Do you guys want individual GDTs for each pre-season game or just keep the game discussions within this thread?

2022 offseason: "We need Kaliyev in our top six"

I'll believe it when the season starts that way. Until then, they've shown us who they are.

I'll bet you a beer we see Fiala-PLD-Lewis/Lizotte/vet over Kaliyev.
I could see Lizotte with Fiala and PLD. He doesnt have his shot, but he’s a better player than Kaliyev. Between those two he would be good for close to 50 pts.

Todd is the reason that Kaliyev hasn't received more playing time? Try Kaliyev is the reason he hasn't gotten more playing time. It's up to him how far he wants to go this year. He's just too inconsistent in his effort and has been more effective in specialty situations like the PP.
Putting a youthful player in positions that do not suit him is a real easy way for that player to fail. When a youthful player fails under TM they generally get demoted or sat.

You could still count the winger options they had last year and see it was going to be tough to get him in the top 6. They got rid of one coach's favorite, if not two wing options. Since they're starting camp with him alongside Dubois and Fiala, I'm willing to see if he remains. Nobody had Byfield as the every day 1LW, and he was there the entire second half, despite not scoring. Maybe Kaliyev will be used every minute in a scoring role. You never know.

And if Lewis goes there for a game, I don't care. If he's there for 40 games, that's a problem. Unless they're winning games that way, then I don't care.

I think this goes for most coaches, not just TM.

Arty hasn't been handled close to perfectly, but a lot of his issues are on Arty and no one else. Putting young defensemen on the first pairing doesn't usually work either, unless they are a lottery pick, yet that worked for Anderson. Vilardi took a bit to get going but turns out demoting him was the best thing for his development. Every player is a bit different.

There are a lot of excuses being made for Arty, but just tossing him on a scoring line could have easily resulted little or no more development than we've seen with him so far.

No way man, we've done the homework on this before, no need to rehash it. There are PLENTY of teams in the league who put their players in positions to succeed far before they're 22-25.

Agreed that development is different for everyone, but the Kings' handling of ALL their 1st and 2nd round picks for the last decade is questionable at best, if it were JUST Kaliyev, it'd be easier to stomach.

Are you telling me that Kaliyev would have made the line of Kempe and Kopitar better than Byfield did? Byfield is going to be a better player than Kaliyev. There's a reason so many teams passed on Kaliyev at the draft. For him to be better than just a specialty player, he's going to need to learn to play at a high level more consistently. I have no issues sticking him on every PP, but beyond that there have been better options. This isn't a Todd thing.
Other teams find a way to integrate players like this into their lineups, and it's not just bottom feeders. Kaliyev is no Caufield, but there are certainly similarities, and Montreal made a trip to the finals with Caufield being a really big difference maker right out of college at 19 or 20 years old. Kaliyev at 22 with years with multiple years of pro experience should be capable of being a similar player to what CC was when he came in. It's encouraging the Kings are finally putting him in a position to succeed, but with players like this you have to factor in the good and the bad and not just demote him as soon as he makes a defensive gaffe. It's like the Erik Karlsson thing, people here always pointed out and shared videos of the mistakes he made defensively, but didn't consider enough that his offensive play more than made up for it, enough where he will go down in the eyes of most of the hockey world as the best defenseman of the 2010 decade. I'm not saying AK is Erik Karlsson, but the same type of long-game evaluation should occur. Kaliyev is never going to be good defensively, he's never going to be physical , he's never going to be a great skater but he is probably a 95th percentile shooter of the puck league-wide, I watch more hockey than I'm proud to admit and some of the shots he has generated you just don't see many players around the league capable of doing the same. Again, other teams find ways to successfully use players with that type of skill and the Kings need to figure it out, because a player who shoots the puck like that is going to score goals in this league and be a big asset, especially on the PP, whether it's in LA or somewhere else.

As far as passing on him at the draft, NHL teams are terrified of using high picks on goal-scorers who aren't "well rounded" and will hyper focus on their deficiencies instead of focusing on the elite skill they bring to a team that few if any other players in that draft possess. Using this draft and the players already mentioned, there was no way on Earth that Caufield and Kaliyev should have fallen to where they did in that draft, it was highway robbery by the Kings and Montreal. The Kings players they took over Kaliyev fit into the previously described "well rounded" category, but now 4+ years out we can say that well rounded was clearly not better, as neither player the Kings took possess any particular attribute that is going to make them a top 4 d-man or a top-6 forward, and ending up with depth players often happens when you pass on bigtime skill for well rounded. Luckily for the Kings they were able get AK in the 2nd after passing on him in the 1st, but that easily could not have been the case and it would have put the current team in a tougher spot to compete without a finisher like Kaliyev to play with your best distributor.

Kaliyev can't be skating on egg shells and playing scared this year, fearing any mistake puts him with Lizotte and Grundstrom or in the pressbox, and I hope the coaching staff has related to him that they want him to play his game and that they accept that it might lead to a few defensive gaffes along the way as long as he is playing his game and scoring goals.

Not every player has to be a good little reliable checker to make an impact.

That's true, but for every prospect that does work out those same teams have several that don't. The Sens have done great with Stutzle, but they F'd up with Brown, Pinto, Thomson, Docker, and now they have Boucher who is a 10OA playing as an overager. Not defending the Kings but all teams screw stuff up way more than they succeed. The only ones the Sens have hit on are top 5 picks, they are terrible outside of that range.

The point was more that blaming a coach solely for a player's misfortune is taking the onus off the player. We know the Kings have to improve drastically, especially with developing high picks. But it's still the player's job to bring it.

Individual please and thanks for all you do!

I would be interested to know if any video stream is available, like the opposing team since the Kings can't get it together and (proved wrong and therefore deleted)

How many times are you going to say this and how many different ways????

The LA Kings are not Burger King and they have shown 0 indication that they are changing their recipe on how the marinade and slowly flame cook their prospects.

Any other CONSISTENTLY successful teams making development/lineup burgers your way besides a flash in the pan year from an overachieving French Chef?

Stand down Herbies , back away from the keyboard and put your hands up!

I gave you guys the developmental spectrum analysis to offer some clues about Kaliyev , and HF deleted it.

So I can not say more about this unique young man other than GO Arty!

I cannot believe the negative about Kaliyev. He is, and always has, produced very well offensely, at every level he has played at.
Kaliyev averaged .5 ppg this year! He averaged a goal every 4 games!
This in spite of the fact he had a significant injury, limited playing time, limited PP time, and 4th line significant usage.
Are you guys kidding me? He is the first pure scorer this team has drafted in forever. And he fell to us in the draft way too far than we deserved.
IF he stays healthy, plays regular shifts with talented players, and gets regular pp time, Arthur Kaliyev will kill it offensely this season. It is what he is made to do, and is ab elite offensive talent. He must be given the offensive opportunities and utilized to his strengths.

It does appear that KnightTime+ is cheaper than BallySports+

I think you can install that app and if I am right it shows their live broadcast on partner KTNV 13 ABC for free.
Pending verification.
Thank you Jesse.

I was watching the Simpsons tonight with my daughter, so it’s on my mind. I am trying to figure out if you are more Barney, Groundskeeper Willie, Grandpa Simpson or some combination of all 3. I’m not sure I’ll be able to reply to anymore of your posts until google releases a SN update to their translator software.

What is a flash in the in the pan French chef? I’m completely lost. I assumed people just cut the 50mg ones in half and didn’t eat all 4 in the package.
