Laf could have had 3 or 4 points if we could have finished, but some just want to continue with the hate. They would rather see him fail so they could feel good about being right.Pretty pathetic

Well this is true for like Jovo and 2 other people.

The rest are mostly notorious flip floppers or think everything is doomed.

On the flip side, Jones deserves to be not only on this team, but also get the reps 5v5 and as PP2 QB. The kid is smart with the puck. He's a smart player. He's got great vision and great instincts offensively. Defensively he's good positionally. He's not going to bully anyone and he doesn't need to. That first pass out the zone his transition game, knowing when to pinch, he's got all that. We need that. We don't need to be wasting time with a scrub vet in that spot when we have a potential budding impactful offensive defenseman with smarts on our hands. But, Rongos will Rongo so I won't be surprised when they f*** this one up too.
I'd put him over Trouba in PP2, no question.

No one seems to be talking about him but I wouldn’t count out Belzile making this team and being a pretty solid 4th liner

I think some people might be setting themselves up for disappointment regarding Cuyyle this year. Not even sure he’s the best 13th forward yet at this point in his development.

Fans and media alike are doing a wonderful job of getting the expectations way out of wack for this kid

Wheeler in the top 6 all season is going to be an issue, he is going to burn out. Putting two guys that struggle to finish on a line with a player that only passes will be interesting to say the least. Wheeler hasn't scored 20 since covid (don't want to hear about pacing for with a 37 year old, injuries are inevitable and his career high for goals is 28 in 2014).

Jones can be an NHL player and he will get some reps here but no team is winning a cup with two 5-9 or 5-10 lightweight d men like fox and Jones. Jones is just a worse version of Fox, but we have the best version already. He's redundant and while he may be passable in the first half of the season I think he will get eaten alive in the last quarter and players BASED on the role he would play her since his role in reality should be a guy you shelter a bit 5v5 so he can run your pp1.

First Mika, now Fil and Bread. It’s been less than a week….

Biting my tongue pretty hard but I have thoughts…

The only regulars that Trouba should see PP time over on D are Lindgren & Schneider. Whichever of Gustafson or Jones is in should be locked in as PP2 QB
Or Miller even. Kam skillset is better from a modern pp then trouba. Trouba's main assets on the pp was to be a shot threat from the point but that's gone the wayside with how modern pps operate and the fact he shots like Fulton Reed (1 out of 5)

I can't read this, and thank God for that, but the title of this article is ridiculous. Cuylle will never, and should never be a heavyweight. He's a good fighter when he needs to be but he has much more skill than that.

Mika is already back on the ice.

Panarin had the same thing happen during his first camp here. When guys dont skate for a while, groins get sore.

No one is going to press players to play when they're a bit dinged up this early in the game. Its how minor shit becomes nagging shit.

It's because for 3 years we have heard "laf could have had X points if..."

It's not hate, it's a trend with a long runway...

This just isn't accurate. Wheeler averaged 17 minutes a game last year and put up 55 points in 72 games. Where is this idea that he is some old, decrepit player coming from? If he plays in the top-9 and they evenly distribute ice time @ 5v5, which they probably will, he's going to see 14-15 minutes at ES and then probably 1-2 minutes of PP/SH time. That's in line with what he should be seeing.

You start by saying "this just isn't accurate" and then "argued" with me by not actually disagreeing with anything I said. Weird

You're first sentence says he will 'burn out' if he plays in the top-6. It won't matter top-6 or top-9 as minutes will be evenly distributed but this isn't a guy we need to push to 12 minutes a night. I fail to see him burning out...

Correct, I said if he plays top 6 all year he will burn out on a team that has relied heavily on its top 6 for years in a league that most teams give more PT to its top 6 forwards than the rest (this MAY change w the new coaching staff but we have yet to see that). You then commented about a top 9 role with minutes spread out. I'm not sure how you see a top 6 role playing with panarin or zib as the same thing as a top 9 role which implies 3rd line minutes and occasionally moving up...

I have no hesitation believing that we will see more groin injuries through mid October than we have in the past. It's common for players at the start of the season but it's also evident that they are being pushed to a different pace right now and there will be some mental and physical adjustments to that.

If you look at the actual minute distribution from just last year @ 5v5, you will see that the top-9 pretty much played the same amount of minutes. Where it gets skewed is special teams. So whether he is written down as top-6 or top-9 (which is all arbitrary anyways) it doesn't matter. He should see 14-15 minutes of ES time per game. Perhaps he wont' be on PP1 like he was in WPG so MAYBE he sees closer to 16 minutes a game rather than his 17 last year. Either way, unless he is getting 20+ minutes a game I fail to see 'burn out' as a concern for Wheeler.

Why are we all at eachothers throats after 1 week of camp and 1 preseasn game?

My god...

Lavi has expressed a desire for a shutdown checking line, which is best served with Goodrow/Vesey-Trocheck-Wheeler. IF that is the case, top 9 minutes get distributed out more evenly because this shutdown line will need to play significant minutes to take away matchups for Panarin-Chytil-Kakko/Laf and Kreid-Mika-Laf/Kakko.

The only major changes would be swapped Panarin and Kreider between top 2 lines, or Kakko down to checking line and Wheeler up in top 6...but that wastes Kakko's potential.

Also I am agreeing with the other poster, Wheeler isn't the 91-point guy anymore but I have ZERO idea where this thought of him being 45-year old shell of himself Joe Thornton is coming from....Wheeler can still play impactful top 9 and PP minutes and contribute.

8 of those top 9 forwards will get PP time, with the other 2 spots going to Fox and Jones/Gustafsson. This seems fairly straightforward.

So Zibanejad, Panarin, Chytil are all injured. Interesting. Wonder if this is actually just increased visibility into player health with all the turnover in staff this summer

Rempe has the making of an NHL enforcer. Cuylle not so much. Cuylle doesn't seem to have an issue dropping the gloves but against the toughest fighters in the league he's going to have problems. I don't see him hanging well with MacDermid, Reaves, Lucic, Deslauriers, Johnston or even a guy like Jeannot etc. Rempe might not do great against those same guys either but his size and reach is at least something that would have those guys second guessing. I don't think Rempe's ready to be an NHL player right now though.

That said Laviolette usually has a tough guy or two on his team and I can understand why someone like Cuylle would perk his interest. I don't think it was any accident by the way when Harpur went looking for a fight against Greer the other night. Ben might not have played very well but that was a 'look at me, coach' moment knowing that Peter likes to see shit like that.

Rempe has done great against enforcers in the AHL who are just as big and tough as NHL enforcers... at 20 years old. When he's 22-23 he will be a TERROR. Agreed that he's not NHL ready though.

I know people shit on Harpur but in an ideal world, I'm okay with him as a #7. He plays a very simple game and is okay sitting for long stretches. In the AHL, he's a valuable veteran voice in the locker room as well as providing some muscle in a league that is more physical than the NHL most of the time.

If Cuylle really can turn heads and impress, as we have all discussed more than a few times, he has the unique ability to change the dynamic of the top-9 with his physical play alone.

the problem is that jones and/or gustafson need to be the #7 or they will be plucked off waivers. Unless we can deal Jones.

Agreed here. And I'd be just fine with that being the 7 d-men they carry to start the season. I'm less concerned with Jones getting 40-50 games this year as some others and I think the team may be more cautious with some of their players by the look of things as we move forward. That will mean more games for the #7
