The game was pretty good, until Byfield got hurt. Blake has done a great job at bringing in talent, but totally dropped the ball when it came to insulating the kids with tough players. If Brown, Moore, Kempe, Wagner, or Edler are not those player, then some of them need to be replaced to complement Lemieux. They are the ones counted on to provide that team toughness, when Lemieux is not on ice or in the game and team totally tanked right after the Byfield incident.

We must all hold hands and pray to Jobu.

Start saying your prayers for the survivors of our top 10 polling:

1. Quinton Byfield, F (98.6%), +0 - deceased, 10/5/21
2. Brandt Clarke, D (43.3%), NR - mono/mystery illness, stop kissing teammates
3. Alex Turcotte, F (69.9%), +0 - i mean, pick one - mono, appendicitis, whatever mystery knee thing was messing up his life
4. Arthur Kaliyev, F (94.1%), +1
5. Brock Faber, D (44.6%), +9
6. Rasmus Kupari, F (67.1%), +3 - Major ACL injury
7. Akil Thomas, F (35.4%), +4 - Who needs shoulders
8. Samuel Fagemo, F (47.5%), -2
9. Tyler Madden, F (65.9%), -1 - Has anyone seen my collarbone
10. Francesco Pinelli, F (34.2%), NR

only a matter of time before Kaliyev dehydrates with Montezuma's Revenge and sharts a kidney and Pinelli gets hit by a car or whatever f***ing Final Destination event happens next

Meh, sucky loss. My takeaways:
- people say "why play these guys in meaningless games that don't count towards the standings?" Well... they need to get in game shape. Byfield could have just as easily been injured in game 1.
- Byfield's health and well-being is the biggest concern
- the Kings controlled a lot through the first half. I don't take the Coyotes fighting back and getting chances in the latter half as an indictment on the character, will, or resolve of the team. It's often a battle back and forth.
- credit to the Coyotes for making their opportunities count. The Kings hit at least 4 posts though. The score doesn't reflect the quality of play.

If they think Kupari can step in, they haven't been paying attention this pre-season. Kupari hasn't shown anything close to what QB did in one game.

Plus, Kupari is not a play driver like QB has been the entire pre-season. He needs someone like QB creating chances for him first.

Was at the game.

Wish they still kept us away.

Don't need a fight after the Byfield injury but do need the team to start finishing some checks after. Think the home arena stat guy had them at five hits for the night. This isn't a new complaint.

There's definitely more skill on the team. Still a lack of balls. Can't win in this league without them. Maybe in another ten years you can but we aren't there yet.

The best part about Kopitar retiring at some point is that it's impossible someone with less balls will take the C since Kopitar is soft as shit.

That being said, looking at the Byfield incident. I don't think it looks as bad as Kopitars. Kopitars was much worse to me. Kopitars skate was dug in for the entirety of his fall. This might just hopefully be better than that by a bit. It's a setback and he was amazing today. But man, I might just be an optimist about this injury. But it just doesn't look as bad. He's lucky his leg didn't catch in a spot for a long time.

Rangers fan here coming in peace. Glad to see that Andersson's looking good for you guys, I was one of his few supporters on our board. I think he could've been a good piece for us if we hadn't had David Quinn as our head coach. That said, Will Cuylle (the guy we took with your 2nd) is looking like a future NHLer, so it looks like that trade might end up working out well for both sides.

Byfield news sucks though

The Kings, no matter what, seem to have a difficult time beating Ari on home ice. Both teams good, both bad, different rosters, different coaches, it all ends the same way. Year after year.

On the other hand, the Kings do decently well in Ari. To at least offset their struggles at home.

Having tough players wouldn’t have prevented the injury, you’d just have had a fight immediately afterwards.

Edit: I agree the intensity and the hitting needs to go up, no question. They don’t need to be tough guys to do that.

I agree it doesn’t look as bad, not great but not as much twisting of the lower leg. Let’s just hope… I may even pray to the hockey gods.

The score of the game is irrelevant, but the tone and demeanor of what could have likely been the opening night squad isn't. It is very concerning that they folded just like last year's cheap suit and let a single incident derail a prolonged period of time where multiple goals are allowed without a push back or a catalyst taking charge.

We can talk about 4 lines that can score or the promise of these kids breaking in, but absolutely nothing is going to change until somebody takes responsibility on ice for nipping these issues in the bud as soon as they happen.

Doesn't have to be a fight, even though those do help change the temperature of the game. It should just be a "leader" going out and showing that there will be a push back. That has not happened with this team for several years now. One incident leads to multiple shifts in a row of being on their heels. That is the single biggest problem with this team right now.

After sleeping on it, I'm going to pray to the hockey gods for two things:
  1. Byfield's injury isn't more than 6-8 weeks and he's back good as new by Thanksgiving
  2. Whoever steps up and takes his spot runs with it and we have an even better, younger squad when he returns
I think that player could be Turcotte, Kupari, Kaliyev, or Fagemo, lots of good options. There's also AA who I'm less excited about, but hey, if he brings speed, physicality, and a bit of goal scoring to our bottom 6, why not. AA is also someone who has dropped the gloves for a teammate, and as we've discussed we need more players who are willing to do that if the situation calls for it. It'd be nice if we had a defenseman who would too.

+1....I'm gonna offset some of the negativity on the QB injury (albeit justified) and say it's not that bad once they are able to get x-rays and all. QB will be back on the ice by the beginning of 2022 and with the Kings for the post Olympics run.
