I don't disagree with your evaluation of Hyman there but what about his legs? I think when he loses his legs, remember it took until his mid-20's to get his NHL legs, he won't be able to play any role competently at the NHL level. What sometimes get overlooked on these admirable try-hard players like Hyman is that he's going full throttle out on the ice AT ALL TIMES. That's why I believe he appears so pedestrian in the playoffs because he's got nothing extra to give against opponents who do have something extra to add to their games.
I loved Hyman but you're completely right on the effort part. It seemed he was winning all those puck battles during the reg season and then just stopped in the playoffs. I know he had an injured knee in 2 of the series. But I also think that he doesn't win as many battles when the other players are trying 100% in the playoffs. It's kind of like playing all out in the all star game against guys who don't care to back check. Does that mean you are way better than the rest or you just tried harder than them? What happens when they do try as hard as Hyman?...we know the result because of the last couple of playoffs.
