We were right there
Was at the game tonight. Zegras is worth the price of admission but my god does that kid suck off screen lol, there were more than a few occasions he was just doing whatever the f*** he wanted like 100 ft away from the play. LOTS to learn that will get excused for flash and points. It's like if he's involved and CAN get the puck it's 100% effort and heart--if he's just support, he'll float away and pray for a turnover/breakaway. Shades of Pavel Bure. Maybe it's smart, I dunno, but it's a completely different story than the 200 ft go all times narrative. But he's an awesome talent, zero doubt, and so so fun to watch especially with the attitude.
100% worried about the vets. I've stuck up for them a lot but Brown, Kopitar, Doughty appear to have lost a step entirely. Brain/IQ or not, it's a night and day difference when the kids are out there. Zero passion, chase, drive. Skill is great, experience is great, but no heart = no results. I give them 15 games...and if they aren't 'warmed up' and this is the new normal, I'd frankly rather have Lemieux-Lizotte-Kupari out there than Brown-Kopitar-X. Completely soulless, disgusting play tonight.
Kempe looked like an Alpha male for one game in the preaseason, looked prepared..then disappeared. Where'd that guy go?
Watching Danault get punked by Zegras....great for Zegras, but seriously, PD, what did you get paid for? It wasn't offense. Losing a faceoff and a check in 2.5 seconds...f***ing christ. Embarassing.
Vilardi is the man and will get 60 pts this season.
Tkachev is the most talented player on the team and is almost as transformative as KK was for the Wild. Unfortunately he's two years two late for the rest of the vets and a year too early for the youth.
Mikey Anderson gets better every night. He's basically baby Slavin right now.
Lias Andersson getting hurt hurt my heart. Somehow twisting that to be useful? f*** that. Guy created the turnover that led to the goal out of thin air. He's a completely unique player and this team NEEDS him.
Roy solid as always, and Roy-Bjornfot on paper is a great pairing...they just need to find an extra 50 inches, 50 lbs. Get to work!
Edler looked f***ing huge tonight and made a lot of good, underrated plays.
Kaliyev missing that Vilardi one timer to win the game hurt a lot more live than it did on screen. That was a moment where AK made the entire rink go bullet time...only to whiff. So close!
Honestly I've stuck up for Drew a lot but he looks done. He can kiss his Canada dreams goodbye, guy looks like he hasn't skated all summer. That contract and Anze's are gonna hurt by the end of this year. Not in any actual roster implications way, but they'll be indefensible unless those guys are holding back for the preseason--otherwise it's just bubble hockey going thru the motions. Ditto for Brownie. Bless them all for what they did for this franchise, but each one of them looks to be reading old scripts and hoping they'll hold true.
In short: yep.
It's the last one, though. This is basically the team walking into the regular season.

Of course, suck it Todd and open your eyes Blake, the team needs to be turned over to the kids.

People so heated over a preseason game lol
