I think he will get a chance with Mikheyev out. Even without Mikheyev's injury, I would have imagine he rotated in.

The thing I don't get is Amadio also being there. I don't remember Semyonov being officially cut, so we have 14 forwards (Amadio + Semyonov with an Simmonds-Engvall-Spezza 4th line) + 7 defensemen (Liljegren/Dermott/Sandin as the 5-7) and then Mikheyev on LTIR. There has to be at least two more moves, and if it is not someone getting traded or put on waivers, that means Sandin/Liljegren and Semyonov got cut.
We have LTIR room for a 22 man roster while Mikheyev is out, so only 1 more cut has to be made (14F+6D or 13F+7D).

Waiving Brooks on the day they know 50 other players will be waived is smart. They could still keep him with the team then send him right before his 30 day window expires as Mikheyev is about to come back. Makes it far less likely he'll be claimed then putting him on mid-season when there are only 1-2 waiver players a day and teams have a more clear idea of if they need depth

Is Mikheyev not gonna go on LTIR? Why waive Brooks?

Nobody really knows. I suspect it's to get him waiver cleared for ~30 days while there's 50ish players on waivers. It feels very unlikely a team claims him right now. In a few weeks, that probably changes a lot with injuries and other factors. See: Vesey, Boyd.

I think it's probably a mix of that and maybe some cap space/LTIR min/maxing. I think he'll be on the Leafs roster even if he clears.

Somewhat surprised they'd opt for Amadio over Brooks. Then again, Amadio brings a lot more NHL experience when considering the two players are the same age. Semyonov will also be in the mix. I could see Brooks being claimed but I probably wouldn't quite give it favourable odds.

Because a bunch of posters were hoping that he would fail.

Just looking at Ritchie's stats last season with the Bruins and everything from his production levels to his underlying stats match up as a comparison almost perfectly with another player on that team. Guess who?

Working out nicely for us so far. Hopefully it carries into the season.

Kase/Ritchie seem to be a MUCH better fit on this team than Thornton/Vesey/Boyd.

Kampf/Bunting/Kase/Ritchie vs Hyman/Vesey/Boyd/Thornton

Gonna have to see how it plays out but I'm feeling confident ATM.

So now that pre season is over what’s our opening night line up?

Ritchie-Matthews-Marner
Bunting-Tavares-Nylander
Engvel-Kerfoot-Spezza
Simmonds-Kampf-Kase

Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Holl
Dermott-Liljegren
Sandin
?

Im excited to see what Ritchie brings! I only watched 2 preseason games but be in those two games, he was great!

Agreed.

I think the early indications are that he will be a better scoring option than Hyman on the top line. He probably won't be as good of a forechecker, but he is still tough on the puck and he likes to drop the gloves.

At less than half of the AAV of Hyman, Ritchie could be a great value replacement.
