If Byfield was set to make the team that would have made a 4th line of….

Moore-Byfield-Wagner

Eventually AA is coming back so what would have happened to Wagner, Lemeiux, Lizotte and Grundstrom?

Something has to give here.

The Byfield injury opens up a spot and likely a 4th line now of Moore-Lizotte-Wagner. Where does that leave Lemieux? Grundstrom? AA?

I have a feeling Tkachev still stands a chance to get moved to Ontario or scratched so they can AA and Lemieux in.

This would piss me off and I've said a few times if they send down a clearly better player just to avoid waiver games then everythign they said this summer is f***ing lip service.

There is no way in hell they could justify a Tkachev demotion at this point. We could lose FOUR players on waivers and it would just be Blake's 'fault' for creating that competition but trying to save those waiver players just because would be 1. unlike Blake who has typically not subscribed to sunk cost fallacy 2. against the whole summer vision 3. just a pathetic attachment to asset management for the sake of asset management instead of icing the best team.

Like sure all things being equal send down the waiver exempt player temporarily but if guys haven't distinguished themselves at this stage, on a basement team--so long.

I hear the insiders talk about asset protection but I’m not sure where the risk is with waiving Lizotte, Wagner and Grundström. No one is likely to trade for them and at most they are worth a late round draft pick. If anything losing a couple of contracts would be helpful. They have all been passed in the depth chart several times and the only one that may have some untapped upside is Grundström, which is why he’s the last of the three I’d waive. Given their low value I don’t see why we’d protect them to keep an NHL ready JAD in Ontario. Development of him in that 4C is worth far more than any late pick we may get for Wagner. Lemieux will be on the roster as he is pretty much the only gritty player. I’d waive AA as well if it comes to it, if it’s the best thing for the development of a player who will be here more long term.

This. Management isn't sacrificing wins and an improved team on the ice so they can not lose 3-5 guys who combined are worth likely a 3rd round pick. And that doesn't even count the extreme likelihood most of them would clear waivers anyway because if they're to crappy to make our team they're also likely to crappy to make most other teams as well.

Well, the silver lining is my boy BYFIELD is gonna be on the roster this year when he's back so that takes the uncertainty. He's young too. He's gonna heal quicker. LET'S GO.

Byfield was the best player on the team before he went down. So I'm willing to wait until December or whatever to see him come reassurect the lifeless corpse of the LA kings back up the standings. As Kopitar continues to be a big soft little bitch, our savior will come. Let's go.

(this isn't a joke) byfield really impressed me.

If we want the Kings to win this year, the pacific is so garbage that we won't really need Byfield so it's okay. I think the boys can hold the fort down and make a push for a spot once he arrives.

So, you are saying that you no longer feel that Stutzle is the better pick? ;-)

I would add QB, Danault and RV to last nights roster. Beef it up with trades\UFAs and go from there. Kinda done watching the dinosaur squad.

I am not that hard on Wagner because he hustles and creates his own chances. No finish or vision but he tries. Grundstrom is useless. Unless he starts playing physical, he just floats out there.
Grundstrom played well yesterday, especially along the wall.

I’d move Grundstom to a team like Seattle and Lizotte to someone who really has no center depth and call it good.

Arvidsson - Kopitar - Kaliyev
Kempe - Danault - Iafallo
Andersson - Vilardi - Tkachev
Moore - Turcotte - Brown
Wagner, Lemieux

Kaliyev, Turcotte and Tkachev aren’t going to play every game. When AA is healthy send the least productive of those down to Ontario to get productive again.

I definitely want to see this team win. I also want them to ice the best team for the whole season.

It would be interesting to figure out a model/projection of keeping Byfield on the NHL squad, wins you how many games vs. keeping Wagner (as an example) and sending Byfield to the AHL for call ups only, loses you how many games? I personally don't care what seed we make the playoffs, just that we make them and are firing on all cylinders come late season.

In making the call on him though, does Byfield playing major minutes become an even bigger monster in the AHL? If the answer is yes, then we should definitely have him start the season there.

I think Blake has done enough this offseason to not call it "lip service" regardless but if we lose a few guys we deem as reliable as Waiver fodder, when the injuries kick in, does it actually make us weaker to not have that depth around?

I guess not that any of this matters now though since he will be on IR and then designated to the AHL once healed.

I realize it was preseason and stats like that may not count, but wasn't that Turcotte's first goal as a King?

I don't think we traded a top 3 d man for another Dwight King though. I hope he turns his game around. He showed some flashes last year then disappears. I would try him again with Moore and JAD. He needs to develop an identity\role on this team. Same for Kupari actually.

We traded him for the pick that netted Björnfot which will become sufficient value in of itself plus, Grundström and Durzi. I like Grundy and think he will get there but he has to start to show more on a consistent basis, especially physically. The team needs more grit and he’s capable of doing that but he has to do it every night. If he does that he will play.

So did every other team and he fell to 33rd. Even we passed him over twice. Most scouting publications had him as a late 1st to mid-2nd. What exactly do you expect a team to do?

I expect to a team to ignore average Joe Scout, lists, publications. Do your own research, and use your own brain. He was couched and trained by well known people here in NJ. His value was known to me at age 12. I would take him top 10. He will probably be better than J. Hughes. Should have just traded down, but everyone is so afraid to make moves.

I’m imagining you sitting alone at a bar in New Jersey, shouting this to nobody.
