The Leafs roster is like a Rubik's cube. It's beyond me to figure it out.

Suppose they trade both Kerfoot and Holl without taking salary back? Then they could rummage through the bargain bin they've brought to camp to their heart's content without exposing so many players to waivers.

Maybe replacements emerge from within.

Probably the most stupid thought I've had all day -- I'll know that tomorrow morning.

Otherwise, without shedding some salary, they're just going to have to leave some garbage at the curb. Maybe that's the better path? Is one Kerfoot worth three of Ho Sang, Gusev, Engvall, Brooks, Spezza and/or Liljegren? Beats me.

Honestly, having a solid 3C & a #4 RHD for 5.5 mil seems like a good deal to me.

I hope Kerfoot carries over his play from the playoffs, if that’s the case he’s the kinda guy you can slot anywhere in the top 9 and have results. Definitely our best option for 3C as well.

I'll go into la-la-land here for a second and imagine if all of Ho-Sang, Bunting, Ritchie, Kase and Robertson have super successful camps playing great, and Kerfoot-Nylander duo keeps being awesome like they were in the playoffs; would it be possible to play all 4 lines decent minutes? A center lineup of Matthews-Tavares-Kerfoot-Kampf could be pretty cool..

I like Spezza and Simmonds as a 13th and 14th forward that you can rotate into the lineup as the need arises, but the Leafs don't have cap space for that.

My only strong opinion is that Liljegren should be on the team -- most likely as the seventh defenceman.

If that's the case, do you just try to figure out the best 12 forwards and waive goodbye to the others? At present, they could have either 13 forwards or seven defencemen, but not both.

Lots of decisions will have to be made, which fortunately turn on the bottom of the roster.

Sure, why not?

But if Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Nylander, Kerfoot, Ritchie, Kampf, Ho Sang, Bunting, Kase and Roberston are 11 of the 12 or 13 forwards the Leafs could carry, which of Spezza, Simmonds, Mikheyev, Engvall, Brooks, Gusev, Anderson and Gabriel fill out the other one or two spots?

With the Leafs cap situation, it's possible they could only carry 12 forwards. They might lose the players who are not signed (Gusev and Ho Sang) or who have to pass through waivers (everyone except Robertson), who would then not be available to call up in case of injuries or performance issues.

They are in a very, very tight spot.

It's rather like the college students finding out how many people you can squeeze into a Volkswagen.

And very few of the roster choices are obvious. For me, once you get past Matthews, Tavares, Marner, Nylander, Kerfoot and Ritchie, all bets are off. If it were up to me, I don't know who would stay and who would go.

I mean WTAF?

was he too busy doing his other job as a shoe salesman, a job he went out and got because 7m just isn't enough?

If his been in Europe that queue might have gone by age groups and Nylander is pretty young. In Finland you couldn't just go and grab vaccine until it was your turn.

I'm really hoping fingers crossed that Ho-Sang turns the corner here, his talent has never been in question. It could be a game changer for the Leafs if his attitude, work ethic, discipline match his skill. Could literally be a game changer.

I also really like the Nylander-Kerfoot combo, I wish they would try that more rather than keep going top heavy with Marner-Matthews, JT-Nylander.

Dahlstrom must be way down the depth chart as a LHD. He's probably 6th for the left side. You just need to have a few bodies around in case of a rash of injuries.

I haven't heard any further mention of the undrafted camp invites. Have none of them impressed?

I don’t think Robertson will be on the team. At least not to start anyway. I also don’t know how game ready Kase is, so we will see there. Either way, I don’t think there’s any question mikheyev and spezza are on this team.

They might do that sire. Definitely. And would suit our rear ends like a sucka too. We want to be able to be as tough and hard as we can sire. Having strong centerfield is a real key for life sire. We would want to go there for surely.
