. Walman had 2 points in 24 NHL games last year, which is a pace for 6 points (7 if you round up). Krug was tied for 31st in the league in even strength points last season. Walman was tied for 227th. Your narrative that Krug does nothing but the PP isn't even remotely close to reality.

Walman has done absolutely nothing to make Krug expendable. Walman hasn't excelled at anything that Krug is paid to do and has never even hit 30 points in the AHL. Walman might have done enough to stick into an NHL lineup long term. That doesn't mean he has done anything to replace a player who plays a completely different role.

"He is overpaid for what he brings to the table" isn't even remotely the same discussion as "this prospect with zero pro experience and this 25 year old who has looked adequate through 25 games of NHL experience can replace what Krug does on-ice." Your hatred of Krug's contract has fully clouded your ability to judge what a player brings to the table on-ice if you believe that a (indisputably) top 25 NHL offensive D man is made expendable by guys who are genuine question marks to make the opening night roster.

Assuming you believe that he is worth somewhere near $4.5M, then you absolutely should recognize that a player worth that amount isn't on the verge of being replaced by guys who may or may not be 6th or 7th D men at the NHL level.

Honestly, I hope 6 is the floor and we see him in 7 or 8. We don't have any split squad games this year. Maybe give him a day off on one of the back-to-backs, but one of the big question marks is how well he could handle the rigor of an 82 game season. Let's see how he looks when he's tired. I fully expect him to start the year in the AHL, but I want him to get as many minutes of ice time vs NHLers as possible.
