I'm not worried about Mika or Trochek. Part of it is by need/center depth but also part will get the message from Lav soon. They won't be perfect but they'll be fine.

Panarin hasn't been his usual happy go lucky smile and winking self this entire preseason. Lav was pushing him in practice and then he's day to day. The problem is, I don't think he has it in him to get to where Lav wants. He's moping. He was terrible last night, more so than Trochek or Laf. I think he's going to want out. This situation will be very similar to Torts/Gaborik from ten years ago, only it goes down next TDL due to length, cap hit, space the league will have.

To bring up more history, Quick is going to last about six weeks. He's finished. It's going to be Biron/Pavelec and Talbot/Georgiev all over again. Probably on that Alberta trip (and just because I'm there!), he's going to be embarrassed in whatever game he plays and Garand is up by jut before Thanksgiving.

Laf has had a brutal training camp. There's still time. It's not looking good though. There's a good chance he goes the way of Alexander Daigle who by all accounts had a decent NHL career and no one remembers the later part when he become a decent checking forward for Jacques Lemaire in Minnesota, but nowhere near a star. If he wants to prevent getting dealt he just needs to work hard and keep moving his feet, which is his biggest issue.

i think its great that a coach of this team has final called out their lackluster attitude. They show up like they have won the cup the last four season and they have won nothing. Honestly tired of the lazy tendancies of Mika, Panarin and Kreider. Because they are veterans and team leaders it does carry over to the ypunger players and think its a detriment to the team and development. I think of the leadership core Kreider, Mika, Panarin, Goodrow and Trouba everyone bitches about Trouba and Goodrow wanting them out but they are the two that honestly care the most. Its time that Mika, Kreider and Panarin get heat for not showing up to play

The vets need to lead by example. If they are working hard they are setting the precedent.
Most of the core vets in this group are soft and mellow. I'd say Goodrow is an exception. Kreider has his moments but he's not going to threaten to steal your lunch money a la Meesier.

That's why they brought in guys like Bonino and Wheeler.

Gorton's biggest fault was the emotional intelligence for the locker room. JD's been consistently terrible at it. Ironically, the guys Drury has drafted all are a little saltier, they're just super young.

I'm not worried about the vets in preseason. What I am worried about is the backup goalie we signed who pretty much everyone already thought is washed up is looking even worse than washed up and the #1 overall pick who really needs to show he's a difference maker this season is coasting and looking lost in preseason.
Quick is not making in through this season.

I have always been a big CK fan but I have not liked his effort at times. The irony is he scored less goals in years that he played harder. The effort our guys gave in last years playoffs was so bad. I think Drury values players with motors and that shows in his drafts. I think Lav is a good coach but I'm concerned about some of our players commitments.

Well, this is exciting. Peter Laviolette will be playing for Hartford.

Is this now the 3rd roster name gaffe with this team? I think the job requirement should include knowing the team. It's pretty embarrassing.

Edit: As @mike14 pointed out to me there is a Jr, who was in the ECHL and now is with the Pack...

Larry Brooks basically said that this is the last year this current incarnation gets a shot. Next season the cap goes up and the NMCs start to change.

It doesn't mean that all of Panarin, Trouba, etc. are going to be shipped out Phil Esposito style, but one by one they'll be on notice.

I'll try and be careful and subtle with my words. It's social media, they're going to hire some bubbly blonde right out of college or give them the opportunity over someone in their late 20s/early 30 who knows every player's career stats from the Craig Patrick Era. Or it's some dumb kid who is family friends with Ortmeyer. That's the way of the world.

Lafreniere has finished the season faster than he started it each of his 3 years here, so I think that's always worth mentioning.

And we'll just find another backup if Quick "Birons" out at the start of the year

I'm not a Larry fan but that makes sense. Lav is a real coach. He will know who is for real and who is not. If he sees guys mailing it in Drury may chose to make some changes sooner than expected.

You have to move out the dead weight.

I love Panarin. I want him to succeed here but if he has another repeat Playoffs of the past 2 years, he has to go.
"Who's gonna replace his point totals?" Zegras or Pettersson.

I like Trouba. Alarm bells are going off though. He's 30. I'm a better skater than him and he's getting even more stiff. He needs to be moved. Need to bamboozle a dumb GM.

I literally cannot overstate how little these games mean for anyone who isn’t on the bubble. Year after year we see preseason play not translate to regular season play for tons and tons of players in the league. I know it’s the only thing going on and people love to point out anything that appears to support their preconceived notions but this is really not important, folks.

I still dont understand the worry with Lafreniere from most people... He's making 2.3M. Worst case scenario, he's a 3LW and produces well for that spot.

Lets forget draft status and move on. I get our expectations were way off.

The biggest issue for this team will continue to be the big money players. This teams success does not hinge on Lafreniere. I do not know why the onus is put on him.

I get that.... but why do other teams top players seem to play well?

what other team stars struggle or look like ours in pre-season? I'm being honest when I ask that question.

Then we need to fill that top-6 RW spot. Most likely it will be Kakko, but obviously it annoys people when he's not there already becaise Laf is trying to learn things.

is blondie a pawg and does she have her own OF page? a phub page would be much better. i'm a
cheap bastard.

bern too busy to contribute regularly for at least another wk or so min, but quick rant to say again, bern is right, Drury is wrong, usually, and it is inexcusable to lose a guy w/possible upside like Emberson for nothing when it was a totally unforced, unnecessary and avoidable misstep. Jones is an actual bust, Could have given him away for less than the 3rd we invested. Additional paths were an option. But NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, we had to give up a decent prospect on our right side, where we are thin, for nothing, b'c some idiot thought it was ok to slip him thru waivers.

BEYOND STUPID
regardless of what Ty Emb does/does not amount to.

hope to be back in a wk-ish
Lol, Emberson sucks.
