I think having a rocket shot will no doubt help but it is not the be all end all.
One thing I like to see is more movements/chaos in front of the net and more shots taken in the PP. It seemed like the PP was looking for the perfect shot all the time and it ended with just passing around for 40 seconds.

True, I found they stayed stationary in their spots way too much. Movement is probably the biggest thing, and I think it could be they got too comfortable.

Leafs had the 2nd best pp in the league in 17-18 without a D man who scored more than 6 goals and Marner leading them with a whopping 69 points. The Oilers had a 29% pp two years ago without a 6 goal D man. This is fixable if they use what they have properly.

No doubt about it. The frustrating part about the Leafs PP is the fact that Leafs got more than enough offensive talents to be in the top 5 PP in the league and yet they struggled.
It is not the lack in talents but more in using them properly.

Kypreos said he would be pissed if it was him this morning. I wondered the same thing and posted it. Then all he'll broke loose. Lol.
I know.
I can imagine if I post something like AM might miss a few games due to recovering from his injuries and some here will start attacking me by speculating AM won't be back....and then start listing the time line of the surgery and recovery time.......and I don't know anything and should not state that....... bc there is no truth behind it.....
Some fans are just too sensitive for no reason. Lol.

How do you take Rielly off but not Marner? No goals in 72 consecutive games on pp? Willing to bet you could've put a number of players in Marners spot and found better success.
But Marner is the League All Star RW and 4th highest points scorer in the league. How can you take him off a struggling PP? Do you know how some fans on this forum will react if Marner is taken off the 1st PP? He is the chosen HomeTown boy that is will bring home the Cup, you don't take him off anything. Lol.

Let people react. Two guys on the same PP with mediocre shots who both have a habit of holding on to the puck too long looking for the perfect play is a bad recipe. Either change the PP philosophy or move one of them to the second unit.

Annoying thing is early in the year they were moving and switching all over the place like I've never seen them do before.

Yep and they were scoring and creating great chances then all of a sudden they just stopped.

Teams figured out the players tendencies. The issue is when you put the big four on the PP in any combo I can tell you exactly what they will do with the puck depending where they touch it. It takes time for teams to compile video and make adjustments. The Leafs are among the easiest PPs to solve for in the league. A bomb from the point would change everything.

Watch, the PP will start the season strong. Why? Because good teams are still coasting. By mid season it will start to falter and people will be confused and blame some random assistant coach.

What are you talking about? There's posters speculating that Rielly is mad that he got taken off the PP in the playoffs, what exactly is the point of even mentioning something like that, I don't get it.

Because he WAS taken off the PP for a spell, he IS currently unsigned beyond the upcoming season, it seems reasonable to wonder where his head may be at on a number of Leaf related matters.

Oh yea, it's a discussion board with a wide variety of thoughts and opinions.

I'm not arguing that. I am sick of HFBoardsters claiming that TOR's PP futility has everything to do with a lack of rocket from the point.

I wouldn't say a lack of shot option from the point was the primary reason because let's face it, Toronto killed off a good percentage of their PP's just daydreaming on the transition, but a good healthy PP would ideally have two designated trigger options for a playmaking Marner to work with, and a point man with a great would have been a good look. (Think Backstrom to either Ovechkin or Carlson).

There's only one team that has Backstrom, Ovi, and Carlson.

You can criticize a lot on TOR's PP:

1. No jam/grit
2. No screen
3. No shoot-in and puck recovery
4. Trying to get Matthews his cookies
5. Passing the puck all the way into the net
6. Marner rarely shooting (like Kaberle)

Personnel isn't likely the issue:

PP production Since 2016-17, minimum 500min of PP time (231 players total):

If his plan is to use Rielly as an own rental in order to serve his best interests, he should have been fired yesterday. It is inexcusable to allow Rielly to walk for nothing. Fail to get to round #2 and watching Rielly walk for nothing will make this past off season look like a picnic in terms of fan anger.

Agreed. If that happens, it's over in my mind. Dubas needs to go.
