I'm trying to think of a comparable player in the league that's similar to Byfield. He is extremely unique. There aren't a lot of players in the league at his size that can do what he does. When Carter was on the team he had high top-end speed, but wasn't nearly as quick as Byfield is.
Somewhere in between Rick Nash and Evgeni Malkin.

Yeah, what was so impressive last night is that Byfield would drive to the center of the ice, two defensemen would collapse on him, and he'd end up in front of them both with the puck. On more than one occasion, I was shocked at both aspects of that move. After two decades of Kings players trying to go around, it's awesome to see someone try to go through the opposition (and be successful).

The thing is, it isn’t just one preseason game, it’s a reoccurring theme with this team that has only gotten worse since it really started to surface in 2015-2016.

No, they badly outplayed the Coyotes, Byfield got hurt, and the air went out of the tires in the exact same fashion as when Roy, Bjornfot and Anderson were railed last year.

Just like a players individual progress you look for a team's progress as well. A perfect opportunity to show that last years failings could be addressed presented itself and they failed.

It's like watching a season premier of Gilligan's Island and thinking "well, its a new year, maybe they'll get rescued". Of course not, we know the story here. It's not going to change itself, somebody has to be proactive. This team is reactive by nature - and not in a positive way either.

Last year the teams were trailing in the first period and looking grossly unprepared for every game.

They came out with more energy and execution.

It's the "team progress" you're looking for. Byfield was great and I expect him to be great going forward. But a talented player with 6 NHL games playing a bottom-six role isn't a "wind out of your sails" moment. Coyotes pushed back and had a couple bounces go in their favor.

I'm not saying it's not a problem, or that it won't be. I just don't think yesterday is a good example.

I just hope QB heals up 100%. Worry about everything else after that.

This is why we can't have nice things!

I must say, I have been pretty pessimistic about Byfield (but hopeful he developed into a strong center). After really seeing him in action last night, I was impressed. It was interesting. I was not even specifically watching him closely, rather watching the game in general, and he was definitely noticeable. Vilardi also had the best game of his career in my opinion. I hope he can sustain this play during the regular season. If he does, I can see him easily potting 25+ goals.

Absolutely agree. This was the perfect opportunity to show some face and pride and at some point, team unity. IMO some of the most precious ways to see that is admittedly an overreaction to a rather mundane play, especially so in a "meaningless game". Like when someone barely runs the goalie in a flat game. In Quick's case, he's given up waiting for someone on his team to respond. There wasn't a single team that went deep in the playoffs that didn't have that tightness whether a play deserved it or not.

It does feel a bit like we're making a mountain out of a molehill given it's preason but the history.is.there and you bet your ass I'm looking for a possible turning of the corner in team culture at this stage. Because to me that signifies a shitload more than a couple of personal growth steps in stamina or skill. That's a team that can overcome adversity even if they are outmatched. Yes that unity can develop and build as you start to advance in the standings and during precious moments in a game at early parts of the season. To me, that's really the only reason for me worth watching the rest of the games this season, waiting for those moments. Otherwise, there is always hope for next. :help:

Ankle fractures can vary widely in terms of severity.

It could be pretty minor, or you could have multiple breaks requiring a significant operation.

My guess is that it won't be all that severe.

I mean all things considered that is probably on of the better outcomes for QB. No ligament damage, no achilles injury, and no high ankle sprain which tend to linger longer than a simple fracture.

To be honest, I’ll take a fractured ankle over multiple tendons ruptured.

But yes, f***.
It depends on if there is any tendon involvement, that’s not ruled out by any means. If it’s ‘only’ a broken bone then that’s probably good news at this point. I guess he uses this time to build strength in other areas and hangs around learning all he can about being a pro. Hopefully he’s back on the ice in 6 weeks but the devil will be in the detail.

Maybe he'll just sit in a wheelchair and work only his upper body like @LT Dan

Lol. Exactly my thought. But in all seriousness that’s how to look at it, he’ll be able to do upper body strength work he wouldn’t be able to do whilst he’s playing, make the most of a bad situation.

I'm legitimately curious, why never? Are you just saying you're never going to praise him currently given what he's shown thus far, or have you already permanently decided that we made the wrong choice and should have grabbed Stutzle or Drysdale?

I took it as a joke - implying causation. He praised Byfield then Byfield immediately got injured. Therefore never praise Byfield so he'll never get injured.
