I think he’s easily 195. He looked huge in the world championships. Was dummying men. I’d be shocked if he was 185

Speaking of eligibility again--St. Louis names their team today and I know Klim Kostin is still a young guy but he's also got two full seasons in the AHL (or 133 regular season AHL games) under his belt now. They're also bringing 23 year old Mitch Reinke--a defenseman who put up over 40 points in San Antonio last year. The rest of their lineup looks pretty weak even so---so it's not that it's a real huge deal but the eligibility for this tournament has always been really murky and it would be nice to know.

I believe the relevant rule is that an NCAA player may not miss any classes at school in order to attend an NHL program. This is why players who take summer classes skip NHL Development Camp in July. This is on top of the "pay your own way" rule which requires NCAA players to cover their own transportation, hotel, and food for the duration of the event (there is a partial exemption that permits NHL teams to pay the first 48 hours of hotel and food for first-time attendees).

Playing in Traverse City would break several NCAA rules--regardless of who pays or how long they stay:

“You cannot play a game where another team is involved,” ...That includes exhibition games or any sort of meet-up between franchises. The rules that govern this also apply to NHL teams, which is why drafted players who are NCAA-bound (or already there) do not play in the Traverse City tournament hosted by the Detroit Red Wings, for example.

Also a college player can't miss school to attend any event.

Forgot about Keane. That adds to the D.

So realistically the D pairings something like

Tarmo-Fox
Rykov-Keane

or just flip the LHDs. That's actually a very potent top four along with Skinner/Gross who is a veteran.

Not too shabby.

I found a few tidbits from older releases:
A first-round draft pick by the Lightning in 2004, Rogers, 21, has been here before. Three times, actually. After spending last season with the AHL’s Springfield Falcons, this is Rogers’ final stint at Traverse City. Teams are allowed only four players with no more than one year of pro experience.

Per tournament rules, each team may only have a maximum of four players with one year of professional experience each. In order to participate, all skaters must have been born no later than 1983; goalies are exempt from this restriction." As a consequence of this rule, ... will not be eligible to play in this year's tournament (without an exception being made, which is altogether possible in these tournaments).

Remember, teams can only dress up to four players with a full season of NA pro hockey under their belt, so one of Armia, Catenacci, Jacobs, Makarov, and Ristolainen will be scratched per game. If Makarov backs up, I believe they can technically dress five with experience. Last year, those players included: JGL, Girgensons, Knapp, Larsson, Lieuwen, Roy, and Sundher.

From 2008:
Per tournament rules, each team may have a maximum of four players with one year of professional experience. In order to participate, all skaters must have been born no later than 1984; goalies are exempt from this rule

When the Red Wings announced their preliminary 2011 NHL prospects tournament roster, Brent Raedeke was no where to be found. The 20 year-old forward is eligible for the tournament having played in only one professional season last year with the Grand Rapids of the AHL. The tournament roster rules restrict participating teams to just four players with a maximum of one year of professional hockey. Detroit has five players who fit into this category – Raedeke, Brendan Smith, Willie Coetzee, Brian Lashoff, and Joakim Andersson.
With five centers already on the roster (Andersson, Louis-Marc Aubry, Landon Ferraro, Brooks Macek, and Alan Quine), Detroit opted to carry eight defensemen for the tournament and leave Raedeke off.

I would imagine that exceptions are granted to the 4 vet rule in case a team don't have 4 vets with one pro season, then maybe they can bring 3 vets with one pro season and a 4th with 2 seasons. Its also not clear what constitutes a pro season.

Like I said above, I remember how someone from our organization once talked about how we were trying to get exceptions because they didn't think we would have a good enough team one year. This could have been many years ago, possibly even back in the Blueshirt Bulletin paper days that usually had plenty of great stuff on this.

FWIW St. Louis is bringing Kostin with 2 years of AHL (but a 2017 draft pick) and 4 guys with one year Reinke (with 45 points last year) was their second leading scorer, Austin Poganski, Nolan Stevens and Tanner Kaspick all spent last season in San Antonio. All that said they look to be a pretty weak team. After Reinke their defense only has one draft pick Tyler Tuckers and 5 invites mostly from the CHL. Nikita Alexaandrov--last guy taken in this year's 2nd round and Colton Ellis final pick in this year's third round is one of their goalies. Without those San Antonio guys they wouldn't be very competitive.

Still Kostin is the first time I can remember a guy with 2 full professional (in North America) seasons playing in the tournament.

One reason to motivate an exception for Kostin could be that he played in the AHL as an 18 y/o. Hence he isn’t older than most kids that are eligible.

And like you say, I am sure they pay a little extra attention to how strong a team looks to be, with an even playing field being somewhat of a target.

I think there would be more of an argument against his inclusion if he'd played a bunch of games with the Blues (he hasn't played any) or if the Blues were bringing a deep lineup which they're not. Without him or Reinke it's conceivable the Blues would be getting blown out in some of the games they play and I'd prefer the tournament to be competitive. Whether the Rangers win or not they will probably bring the best team. The main issue I can see for them is in the area of forward depth . As of now the Blackhawks look to be the best other team--Dallas and Detroit the two teams left to announce their rosters. The Hawks have Dach + WJC veterans Entwistle, Soderlund and Kurashev at forward and a really good looking defense with two former 1st rounders in Boqvist and Beaudin and a 2nd rounder in Krys and Gilbert another D who played an NHL game last year. So they should have a solid D.

Maybe, but 185 at his height is really slight.

I don't know, I'm 6'1", 185 and I'm definitely in way worse shape than Kaks looked in his summer interviews, in terms of lean build at least. Of course he probably has a good amount of muscle though, but 6'2, 185-190 sounds about right for him.

I feel like there are maybe a few hundred people that would want to watch TCT. We go through it every year. Is the expense worth whatever goodwill you would engender to those couple hundred people? Again, keeping in mind the arena is not really equipped to broadcast this thing in any kind of enjoyable way.

NYR management: we are rebuilding. These prospects are amazing. You should see them!

NYR fans: can't wait to see more content!

MSG Networks: Pull my finger. Here's a game from 1994

why couldn't MSG Networks show these games as a tape delay (prime time or later that night) without the announcers? at least give the fans something since some of these players will be Rangers in the 19-20 season? does it have to do with broadcasting rights?

Is this really like previous years though? Kakko, Kravtsov Rykov, Fox, Shestyorkin. How is that even remotely close to Gropp, Ronning, Gettinger, Bourque, Yogan, Kristo etc?

All we hear is how we are in a rebuild. MSG has no content. At all. Every other team has content about their prospects. We have a 30 second video of Kakko in a taxi.

Either tell us to be excited for the prospects and show us something, or shut up about it and have us rely on peewee-caliber broadcasts

This is the first time (probably ever) I agree with Larry.
