i saw the video of the clapper but i couldnt care less about it as slap shots are becoming irrelevant in todays game with stick whip. his wrister and snap shot were complete muffins that routinely hit goalies in the chest. that is what i want to see improve, not a clapper that is only relevant for all star weekend...

The most relevant slap shots are one-timers. Static wind-ups are super rare now, agreed.

Goalies are just getting so efficient at stopping pucks cleanly. We're in a golden era for goalies.

every single one of these clips if you watch and follow panarin he is staying outside the dots. vinny and vk are cutting and swarming through the slot depending which side the puck shifts to, but panarin is glued to the exterior. get ready for more of the same garbage that we saw from him in the playoffs if this is what he is doing at training camp with his teammates and no significant risk of contact. 11.6m powerplay specialist coming in short order...
If you watch Panarin in his MVP candidate season, you would see he was a perimeter player even then. Playing in the perimeter isn't a bad thing if you do it effectively. He didn't in the last playoffs, but I sense he was nursing an injury. But this notion that Panarin needs to get into the dirty areas to be effective is total BS. He never has been a dirty areas player and he doesn't need to be. Good see his line mates on the other hand are doing that. That means they will compliment his game well by creating chaos and trying to get open.

also on a side note, all the player headshots that are being posted highlight one thing to me: that the rangers jersey and coloring is absolutely beautiful still to this day. the design, the shades of the colors, all of it even with its simplicity is still sexy and just looks good on virtually everyone.
best sweater in the gam AINEC/. Both home and away are gorgeous. Funny that the NY Giants who have the same color scheme always look like trash. The Buffalo Bills have figured it out.

How is he upfront? He has no consistency.

Laf, one of the team's top 5v5 scorers earned the opportunity to start in the top 6 and on PP1. Gets denied.

Blais was injured all season, is 26 and has less career goals than Laf scored last year. He gets thrown on line 1.

Kakko, learned and turned himself into one of the league's best defensive wingers. Opening on line 2 and gets he denied.

Kravtsov ditched the team and left the country because he didn't want to earn a spot and play in Hartford for a short amount of time. He's rewarded with top 6 placement instantly.

Where is the accountability, merit, consistency?

I mentioned this in the other thread, the team ran out of gas in the playoffs, why aren't they focusing on conditioning right now instead of scrimmages?
There is no conditioning they're going to do during training camp that will sustain into the post season round 3/cup final. There is nothing these 2 weeks will do to make sure they don't run out of gas in June.

dont take my comment about attacking the house and turn it into me saying he has to live in the dirty areas. I NEVER said that, never. every player needs to show a willingness to attack the net though. it doesnt mean he has to bulldog to the net and stand on the crease, but when teams are literally standing off you and giving you the lane to the net bc they know you are going to force passes it makes you ineffective and turns into what we watched last year. all i am saying is he needs to still be willing to attack at times and use his elite shot to open his lanes for his playmaking. this has NOTHING to do with linemates, enough with the excuses.

his 5v5 production has gotten worse each year here. his cf% at even strength is under 50% the past two years, that is embarrassing for a guy that currently has the second highest cap hit in the league.

also the playoff injury narrative needs to stop. everyone here said he "must be hurt" bc of how he was playing and he himself said he was not hurt and just played poorly. the playoffs only highlighted what we saw from him all year with his unwillingness to attack. in the reg season you can still carve up teams in certain situations playing the perimeter only BS game, in the playoffs when defense is running elite and teams are dialed in that garbage doesn't work, hence 7 even strength points in 20 playoff games and a 47.1 cf% as well. again, embarrassing for the second highest cap hit in the league...

Torts was known for his conditioning in training camp. Have we ever seen a team look so tired as the 2012 team in the playoffs?

they ran out of gas in the playoffs in large part to the fact they were chasing the play most of the time 5v5 except for some short spurts here and there, and that they had to go 7 games to win each of the first two rounds. you are absolutely correct that right now does nothing to help in june, but all last year i commented that i didnt think the team as a whole looked to be in peak conditioning. obviously these guys are in great shape, but for the professional athletes of today there is another level. even in reg season 3v3 ot the team would look gassed at the end which was concerning. a lot of this goes back to line deployment and player usage throughout games and is even another reason why turk needs to start trusting the 3rd line to take more time on ice. this is a playoff team, use the reg season to coach these kids up more so they can be trusted more and contribute more in the post season so you dont burn out your top guys. the kids earned it last year and didnt get enough ice time in the post season. they should be getting more this season to be even more prepared this time around in the playoffs.

blocking shots and chasing the other team around while they keep possession the whole time will wear down anyone. this is a large part of why torts ended up being dismissed i imagine among other reasons.

making the color hues really sing is a huge part of it. the wrong shade of blue would wreck the look, but the choices just make the colors pop. nyr sweaters are just beautiful and I am also partial the the red, white, and blue in general.... 'meric!

