That’s how I’d roll them out. Bouchard and Bear are pretty interchangeable at this point and it’s close between the two imo.

I wonder if Strome could be trade bait given Khaira and Mcleods play?
I don’t think he’d be trade bait. I imagine the oilers would rather not create a hole at 3C. But if some other team was asking for him in a deal for let’s say.... a defensively questionable offensive RHD maybe the oilers would have to listen.

I genuinely don’t understand your logic. Why would you expose a guy to waivers if you need him to be your extra dman once they magically get rid of jerabek? I suppose if you think garrison would be the #7 I guess?

More likely imo, is that they gave jerabek a million dollar contract because they think he’s an NHL player and aren’t going to turf him after a few preseason games no matter how bad he’s been.
It's not because they think Jerabek is an NHL player, because he's shown he's not, an others have shown themselves to be more ready.

So with Jerabek, there comes to a point, where the team can have the conversation with him about the organization not seeing him as part it going forward and for him to pursue opportunities in Europe. Termination waivers. Not super complicated. If he doesn't, he's just going to be in the AHL.

So, further, looking at the defense, it looks like

Klefbom - Larsson
Nurse - Benning/Bouchard
Russell - Benning/Bouchard/Bear
Bear

So, if you like Gravel, you worry someone would grab him at the end of camp, you send him down now, see how Bear/Bouchard do if you're going to have them on the NHL roster, then you can always bring Gravel back up to be the 6/7 defenseman later.

It's pretty straight forward.

There is no way this happens I think. If McLeod was to make the team I think they would want to see if he can handle the first 9 games before even thinking of moving on from Strome.

Why the Faulk would a team do that?

Where there you have it. Yamo with Drai and Lucic. I know some don't like it, but it was bound to happen with Reider playing crappy and Yamo scoring goals. Also Drai + Lucic not playing all that well requires something needing to happen their to light a spark. Like it or lump it, Lucic makes too much for them to give up on the dream of him still being a serviceable top-6 player.

I doubt it. The team seems really happy with Strome's play and improvements last year. I think he's actually a pretty good fit for 3rd line center. We are already going to be very young/inexperienced on the wings, so I doubt that Todd wants to be inexperienced down the middle as well. Especially with the value he has historically placed on C play.

They're gonna keep ramming that square peg into that round hole until it fits, dammit!

It would appear as such. I think Lucic will have a bit of a bounce back year this year, but I don't think he's good enough for a top-6 role though either. It's a tough spot, with him sucking up $6 million in cap space. Too early to buy him out, and too expensive for trading him away. After this year, with 4 years left on the contract, and hopefully Yamo/Pulj improving, maybe we'd be willing to sweeten a deal enough to off-load him. We'd likely have to include a pretty decent prospect or 2nd rounder to dump him though, even after this year.

We basically just need to hope against common-sense that he will find a different gear, or at least become useful on the PP again (which is the more likely scenario, as his EV play requires speed, which he doesn't have).

But even without Mcleod is it so bad having Khaira center the 3rd line?

It's a dangerous game to play. It's not like they have an abundance of bottom pairings that can hold their own at the moment. If Bouchard goes back and Bear doesn't cut it, you're in trouble again.
I don't trust Jarabek at all...

If they are going to waive a player (that they actually are hoping to keep) then now is the perfect time to do it. Every team is trimming their roster so it is much more difficult o claim a player at this time.

It's still pretty good, but I'd be worried of Khaira's lack of experience in playing that position in the NHL. How many games has he played as center? 20 maybe? Not sure the return for Strome would make it worth it. Doubt he could fetch Faulk, for example.

Looks fine until a centre gets hurt and Caggiula is 3C

Correct me if I'm wrong, but for the Euro trip, we now just have to cut 2 forwards and a dman?

Garrison on the back end still seems like the choice for me.

McLeod should go down. He has been very impressive with his speed and passing in this camp. I don't see him as a major scoring threat yet. I would love for him to work on his offensive confidence this year in Junior (and hopefully get traded to the Ice Dogs).

The final decision should be to trade one of Kassian or Cagguila if there are willing takers.

What does Strome+Benning get us? Could it land us Severson by chance?

When Khaira played centre last year I didn't think he was all that great (could have been due to linemates). The real question is could Strome even fetch a return that would make it worth while to trade him?

Well for 9 games or more we could run this depending on how Mcleod plays:

RNH-Mcdavid-Rattie
Lucic-Draisaitl-Yamamoto
Khaira-Mcleod-Puljujarvi
Rieder-Brodziak-Kassian
Caggiula, Aberg?
