Should have just fired him. He was very incompetent his role and there’s not a lot from his playing days that would suggest he’s a power play specialist.

From The Cynick: Watch, the PP will start the season strong. Why? Because good teams are still coasting. By mid season it will start to falter and people will be confused and blame some random assistant coach.

As per the above example, members know exactly who to blame for the power play woes from the bench: Manny Malholtra. Where's the confusion from the fan side exactly?

Strange hill to die on. Manny Malholtra's incompetence is one of the few unifying facts that our fanbase has consensus on.

Because he WAS taken off the PP for a spell
No, he wasn't. He shared 1st unit with Sandin for a few games when the PP had been cold, Sandin needed minutes, and Rielly needed less minutes (still getting more PP TOI/GP than the regular season). That's not removing Rielly from the PP, and there's nothing to suggest he's upset about it.

Anyone there at Ford?

Is Sandin skating with Holl? And Dermy with Muzzy? This is what I heard over summer was Keefer wanted to try a vet - rook setup for pairs 2 and 3.

Holl being fast enough to catch Sandin's lack of foot speed issues and Dermy helping on same front for Muzzy.

NCAA guy the Leafs signed to an AHL deal near the end of last year.

Just looking him up, not a very big guy but here are some of his accomplishments over his 4 years in college:

All-time assists leader in the Division I-era with 80 and is fourth in points with 94
Also hold the DI-era plus/minus mark with a +41.
3 time Hobey Baker award nominee

Will be interesting to see how his game translates to the pros.

given that Holl has been just ok to terrible without Muzzin, can’t say I’m a big fan of this idea

Dermott, Holl and Rielly are in group 1. Sandin, Brodie and Muzzin are in group 2.

Wonder who they will use as a placeholder for Matthews in the pre-season?

mikheyev-kerfoot-nylander could be interesting line.

maybe bunting-tavares- kase as the other line?

yeah i was thinking we might see that in the group 2. we'll find out soon.

the other possibility is kerfoot is placeholding for tavares there and could flip down into amadio's spot on a Robertson-Kerfoot-Spezza line.

Lots of AHL depth in there but surprised to see Douglas get reps with Kerfoot/Mik.

Most have him as a bottom sixer on the Marlies but he had an excellent prospect camp. PPG in the Traverse tourney and leaned out a bit losing 10lbs. Wonder how far off they view him.

I definitely see 4C potential.

If his plan is to use Rielly as an own rental in order to serve his best interests, he should have been fired yesterday. It is inexcusable to allow Rielly to walk for nothing. Fail to get to round #2 and watching Rielly walk for nothing will make this past off season look like a picnic in terms of fan anger.
But it just makes so much sense for Dubas doesn't it?

He's fired anyway if the Leafs don't find any postseaon success, literally means nothing to him at that point if Rielly walks for nothing.

This is where upper management needs to step in and rectify this. That is pure bullshit if we're gonna sacrifice *ANOTHER* asset just to let this GM drive us to another failure.

I'd take Pulock and Lindholm over Rielly. I think people forget about Lindholm because of Anaheim being so bad. Klingberg probably the RD version of Rielly but cleaned himself up a bit more defensively lately.

I expect Pulock and Klingberg to be re-signed.

If you wanted to go "budget" style and try to do 2 defenseman to replace Rielly similar how we signed a few LW to replace Hyman they could probably afford...

Leddy+ someone else
Justin Schultz + someone else

I would guess depending on handedness that could also effect what happens with Holl too.

Muzzin-Pulock would be sexy as hell or Lindholm-Brodie

Yeah I'd definitely take all of Pulock, Klingberg and Lindholm over Rielly.

Do any of Ho-Sang or Gusev have a shot at a contract. Would be cool to see them shine.

Morgan Rielly on his contract status heading into a UFA year: “You all know how I feel about being a Leaf, but there’s a business aspect to it.”

You could literally just replace Rielly with Hyman for the quote...I get the same vibes. Team and player like one another but can't make $$ work.

He gone!!

So much for 6.25 x 8

I am now on board with ToneDog, we should trade Rielly for futures since we shouldn't resign him to market rate, and then give Dubas a few more years at the helm since it will be a mini retool by doing this.

Sometimes you just have to be brutally honest with the situation even if you like the player, the team and the GM.

We've had no playoff success *with* Rielly. If we trade him and go into next year without him, what's the worst case scenario? The standard is already so low that it's not even that hard to top.

I'm thinking either Ho Sang or Gusev. I think Keefe is going to reunite Kampf and Kase (who have played together in Europe in the past) on the 4th line and Kase is going to play the Tyler Ennis role, destroying other teams' 4th lines. Simmonds I would guess rounds out that 4th line.