I always liked the Giants 90s jerseys. They had the stripes on the sleeves and I felt like that completed the look more.

Was expecting this. I believe the Rangers must have some sort of plan for getting Kakko, Laffy and Chytil more TOI and responsibility. I don't think any are going to be thrilled with 12 min a night. And I don't think it's ideal for their development this season.

That said, I have a feeling VK and Panarin are going to have strong chemistry. hopefully they'll be able to win board battles in tougher games. Otherwise, I think that line becomes the 3rd line against bigger teams and the kid line likely need to become the defacto top 6. The kid line is built with three big kids who should do well with the physical play.

I really have no issue with the lines. I don’t think Blais will stick in that spot because I don’t think he’s the fit for Zib and Kreider but you never know. He could cause chaos and open space and he has demonstrated some hands in the past. Regardless, Kravtsov with Panarin makes some sense to try and get him comfortable with a countryman and the kid line was good together so it’s not a travesty to keep them together. Roll the three lines with equal-ish ES time and it’s not a big deal. I also could see Blais and Krav flip flopping and Laf and Blais flip flopping depending on early results or game situation.

Also, if Laf has one more year on the third line and ends up with an affordable bridge contract, it’s kind of a win. If he knocked off 70 points this year we’d be looking at Stutzle contract that we can’t afford yet. And it’s literally day 2 of camp. We haven’t even played a preseason game, let alone a meaningful one. The overreaction in here is … well, I wanted to say baffling, but honestly not really unexpected.

Sometimes I think we got to get beyond this idea of the deserving and the not deserving on things. All that is subjective anyway. As far as hockey line construction some players are just going to have more chemistry with this player or that just because.….but even so I’d rather not have my three most productive forwards on the same line because I prefer to diversify our attack and in the Rangers case I think both Mika and Artemi are good enough offensive players who can drive a line on their own. To me you can pretty much say we have two first lines because they’re both productive enough to be categorized as such. If the kids stay together and ramp up scoring consistency a bit this year and we have three lines that are a threat all the time that’s going to be something because that is so hard for other teams to defend and with a goalie like Igor sitting behind all that we will definitely be one of the top 3/4 teams in the league.

Does camp continue Saturday & Sunday? Or do they just break until preseason Monday?

Are they all going to be glued to his neck?

Yes, I would strongly prefer Laf to be our 1st line winger. But there is something to be said for, if you have two strong offensive players on that line, having a physical winger who will play the boards. So, I'm not ready to condemn the idea of Blais there. It's an interesting idea and I'm more than willing to see how it plays out. I think Laf will end up there anyway, as he should. But, it's kind of a classic line: strong offensive center, strong offensive winger, physical winger. We'll see.

Kakko on the PK, sweet.

They did this with Buch and his game took off.
Really think it happens because of the extra ice time. You're in the game more. Engaged in battles and making plays. When you don't get PP or PK time as a forward, you will be limited to somewhere between 10-12 minutes per game. Also, if a coach trusts you on the PK, he also trusts you at the end of games. All of that builds confidence.

I'd argue that I want Lafreniere and Kakko to both be part of the PK. Imagine Lafreniere or Kakko with Trocheck killing penalties. On top of the fact they can make the plays in their own zone, they're liable to go the other way and create chances. Carpenter can fill in if needed, but rolling something like:

Zibanejad-Kreider, Trocheck-Kakko, Goodrow-Lafreniere, you're talking about a dangerous unit. Then you could roll something like Panarin-Chytil-Kravtsov, which could be a great line to go out there and take on a team's 3rd/4th line forwards after a PK.

Can NYR sign Alfano?
my understanding
(recall Tolchinski)
Yes guys like him,
undrafted but still draft eligible, are signed to ATOs when attending dev/ rookie/ training camp, and that offers ATO team a preseason 'window' to sign to ELC.
Will they? I'd like them to, cant be more if a waste than signing a overager like Jake Elmer was.
But there is no NYR precedence to do so.
The Tolchinsky offseason, he attended dev camp w both NYR, Canes; had agreed to go to Traverse City w NYR, but ~midAugust Canes signed him to ELC
Yes, they could. He still has two years of junior slide eligibility and there is contract space available. It would be a roll of the dice. Alfano was just traded from Peterborough to Erie. He also was in the Maple Leafs rookie camp this summer.

Laf on PP1

I'd imagine Sammy Blais will be out there killing penalties. I could see Kreider getting removed.
