If that's mostly muscle he'll be way better on his feet and in the corners.

For what it's worth the majority of his Instagram stories he posted over the summer were of him squatting lol.

He's always been quite strong pound for pound. But I wouldn't ever expect his speed to be noticeably better. More likely that he gets better at positioning to minimise opportunities for guys to outskate him wide.

Not a fan. Large guys that play small I have no use for.
I'm a fan of players who are effective.

It will be muscle for sure... let's just hope that this doesn't slow him down any, as he wasn't really quick enough to begin with.

Yeah but like another guy was saying it's positioning. He's quick enough to avoid getting beat alot if he works on that.

Can you believe Luke Schenn is still in the league?

I think he actually made a change when the Ducks demoted him and he played in the AHL.
Not sure what weight he's playing at now, but he was never fast nor quick.

For Sandin, it really is about making sure he is quick, even if never fast.

Me as well. Not saying he’s not effective just wish he brought more.

I get it.. a mean Engvall would be great..

He’s already show he can throw a hit, if he’s added some girth, be fascinating to see if it translates.

For sure... that could be a positive... as the person you quote suggested, better in the corners, and hopefully in front of the net too.

Engvall-Kampf-Jarnkrok would maybe be the other line in that set up.

So basically with Tavares out the other 3 centers each get bumped up a line.

Which means Holmberg seems to be getting close to earning first dibs to fill in for Tavares on the roster.

Also, these lines might mean Nick has vaulted past Malgin for that last winger spot.
Another way to look at it might be Malgin has won a spot. They are now battling for the 2nd line

Sandin can survive being slow. Thats not a huge issue. Stronger should be his goal and thats what it looks like he is trying to get too

Engvall returns and back on his normal place.
Off topic, Marlies are going to have a deep and exciting forward group with or without Robertson.
Losing Dahlstrom hurts on defence but there is depth to compensate

Lets not overthink this. Engvall is 100% on the team as he should be. He's a good player who can play 3rd line or middle 6.

Engvall is a player I have marked down for a breakout season

He's much more polished now and I think he's ready to take the next step. I would argue he should be on the second line as he provides much needed size, good retrivel and defensive awareness

Taking the two groups today, and putting together the lines...

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Robertson-Kerfoot-Nylander
Aston-Reese-Holmberg-Aube-Kubel
Engvall - Kampf - Anderson
Gogolev-Gaudette-Malgin
McMann - SDA - Steeves
Clifford - Shaw - Simmonds
Abruzzese - Douglas - Ellis
Slaggert, Blandisi

Rielly-Brodie
Giordano-Holl
Muzzin-Sandin
Kral-Mete
Kokkonen - Hollowell
Rifai - Villeneuve
Pietroniro - Hoefenmayer
Hellickson - Miller

Murray
Samsonov
Kallgren
Ferguson

I kinda doubt that tbh.

It could also be a way of easing both Muzzin and Sandin into the line-up until they're up to speed.

Yeah likely.

The pairs as listed today lack the kind of matchup pairing that Keefe has always relied upon in the past, whether that was muzzin-holl or then muzzin-brodie.

It's possible he's going with 3 balanced pairs this year but I doubt it.

Seems like moving Sandin over is his first choice. I don't I agree but what do I know.

But it does mean that sandin and Lilly will be split up.

I would guess the most likely set up is going to be going back to the Muzz-Brodie matchup pair, reunite Gio-Lilly, and then try Mo-Sandin again, even though it was an awful pairing in the brief time we tried it last year.

Malgin strikes me as someone that is having a good pre-season but will fizzle out pretty quickly once the season starts.

I hope I'm wrong.
It's not like he's coming out of nowhere. He does have 200 career NHL games, and has only improved over the last couple of years. He's not a perfect player by any means, but it wouldn't be a shock if he belongs in the NHL
