Another member of the Blake Surf Club. Great.
You know with Thompson, you could say the surf club of:

Boston
Islanders
Lightning
Ducks
Senators
Candiens
Flyers
Jets

Dude's been around. I'll always associate him with TB though.

I don't mind the hire, he was always a good hitter, really good faceoff guy, and was decent defensively. And just because he's not super skilled it doesn't mean he can't teach, a lot of the time middling guys make great coaches.

Guys like this who are brought in don't pull major salaries and almost always get offers from the last team they were with. He ended in Ontario so there you go.

I was watching the Simpsons tonight with my daughter, so it’s on my mind. I am trying to figure out if you are more Barney, Groundskeeper Willie, Grandpa Simpson or some combination of all 3. I’m not sure I’ll be able to reply to anymore of your posts until google releases a SN update to their translator software.

What is a flash in the in the pan French chef? I’m completely lost. I assumed people just cut the 50mg ones in half and didn’t eat all 4 in the package.

Does Kempe have on of the best contracts in the league? No one outside of LA seems to talk about him.
Biz does.

In my opinion JAD, Fagemo, Grundsroom and Moverare should be traded for goalie prospects now, because they will be claimed from wavers anyway.

Turcotte and Doty should be on final roster.
I’d wholly disagree about Grundstrom, but the rest are absolutely waiver or trade fodder.

Nah Grundstrom can actually play hockey and hit.

Doty is just a face puncher. We can get one of those off eBay that can go up and down between Ontario.

Doty can't play. If you contract yourself into the situation where you can't even keep 23 up, no way do you waste a spot on a guy who can't make simple plays.

Respect his work and effort, just not a NHL player.
May as well go ahead and lump Englund into that category though, minus the work and effort part.

This. Doty is a career minor league player and always will be. He's 30 years old and has a very limited skill set. He's often a healthy scratch on the Reign and missed most of last season injured. Englund also ticketed for ONT, he's a 27 year old journeymen D man for a reason. About 80% of his pro career has been in the minors, and it will be again this year (trying to convince people, but it's a hard sell). His two-year poison bill contract was structured to pass through waivers. Gives the organization some depth if needed due to injuries on the left side. Kings will only be able to keep 21 on the NHL roster, likely 13F and 6D with frequent player moves to save on the CAP. They should be able to go to 22 later in the season, but there will be games when the team is short handed and they may change from time to time with 12F and 7D.

If the Kings don't sign or use Doty or play Englund who is going to drop the gloves?

Agreed. Of course, things can change in camp, but I'm not expecting him to become an NHL player at this age.

Englund has managed to look worse than Doty in these games so far.

Sure, there is lots to be talked about there, but my god what a disaster it would be to lose Bjornfot to keep him. Plenty of time left in camp, but its never too early to brace ourselves for another Blake blunder.
I’d sure like to think that the 2nd year tacked onto his contract would be for the purposes of discouraging a waiver claim, and the plan all along was to send him down after camp.

Then again, It is Blake, and there has been one hell of an absence of anything resembling a plan for years now.

Who cares.

They aren't a tough team, they don't have an aggressive coach, their captain settles everything down even when it needs to be ramped up, they are weak along the wall and behind their net, they aren't mentally strong enough to hold leads.

Who cares if one guy punches helmets? This team is soft through and through. I like physicality as much as anyone, but keeping someone who just can't play is a problem. Nothing here will change until Blake, MacLellan and Kopitar are gone. The Kings are a soft touch who win games by outscoring their opponents, and they are easily figured out come playoff time. Lewis is the only new addition that addresses any if their actual weaknesses, and he is too old to make a difference.

Its going to be another up and down year - likely enough ups to make the playoffs, but with the added bonus of us looking forward to seeing a recent top forward pick traded for a goalie late in the year. The model here sucks Johnny, no tough guy is going to make a difference.

This is becoming an issue:

Grundy and Moverare both looked good last night, as did JAD but only on the PP.
Turcotte yes.
Both Doty and Englund have been defensive liabilities at times.
We din't even really need them against the yotes.

Big time and Blake tipped his hand about not using a full roster for cap space.

He needs to scrap that plan until he figures out the roster.

I don't wanna lose Moverare )or anyone really) either he looked more dynamic than Bjornfot.

Blake hoarded all these players for so long and now he is going to lose them for nothing.

Not sure how he finesses this one.

I would almost send down waiver ineligible players like Kaliyev and Byfield if their performance level remains the same.

Even Turcotte and Spence who seem to be earning a spot and Clarke, so as not to lose anyone for nothing.

Until you figure out your roster and try to get something for players you intend to send down that could be lost.

Players you do not want to lose on waivers:

Grundstrom
Bjornfot
Moverare
Copley

Players you do not want to lose for nothing on waivers:

JAD
Fagemo

Players who seemingly could be on the Kings or sent down without waiver exposure:

Clarke
Turcotte
Spence
Kaliyev
Byfield

Save cap space/
Don't lose players for nothing temporary roster

PLD - Kopitar - Kempe
Nice Line
Fiala -Byfield - Grundstrom
JAD - Lizotte -Fagemo

MA - Spence
Moverare - Gavri
Bjornfot - DD

Talbot
Rittich
Copley- carried as extra player until you decide which one to send down that you don't sweat losing.
Copley's contract is the most expensive GT
