Looks like losing a decent player to waivers is becoming an annual event for us.

Perhaps Management may want to reconsider who they waive because it's obvious they put players that other Teams value.

Has any team lost as many players as we have over the past 3 or seasons? I guess other Teams are better at judging our roster and their value than we are.

Absolutely pissed off we waived Brooks. He is a young, decent 4C at a cheap price, who has done everything that has been asked of him, and has showed he can play with Spezza on the 4th line.

Add to it that our Centre pipeline is absolute garbage, what you are exposing one of our few Centre options outside the Big 4 for?

Seriously, who a 4C or 5C option for us moving forward? Enqval?

Amadio is as young, as cheap and has a longer history of production while also being more well rounded. He’s their 4thC option and likely gets claimed if they waived him instead.

Both players are probably a wash, but i think id prefer Brooks because of the emotional investment.

Regardless, getting players claimed is a testament to depth. Unfortunately since they never get through we lose that advantage. Nothing Dubas could’ve done here, whoever was going down was getting picked IMO.

Amadio is the same age. We have Semyonov right now too. Both were signed as UFA's. It is not overly difficult to find replacements for guys like Brooks long term.

The guys we've lost on waivers the past few years are mostly UFA depth guys we've signed. None of them really had trade value. Losing Timashov somewhat sucks I guess but he hasn't really turned into anything. Brooks is older than Timashov and hasn't turned into anything either. We

Stuff like this happens. We don't have room on his roster for him so what are we supposed to do? Waive and likely lose Amadio or Engvall instead? Make a trade?

I agree, we'd be so much better off if all of our players were so bad that no one wanted to claim them. Having more than 20 good players in our system SUCKS!

The fact that Brooks got claimed after finishing camp as the 16th forward (behind Engvall, Amadio, and Semyonov) speaks to the depth management has built. Hes a fine 4C, but the Leafs have a number of options. Semyonov won't be in the lineup despite two top nine forwards out to start the season.

They'll be fine.

Barring other injuries, yes.

Yes, it being talked about almost daily on the sports shows, try to keep up. Smurf hockey didn’t work.

What's the alternative?

The team is limited by the number of bodies they can carry based on roster limits AND cap considerations.

If a guy hasn't clearly won a roster spot, there's not much else they can do with them

Lotta people fired up about Brooks getting claimed, probably more so because the Habs got him...but at the end of the day he's a tweener thus far @ 25 years old.

Low draft pick who was good in the WHL, and has seen his production drop each level after that. I get attached to players too but come on boys.

Whatever it takes to improve the team. I swear some of you wanna just roll the same rosters out year after year and then complain about Dubas after lol

Any of the other options would have been taken same as Brooks, they didn't fail to scout him as the only guy that would get taken. Semyonov has an out clause and Amadio is the same guy as Brooks except bigger and more experienced. I can't honestly say he's noticeably more valuable than the other guys other than being a Marlies grad for a feel good story.

Amadio is a viable 4C option, with over 200 games in the NHL.

This was anticipated months ago.

They waived Brooks, Menell, and Anderson, the latter two of which cost assets to acquire not long ago. It's likely that Amadio is waived when Mikheyev is healthy, and Engvall is on thin ice.

Trading one of Brooks/Anderson/Engvall at the draft for a pick, or in a larger package would have been ideal. I'd rather them have swapped Brooks straight up for Menell instead of a pick since everyone in the fanbase knew he'd be waived this camp anyways.

Brooks is a nothing player and at 25, he is what he is. He'll likely be back on waivers in a month. I'd personally rather lose Brooks than Anderson anyways, given Anderson's term and age, but to spend years developing guys like Timashov, Brooks, etc. and lose them is definitely not ideal.

Toronto Maple Leafs players Rasmus Sandin, Timothy Liljegren, and Pierre Engvall are at tonight's Toronto Raptors game.

I know Liljegren and Sandin are good friends. Looks like Engvall is part of their group though.

Great news, another guy walked in for nothing that was considered better in Amadio.

I was replying to another poster who mentioned another Leaf player was lost for nothing in Brooks.
My gift of the English language was lacking.
What I was trying to say was "Great News", A guy considered by management to be better than Brooks had joined the team at no cost.
To offset the guy who walked for nothing.

Seemed like a small win to me.

Only if Menell plays 30 games with the Leafs do they surrender a 7th round pick.
I prefered this to have given up Brooks.
A longshot to play 30 games IMO and a easy payment if he does.
