Pridham is playing games with the cap and I love it. One way or the other it'll be sorted.

So Robertson can only play until JT is ready then he’ll be sent down and when Liljegren returns something has to give.

Here’s an idea… ship out Kerfoot. Replace him seamlessly with Jarnkrok and keep Robertson and Malgin. Generate cap space while icing the best team… I call that a win/win.

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Robertson-Tavares-Nylander
Engvall-Jarnkrok-Malgin
ZAR-Kampf-Aube Kubel.
Shipping out Kerfoot is certainly a popular idea with some posters.

However, I don't think it's a given that Jarnkrok will 'seamlessly replace' him, or that your lineup is 'the best team'.

If it was that clear-cut, this discussion would have died a long time ago.

Adam Gaudette is a better hockey player then Nic Aube-Kubel.

I think Gaudette will end up being the better player, NAK is a bit more polished right this moment and has a more clear identity.

Gaudette's injury really impacted his camp, he really impressed me.

I also didn't feel like NAK was auditioning internally it seemed like he was a lock for the roster before training camp.

I would be pleasantly surprised if Gaudette clears because I think he could be a nice project

Gaudette probably has more talent and upside but he is getting to the point where he needs to realize it or he never will. His problem is that he doesn't seem to have a lot of awareness. He took a few really bad penalties in preseason and generally just looks like he doesn't understand what to do with his solid, but mostly unspectacular, skill set. He is just like most AAAA forwards we have seen come through Toronto in the past, just with slightly different strengths and weaknesses.

NAK may only be a gritty and speedy 4th liner, but he knows what to do to get the most out what he brings to the table and that makes him a better player than Gaudette... And likely will always be a better player. It doesn't matter if he has worse hands or offensive ability than Gaudette because Gaudette doesn't know how to use his hands or offensive ability to actually produce points.

Public Relations 101: Notice how Dubas and co. made sure to get out a message to the media about trying to accommodate Simmonds with a trade so they wouldn't become the focus of attention.

Let's come back and discuss training camp stuff

I take it Steeves and McMann got sent back to minors?

Kampf and NAK put up strong 3rd line numbers last season. ZAR has put up solid 4th line numbers his entire career. We don't need to worry about the 4th line. It's the 3rd line that worries me the most. That was a big part of why the Leafs lost the first round last season.

BUT

I think Knies and/or Robertson might be the solution to that this year.

That 4th line probably plays more than the so called 3rd, especially Kampf.

Going to be interesting to see how they fair with the Marlies.
McMann had a good year as a rookie, but he was 25 years old.
Justin Holl did have a late start, and while he's not a favorite he is an NHL player.
McMann showed well at camp but you're right, he's on the older side for a prospect.

I expect Steeves to have a big year with the Marlies and force his way into the Leafs lineup by next season. All of my viewings of him last season with the Marlies were very impressive. Could be a guy that replaces Engvall when he gets traded or walks as a UFA at the end of the season.

I'm guessing Liljegren LTIR

Holmberg, Villa and Robertson down if JT healthy.

Surprised there's a chance JT can play in the opener, don't wanna push through the oblique injury. We can weather the storm early and need him healthy.

So yeah the big news from those practice lines is:

1. Tavares is ready to go
2. Robertson is getting sent down so that Malgin can get a look before risking him on waivers.
