They'd have to wait until they send Bouchard down to sign a 14th forward or send Puljujarvi down if they do.

Puljujarvi and Koskinen being the only waiver exempt players on the roster is going to make it pretty tough, I'd think.
correct me if I'm wrong but I was sure that we were allowed 25 players while in Europe

Rushing Bouchard might be okay if he's sheltered. Schultz's problem here was that we were playing him 20-25 minutes a night (many nights exceeding 30 minutes too btw). On our team, Bouchard would get sheltered bottom pairing minutes and lots of PP time.

edit: btw I'm not in favor of pushing Bouchard in the NHL right away. Just saying that it could work

The upcoming expansion draft is another factor to keep him in Jr for 1 more season. He’ll be playing on a stacked team which should reduce his minutes. He can also work on things he needs to be a better pro.

Jones is older, and already shown a better overall game the last 2 weeks. His mobility and skating is an asset. My guess is that continues in camp

Yeah I think there is a good chance Jones shows himself more NHL ready, but Bouchard is the shiny new toy. I would be shocked to see the Oilers play Jones over Bouchard to start the season.

Depends if talbot plays like a sack of hammers or not.

We're about to find out, he doesn’t have the greatest history starting the season but I think he'll be pretty focused this year so we'll see.

Hes not going to have the rope he did last year, if he stumbles he will be watching

This is pretty huge, people can say what they want about Koskinen but he's no Brossoit and has the potential to steal the job. Between that and a contract year, Talbot has a lot to motivate himself with.

Havent heard a single positive report on Yamamoto so far. He is being outshone by players below him on the depth chart.
Its early but thats not a good sign.

Well, Jones will be in the AHL and can be recalled at any time. Once Bouchard is sent down he's on the farm unless there's an emergency recall or the Knights season ends. For this reason they have to see what they have in Bouchard first.

I wonder if he focused too much on getting bigger and as a result lost speed? It is indeed early, but unless he picks it up soon he might be a fairly early cut.

It is early, but I don't think we've hit paydirt with Yam. Hopefully he develops into an NHL player one day, but he's not there yet

Interesting point about his weight....I havent seen the results from the medical. Dont they release that during camp? I am curious to know what he came in at.

He really does need to pick it up....being an early cut would be big blow for him.

Smaller players usually take longer to develop IMO. I was hoping that he'd be ready fairly quickly but if not, it's more crucial for a guy like Puljujarvi to take that next step.

IIRC he mentioned that he was working on getting bigger and stronger this past offseason.

The kids been overhyped on here all year. Most people have him above JP as a prospect. He’s a tiny kid. He should take years to develop.

I like Yamamoto (he has potential) but I never understood putting him above Puljujarvi on the depth chart.
Made no sense at all to me.
If I could only keep one and was forced to make a decision between the 2 players the choice is obvious IMO.
Yamamoto needs to show he can play with men and the AHL is the obvious place to do that. If he shows well down there for an extended period of time then by all means bring him up.
I dont expect to see him in an Oiler jersey any earlier than the middle of next season to be honest.

Career arcs matter. Yamamoto's is good, Puljujarvi's is verging on suspect.

There's no question whatsoever who is the higher pedigree, more physically ready NHL prospect is between these two and it's Puljujarvi. But it's very easy for me to see Yamamoto siezing the opportunity and Puljujarvi continuing to stagnate based on their last 12 months.
