as a small female who looks no older than 19-21, it's super weird looking at Laffy and knowing he's that much younger than I am, but looks about 25.

sheesh.

hope you guys all had a good summer.

As a 35 year old man it's weird that Laf was a teenager last year. I see teenagers driving or hanging around my town all the time and think they look like toddlers. Heck, I see kids who are genuinely 21 in bars that look 15. Laf is from that Aaron Ekblad line of teenage genetics.

That's Ekblad accepting his CALDER trophy. He was 19 years old.

So, GG wants to look for someone to play off-wing but hasn't had conversations with any of the players potentially involved yet. Which means he doesn't talk to players a la AV.

So, GG says his system isn't a whole lot different than Quinn's.

FIRE GALLANT.

Can they even play RW? Both are natural LWs.

So another coach who doesn't have a system. Great.
I take this to mean he's not going to drastically overhaul what was going on, like moving to a man to man defensive system or running a left wing lock or something like that.

We have enough of a track record of Gallant as an NHL head coach to know how he likes his teams to play, he's not some unknown quantity.

Turn up the pressure on forechecking and start taking away space in the neutral zone by playing tight on the other team to create turnovers instead of playing passively and conceding the NZ and we're in business. DQ talked about this stuff all the time, he just couldn't get the team to actually do it. Hopefully Gallant has more success in getting them to buy in, him being an established successful NHL head coach who was also a good NHL player should hopefully bode well for him in this regard.

I'm turning 32 in November and I look younger than both of them.

Kreider should just do it. He’s a puck retriever play him opposite Panarin. He’s not making plays from either wing. His game is net front, puck retriever and I’m sure he’d do a good job getting shots off that side we’ve seen him do it.

I don’t understand messing at all with what should be a franchise left wing

Lafreniere Mika Kakko
Panarin Strome Kreider
Goodrow Chytil Kravtsov
Blais/Barron/Rooney/Reaves/Hunt

Exactly the lines I was about to post.

Blais-Rooney-Reaves with Hunt as the 13F who rotates in would be my 4th.

Let Barron get legit 1C minutes in Hartford and be the first call up when needed (future 3C if/when Strome is moved and Chytil is 2C)

Honestly, it's a bit surprising this hasn't been tried. Kreider doesn't really need to be on his strong wing because his game isn't predicated that much by having his stick in the shooting lane and scoring from a distance. If playing hungry, his speed and size would cause fits when Panarin and Strome are doing their thing, and we all know he makes his money in front of the net, where he'd heavy plenty of opportunity with those two.

Totally agree would not move any of the franchise wings off their natural spot. Especially Laff.

Haha my initial reaction was “why would we want Kreider on his off wing when he can barely handle the puck on his forehand” then you bring up a good point in that he isnt going to create much from either side anyways

He absolutely had a system it's just that all of the veteran players completely ignored it.

If his goal was to get his team to play on top of their opponents, the vets weren't the only ones who ignored it. Quinn's teams looked like they were caught between trying to do 5 things at the same time and not doing any of them particularly well. I'm not going to shit on his corpse as he's been gone for a while, but I'm really, really, really happy he is gone.

Did any of the reporters ask Gallant about the vaccination status of the roster? Seems like every other HC/GM meeting the media in the last 24 hours has been asked about and/or addressed this topic.

I kinda think that may imply we have a star player who’s not vaccinating. And because it’s not like we’re gonna disinvite them to camp, we’re keeping quiet.

That wouldn't explain a reporter not asking the question. Maybe this crew, overall, just stinks at their jobs

I figured Vince would have asked.

I assume Carp was too busy saying a photo of Pete Rose was "badass" to be bothered doing his job.

Yeah, which system is Gallant referring to? When we played the way DQ wanted for a few weeks right after TDA was kicked off the team or the way the players wanted?

I don’t think DQs Xs and Os were flawed. What he concluded that we needed to do, was a big problem. The way he failed to realize the improvements that could be done in other areas, was a big problem.
