Everyone else has ready been sent to Ontario. If they thought anyone else besides Byfield was an option right now, they'd still be on the Kings going for a spot. I doubt they're bringing a young guy back up simply to have a young guy on the team.

Yeah I mean we'd probably all like to see Turcotte but in reality, it'll just be Lizotte.

Man, a lot of gloom and doom around here....and it's only preseason, lol. Yah, hoping Byfield isn't hurt for long...but we got other guys that are close for the big show that I'm excited to see...Kupari and Turcotte. And I don't know what game you guys were watching last night, but I saw a Kings team that controlled most of the play, had some pretty sweet scoring chances that resulted in many clanks off the post. I'm still excited, team looks good!

Last night would have been prime time for Dustin to show how he “has still got it”, because god knows that nobody else on this roster has a set of stones outside of quickie.

I agree with most of this. Before last nite I was preferring Byfield started in the A and got huge mins. But he was so good last nite it built me up! Only to crush me, typical kings…

Also agree on the game, Kings dominated until the injury, then just gave up. I can see in a preseason, it kinda kills the mojo, cause now you are avoiding injury too.

Same reason there weren’t many “hits”, I know viewers want players to go all out all the time. But let’s be honest, it’s preseason, these guys aren’t sacrificing their body for something completely meaningless. It’s almost a gentleman’s agreement not to throw hard hits in the preseason. Unless you are a linesmen…

Haha, kinda rich but you must've taken the pizza and wing advice and added a cold beer cherry on top, which is good.

For myself, until the vets can recognize the talent of players that are due to come up through the system in the coming years and find a way to give a shit about them, I'm right back at where we ended last season.

so many opportunities after byfield's injury to crush coyotes legally and everyone would rather be a passenger

it's like, they played a good game otherwise, had scoring chances, there were preseason mistakes, so be it.. but that mental collapse and failure to emotionally respond to your best player being seriously injured is such a huge disappointment to me that it overrides everything else

There are some guys out there actively fighting for a roster spot and potentially their NHL careers. Unfortunately the guys that don't give a rats ass seemed to be guaranteed a spot to do the same thing they've been doing for the past 5 years, losing with a smile on their face as guys go down. This wouldn't be so bad if we had seen glimpses of life from the new guys coming in but the fear is that that attitude has already permeated.

This will make for meaningless hockey, very quickly if this transitions to the regular season. I just don't see how it changes at this stage

What guys last nite, besides maybe Wagner (and Byfield) aren’t already assured a spot on this roster.

And if this level of intensity goes all season, I’ll be right there with you. But it’s preseason…it just is what it is.

Exactly, for those that say its meaningless, I would point to the Florida vs TB stat sheet last night where the game was treated as a playoff game with lots of piss and vinegar. Guys are battling for spots and to stand out. We should have had a little push back from those bubble guys trying to make a mark.

Hopefully Byfield's injury isn't too bad. It didn't look terrible all things considered but we won't know until there's an X-ray done. It's a shame because he has been building up to this point. Every game he has looked good. He has been getting better and better.

It was obvious that after QB was injured. The wind basically came out of the sails for the team. Especially since it's a preseason game. So I'm not terribly concerned about the ending score line. I thought systematically that the team looked good overall.

On a positive note Gabe has been ratcheting his game up too. We definitely needed that to happen. It also helps that he has talented linemates to complement his game. Don't break up that line, TMc...

And for those that are curious, Disney+ with Nordvpn allowed me to watch the game last night without issue on my phone and on my laptop. I had to do a few things to remove location information that ESPN had saved on my phone and laptop. Clear cookies Etc. But all in all it works.

got really bummed when i saw him go down, but looking at the replays, it's not that bad...probably overextended ankle/calf, it's probably swollen today...that's what I have gathered from my non-medical background ...out a few weeks...which means he won't make the team out of camp and will start in Ontario when he's ready to get going again, I think what Blake wanted, just getting the result was painful way of getting there.

I'm with you on this. A lot of good takeaways from last night:

1. Danault is great - you can see his impact as a leader, responsible defensively and a great passer!
2. Arvidsson comes as advertised - he hustles and had some really good opportunities last night. You know he's going to be burying some of those.
3. Vilardi - Wow.. really impressed with what i've seen so far. You can tell that this is one of those guys who will just keep ratcheting up his game every year. I think you could tell that last year that he needs more time to condition and mentally prepare for the rigors of an entire system.
4. Byfield - Even though he was injured, I think a lot of us got a glimpse of the impact he will have on this team in the future. A large, dynamic player..quick and great hands.
5. Tkachev - Didn't notice him quite as much, but he still had some really good impacts on the game and he is smart, smart, smart with the puck. Love him on the power play.

All in all - I think we will have a great season. Too many leaders and impact players on this team not to make a playoff push. I'm really going to be interested in seeing how this goalie situation unfolds. Quick wasn't terrible last night, but he had a couple mini-blunders.

Nonsense.

Excusing an utter lack of fortitude that has been the single defining trait of this team for years now as "preseason" is just bullshit. There are no leaders here. There is no push back when confronted, just a ten minute slide every single time where multiple goals are allowed in. It happened glaringly last year and the exact same issue presented itself again last night.

Preseason isn't gauged by numbers, it's gauged by progress. Certain young players have obviously progressed, Vilardi and Andersson are skating much better. Bjornfot and Byfield were definitely more assertive. But that won't matter one bit unless the team plays as a unit and not as a collection of individuals. You accomplish that via accountability and a collective positive spirit - and when presented with an opportunity to show that this has been acknowledged and worked on their big shortcoming, they caved right back in on themselves. Zero progress, same old same old lack of leadership and accountability.

You can wait until January to recognize it if you want, but it is already there to be seen.

Whose team is this? Who can be counted on? Who will take charge to change the tide?

No playoffs here until those questions are answered, and they only got louder last night.

I agree that some individual efforts where there and hoping it continues into the season.
But considering last night was as close to the opening roster as we will have. Don't think anyone has brought this up yet but I really don't like the body language and energy on the bench. There seems to be something missing to bring the guys together. It's sad but I think the loser mentality has set into the culture. No fightback , no heart and in front of their own fans nevertheless. I am not sure it will automatically turn on when the season starts.

They play like a collection of players instead of a collective team. And it's ridiculous that we had 5 hits the whole game, we are going to be ran over in most games.

That's a different animal. TB and Fla know they're contenders. Or a real possibility in the Panthers case. The Kings aren't sure they're a playoff team yet.

It's sort of a chicken/egg scenario. Do you think you're good, so you dig a little deeper? Or, do you dig a little deeper once you show that you might have something going?

Yea, and you are using a single data point to gauge “progress”. I saw “progress” for the first 30 mins of the game. And the team absolutely quit after Byfield did his ankle, but honestly that is a pretty human reaction to seeing a teammates injury in a meaningless game.

My question is how do they look the first 5-10 games is much more important than the 3rd period of the 5th preseason game.
