Camp weigh ins

Kreider should definitely be in the top six. Kreider/Laf/Kakko/Panarin. It's not that complicated. Kravtsov has no business starting the season there based on what he has shown so far in his career in the NHL/AHL.

don’t be surprised if kreider starts on mikas Left. Gallant already indicated he would have no problem trying LaF at RW. If he looks good enough there, expect to see a Kreider-Zibby-LaF line at some point. Maybe straight out of camp.
If Gallant feels he’s got a motivated Kreids, I expect this.
Everyone talks about chemistry between strome/panarin. But they forget how well kreids/Zibby were 2 even 3 years ago

Kravtsov was drafted as an 18 year old at 6'3". It's not out of the realm of possibility that he grew two more inches.

wtf is Strome still on the roster?

Are we self renting him this year?
I’ve been asking myself this for a good 2 months.
Not that I hate strome either. I just don’t see how his value would get any higher and I don’t see him in long range plans beyond this season.
This is a pretty important time for chytil as well. We have too many players for the roster. If they aren’t giving chytil a long enough look/opportunity before upgrading at the end of the season, what’s the point??
I expect Barron to make the team out of camp and take over 3c duties by mid season maybe earlier. Literally the only aspect he’s shakey on is face offs, and if Goodrow is on his wing it’s a non- issue. He’ll wind up taking the big draws anyway and go back to playing excellent from the wing. Barron is very smart, and has adapted to the center ice position well in a very short time.
Very impressed what he’s accomplished over the last year and a half Tbh

For all the shit that I see Gallants answers getting on social, there is a ton of truth to the simple notion of buying in.

Look at how the team last year wasn’t buying what Quinn was selling. Look at how the islanders do buy what Trotz is selling.

yes it’s coach speak and quasi “non answers” but it’s not without truth.

sometimes the simple most direct answer is the best solution. I don’t think we see a gallant coached team come out flat and lifeless for 10 GMs in a row consistently putting us behind.
I’m sure we’ll have a stinker here and there, happens to everyone. But watching his teams in FLA/ Vegas - they give a shit. It’s a pride/gumption thing.
On top of that all of the guys looked to be having fun. When that happens and your having fun and working hard, good things tend to follow......
I’m glad we’re brought in some character guys like that because it tends to be infectious.

Was putting off watching that GG video because I assumed it was just more of the same, but tbh he seems like a real straight shooter. DQ and AV were great with the media, but all their answer's were just part of the official NHL coaching script. From GG, I don't sense any bullshit. Really excited to see what he can do with this roster, gonna be a fun run fellas.

To piggy back on my earlier comment about Gallant, I went from thinking he was the best available for the job to thinking he is THE man for the job. As a lifelong blue collar, I speak with a certainty that he is the exact kind of boss you wanna work hard for. You can tell from the way he speaks to his mannerisms that he is one of the guys. After all of last years drama, he is perfect for this club.

Trouba and Fox went to Chicago for the media tour.

Fox went because he won the Norris, I don't think the Rangers would have sent Trouba if they didn't intend on naming him Captain.

That decision has already been made IMO. It won't be Kreider as if they were going to go that route, they probably would have done it already. I know it's a new coaching staff, but Dru has been around and I'd rather his focus be on scoring more than 1 point at ES over a 20 game stretch than overthinking things because he's now captain of the Rangers. I think naming a captain just to do it is dumb (and thats what they're doing here) but Kreider is the one guy I don't want getting it since I could easily see it hurting him.

I am totally fine if its Trouba.

But I also don’t think anything is decided yet nor do I think if Kreider was named Captain that it would inhibit his on ice play. I think if he is named Captain, its sorta status quo for him as he has been acting like a Captain the last few years anyway.

A few things I picked up from the press conference:

They've discussed wing switched and if a player is comfortable then they'll try it.

Similarly (and flying in the face of many arguments had on here) he said not a big deal to have defensemen play their off-side as long as the player is comfortable with it. Wing to center wasn't brought up but I wonder what his thoughts are on that one.

As he was asked about the Captaincy:
1st question (whoever asked smartly brought up that VGK didn't have a captain during his time there) - He said it's important and bet on a C being named by season start.

Follow-up (what you want C to be) - C is important but 23 guys more important. Voice in room has to be from 23 guys not 1 or 2. VGK didn't have a C and he felt it made a lot of guys buy in.

Another Follow-up (Reason why this specific team needs a C) - No, not really. Discussed with Drury, some of the players last year talked about wanting a captain (in exits maybe?). To him it's not a big deal but he knows it's important in a market like this.

I just think the above was an interesting progression in answers.
