I dont think its the vision personally. He makes lots of subtle nice plays.

Its hard to know though. Hes just a very weird player to try and assess.

I just dont think hes coordinated. Its like his hands/feet/brain arent in sync. Whether it ever improves though, who knows.
And his skating style is real ugly!

So it’s looking like our opening day roster could be:

Kane - McDavid - Yamamoto
Hyman - Draisaitl - Puljujarvi
RNH - McLeod - Holloway

And then 2 of Janmark/Ryan/Foegele with Malone.

Nurse - Ceci
Kulak - Bouchard
Broberg - Barrie
Samorukov or Murray

Campbell
Skinner
Personally, I'd have Hyman-RNH on the 3rd line. Those two always look great together and to have a 3rd line that good with two elites driving the top two lines makes the Oilers infinitely more dangerous. It's almost like three #1 lines really or at least two #1's and a #2.

I also like the Yamamoto/Puljujarvi switch. Never understood the love that several coaches now have for the Drai/Yamamoto pairing, it just doesn't fit IMO. I think Yamamoto would be more effective on a higher paced, higher chaos line with McDavid and I could see Pulju being better on a line that emphasizes cycle and winning battles down low so I like the combos. Not sure who I'd put on Drai's LW, maybe something like.,..

Kane-McDavid-Yamamoto
McLeod-Draisaitl-Puljujarvi
Hyman-RNH-Foegele
Janmark-Ryan-Virtanen?

I think Holloway starts in the A but I could see him being a good fit on either the Drai or RNH lines. Man, what a tasty forward group that is especially if Holloway is ready to make an impact.

I think we could have Foegele and Ryan on the roster at the same time, but it would mean our 7th D has to go down so you probably only do that when the schedule is not so tight that you can't recall the extra in case of an emergency. So like if you have a schedule where you have a day or two off in between games and you'd rather have Ryan and Foegele both in, you probably can do it then and send one of the D down temporarily. When you have a stretch of back to back games or a tighter number of games you change back, you gotta have the extra D-Man in case and one of Foegele or Ryan have to come out.

I like the chances of at least one of our young guys pretty substantially outperforming expectations.

These guys aren’t 18-19 year olds going straight from the draft to the roster. Plus the team has good depth and the ability to go with many different configurations. We have the ability to slot them in to suitable positions playing with good players.

Holloway for example has the type of game that can fit up and down a lineup, it’s unlikely but possible he fights his way into top 6 but they don’t absolutely need that from him. He’d probably do well as 3W with RNH at C facing other teams bottom 6 or maybe he ends up on a kid 4th line with McLeod or on the 4the line with a reliable guy like Janmark and a vet like Ryan. Lots of options for the kid. Same with Broberg, even better that he seems comfortable playing both sides but they have lots of options to play him with reliable veteran partners and adjust his ice time and competition as needed.

Seems like we barely get any news about these last 2 days of training camp. Dead thread.

I remember one year in the Decade of Darkness where they served us a free pancake breakfast and gave us lower bowl seating right up against the glass for training camp. Can still remember seeing Ryan Whitney's face go sliding along the glass in front of me...

Perhaps Jay Woodcroft is aiming for as sterile a hype environment as possible to remove all distractions.

I liked his comment about how he's not looking to burying anyone on the first day, but I just watched a bunch of videos of Torts bag skating the Philadelphia Flyers during their first skate, so it stuck out to me

I apologize for anything bad i've ever said about Woody in the past. Guy is an absolute gem and i'm stoked that he's our Head Coach and not some over the hill Dinosaur
