Their first overall pick: spends an extra 3 hours a day ripping pucks after practice, refinig his craft and building his endurance

Our first overall pick: will be a top 10,000 player in pokemon go by the end of October

Their first overall pick: has the hands of an angel, the edges of a freshly forged katana, and the shot of a navy seal sniper

Our first overall pick: has the goatee of a pervert, the body of phil kessel and the work ethic of a walrus with morbid obesity
Literally lol'd, sounds like something Kocur would say

Gotta admit that its kind of hilarious that after a lot of people complaining about how we never see any evidence about Laf putting in the work, we get a report that you literally cannot drag Bedard off the ice after practice. Its real. Valiquette alluded to it.
The opposite of "The luck of the Irish" has to be "The luck of the Rangers". I never thought it would be so specific.

Am I the only one who is totally fine with this team looking like complete dogshit in the preseason? I much prefer it to looking amazing and getting everyones hopes sky high and also peaking early.

I might remind all, it's a LONNG season. Getting hot towards the end of it is what you want. Lavi has a track record of his first season being pretty damn good when he takes over a team. We may see growing pains early, thats fine by me as long as momentum picks up and takes us into the post season.

It’s a long season. Some teams think the right approach is try to win every game. Some teams think the right approach is to just make the playoffs and try to peak in the last quarter of the season. And some teams think that the only way to do #2 is to strive for #1.

Even worse when you then remember that we sold low on Buch to make sure KK and Krav had room on that side...

What's even worse is that Krav had bread keeping him close to him and mentoring him. Kakko didn't get any of that shit except 9 games next to Zib and Kreids.

That f*ck up is on Gallant. Buch never should've been traded, we never should've signed troch. We're a better team with dealing with Chytils growing pains at 2C. Should've kept Buch and brought in a cheap 3C.

That trade will bother me forever, or as long as Buch is a superstar in the league.

Off topic a bit but is anyone else really concerned about the fact that Chytil seemingly can't stay healthy? I mean can we commit long term to him when this contract is done? Imo with Trochek signed long term are we looking at moving him before his next contract, it kinda feels like that should be a possibility. I'm doubful we can count on him yearly for 82 games and a playoffs.

I'll go a step further. If we get off to a 2-4 start or something, it doesn't mean we should fire the coach and blow up the roster. Just getting out ahead of the usual hysteria

Hes in year 1 of a 4 year deal at a manageable number, thinking about what his extension is going to look like might as well be eons from now. I would like him to stay more healthy though...

I don’t really care or mind if that’s the plan either.

I’m just failing to see why losing Brodz on waivers (if they do) is such a big deal. It’s not hard to find another one on waivers

The players we might lose on waivers if Othmann and Cuylle make the team:

Brodzinski
Pitlick
Bonino

None of these I would consider a loss. They're replacement level players. You find these on the waiver wire all the time.

I think if you push hard enough a # 2 will come, it won’t be easy and everyone will have to grip their sticks a bit harder

Outta curiosity does anything think Vesey could be odd man out or 13th forward? Interestingly enough last two days of lines...

10/2
Panarin - Zibanejad - Kakko
Kreider - Trocheck - Othmann
Laffy - Goodrow - Wheels (Figure Chytil woulda been center here)
Vesey - Bonino - Pitlick
Extra: Cuylle + Brodzinksi

10/3
Panarin - Z - Kakko
Kreider- Trocheck - Wheeler
Cuylle - Goodrow/Chytil - Pitlick
Vesey - Bonino - Othmann
Extra: Laffy + Brodzinski

It's an easy line up to piece together should both Cuylle and Othmann get sent down to minors...
Should one of them make the line up and obviously it's not for 4th line minutes, I'm curious how these players shake out.

Goodrow, Bonino, Pitlick, Vesey. One would think Goodrow & Bonino are set to anchor 4th line...seems to be a Vesey vs Pitlick battle, but only if Cuylle or Othmann force their way on.

Brodz and Pitlick im not sure they'd have a problem with losing.

Bonino on the other hand - you dont identify a player like him, bring him in as a free agent and then put him on waivers

I agree hes replaceable but I dont see Drury thinking that

Heres the thing...

They haven't.... really looked like dogshit? They've clearly been the better team in 3 of the 4 games they've played and at the very least, pushed hard to close the one game where they did look like ass for most of it.

Pre season is generally meaningless though. Vets are just going through the motions and getting their bodies ready, fringe guys are busting their ass trying to make an impression, etc. I've seen enough hockey to know that there are guys who get white hot during pre season and don't even end up sticking on an NHL roster for an entire season. Kreider was absolute f***ing ass cheeks during the pre season 2 years ago (he's sucked again this one but this is common for him during the PS) and then he went on to score 52 goals when the games actually mattered.

I keep Bonino just so he can be the #1PK/matchup guy. take some off of Mika's plate.

I'm 100% ok with our 4C being really role specific

Also, as has been mentioned before, the center depth within the organization right now is not great. Much deeper at wing
We are currently 3 deep at the nhl level, and Mika is the oldest… we have years to develop a center prospect slowly.
We should be deeper at wing, since we have more roster spots and Kreider will slow down and wheeler is likely a 1 year stopgap.

@mas0764 doesn't know what to do with himself.

p.s. I don't care what Dom says.

Nah I am too and like I said I think it was a huge reason why the Rangers signed Trochek and didn't trust Chytil to be healthy enough to carry the load as 2C, especially since he has a habit of getting injured and then coming back slowly once he's back in the lineup. He so far has not proven reliable enough to be relied upon in that spot.

funny that rangers being "deep" on D is basically them just adding Gustafsson

The model isn't crazy if the Rangers players all get going the way that they can and play together as a team etc etc. Even with a "crappy" year last year where they looked disjointed for a long time they had 107 points

Our perception on the team is a bit colored by the flop in the playoffs but they have a lot of talent and have generally outscored and goaltended their deficiencies. The hopeful next step is the new coaching staff getting them to play a more structured game with a consistent effort they can take into the playoffs

I'm actually optimistic about this season. This team is constructed better than the one we started last year with minus Quick, though Halak started off terrible last year too, the good thing is Garand is available if need be so thats a plus too.

yeah despite the doom and gloom that's usual around here, I think there's a real chance for the rangers to take a step this year and get somewhere. They'll probably need to learn how to defend against NJ along the way though as I'm not sure they'll ever be the puck control team like Carolina is that is going to become NJ's bane and probably prevent them from coming out of the east at some point
