Imagine that being your life's ambition.....L or R does not matter if the player is willing and comfortable playing there.
It's such a bizarre thing. Some D actually look better on their off-side. A little bit of research and I actually found out that Brodie played LD early in his career until he was shifted to the right side and it turns out he was actually better there.

Mackenzie Weegar turned out to be a very similar story, just as a right handed D.

Is Woll hurt? This is the third pre-season game that Kallgren has dressed for, but Woll hasn't been included for any games at all...

Don’t know if this was posted before:

Most likely to miss: Toronto Maple Leafs

In their past two seasons, the Maple Leafs posted their two best regular-season points percentages in franchise history, including last season's .701 to earn them second in the Atlantic. Auston Matthews scored 60 goals and won his first Hart Trophy. Mitchell Marner had career bests in goals (35) and points (97). So did William Nylander, who scored 34 goals and 80 points. Their top four on defense remain solid. Their supporting cast at forward might be better year over year. GM Kyle Dubas, who doesn't have a contract beyond this season, has the Leafs' roster loaded, even if their heads are slamming against the salary-cap ceiling.

Except in goal.

Bunting --- Matthews --- Marner
Robertson --- Tavares --- Nylander
Engvall --- Kerfoot --- Jarnkrok
ZAR --- Kampf --- NAK

Steeves --- Holmberg --- Malgin
McMann --- Abruzzese --- Gaudette
Clifford --- Douglas --- Simmonds
Blandisi --- SDA --- Anderson
Doubt all of those guys will be on the Marlies roster at once. But if they were, that would surely be the best AHL team in the league

I like it, and I got McMann and Malgin drawing in for Engvall and Tavares while they’re out, tho not sure how those lines would look exactly

Leafs experimenting in the preseason is more about D pairings ,and player capabilities rather than building a Muzzin -- Rielly pairing.

Mark Giordano and TJ Brodie was a successful pairing in Calgary so if the Leafs want to try this pairing together than what is left?. Brodie has NHL experience on his off side.,

Justin Holl and Liljegren are the only RHD in the organization and Timothy is hurt, Sandin is a 3rd pairing guy and so is Holl.

So process of elimination what is left?

1st pair: Rielly ------ Muzzin (pairing) ???
2nd pair: Giordano --- Brodie
3rd pair: Sandin ------ Holl
Liljegren (injured)

Leafs only have 1 healthy RHD and they might need to trade Holl to become cap complaint.
Bradon Schneider would look SO good on that right side for the next 6 years or so

I’m really happy to see Robertson producing. He’s going to be a key part moving forward, especially on ELC. We need to find a way to utilize that shot on the Power Play in the season.

To be honest, I think Robertson will be the guy sent down. Naturally because its a game of asset management and we'd rather retain Malgin than lose him over waivers. Robertson is not eligible for waivers and I think its a business move that'll be made early on.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him with the Marlies after our injury situation is sorted out.

Robertson able to be sent to the minors hurts his chances for opening night IMO.

For the sake of player retention and depth I think he goes down initially so we don't have to expose a forward and risk losing them.

If players like Brooks, Boyd and Vesey got claimed I can only imagine what will happen.

There are going to be a ton of players put on waivers, I think it pretty presumptive to think a Malgin gets picked up. Build on the Robertson momentum, concerning ourselves with some dime a dozen journeyman seems short sighted.

I hear what you’re saying. But with Tavares going on IR, we will have an extra roster spot (not cap relief yet) but IR players don’t count towards your 23 players. I think he stays initially until Tavares is back and then he’s down until they can trade someone. He’s better than anyone who is waiver eligible. I could also see the leafs trading Joey Anderson to avoid losing him to waivers

I haven't seen Stralman play in years but I see that he played some heavy minutes on a bad AZ team last year. For 1 year would it make sense to move Holl and sign Stralman to play the same role? Save 1.2-1.3 million.

Anderson has just looked so blah to me. I wonder if he has any trade value at all.

I got laughed at on here when I suggested the Leafs should have taken the reported 2nd round pick offer for Johnsson over taking Anderson. I understand the thought process with Anderson being closer to the NHL at the time but he hasn't shown anything so far in this pre-season.

Robertson’s breakthrough camp, awesome. I know some were getting down on him, but with that internal motor and pro caliber shot, he’s the epitome of patience.
"Play the Kids"

Robertson is having a strong camp with results to be pushing for a opening day roster spot.

He has an NHL shot and release and its working for him here.

I think that Malgin will start with the Leafs because of his cheaper salary and the fact he's leading the team in preseason scoring and goals (tied with Nick). Injuries are an ongoing concern, so possibly losing Malgin to a waiver claim doesn't seem like good asset management. Remember that Nick has an injury history too.....so imagine waiving Malgin, him getting claimed, and the Robertson going down or underperforming.

I believe he (Malgin) will start on the big club, but will have a short leash. Plus it's very possible that with any injury, both could be in the lineup.

Keep the momentum going too, his confidence is sky high, why send him down? Put him on the second line and see what he can do. He’s ready and he’s a valuable part of the organization, Malgin is fine but I’m so whatever about him, certainly not manipulating a roster to ”protect” him. And sure he’s having a good camp, he’s playing a ton, the vets haven’t really be out there much yet, big deal. Like I said at the start, I’m watching the kids at camp, everything else is whatever, it’s pond hockey and hardly instructive.
