JP isn't gonna have the luxury of dumping it as much without McD to chase ut down.

Gonna be interesting to see if he can/figures out he actually has to handle the puck for extended periods.

Hopefully he does that this year

I mean Drai and Hyman are hard on the puck too ... he'll do fine, Draisaitl is also one of the best players in the world.

I always wonder with him if him that tries to get rid of the puck so soon, or coaches/teammates who are telling him to move the puck quick.

The narrative by a couple on here is that coaches instructed him not to handle it....but here we are, JP saying he needs to.

So yet again, we know that was bs

He's huge and he skates well so if he can draw opposing players closer to him by holding onto the puck longer it can create a lot of openings.

Biggest problem with Jesse has been the next step of having the vision to hit the open guy, the guts to drive the net, or the hands to get a good shot away. If he learns to do any of those consistently he'll have a great year.

THIS is JP basically. If he can improve on some of those other things, he is having a monster year

I like those lines. Hyman and Jesse can help Draisaitl's puck possession game. Kane-McD-Yamamoto was very dominant in the time they spent together:

192:43 mins, gf/60 5.3 ga/60 2.8 xgf/60 3.65 xga/60 2.36
I feel like Yamo gets into open spaces, because Kane's size, physicality and goal scoring threat and McDavid's being a miracle on skates, the defenders can lose track of Yamo.

The top-6 of

Kane - McDavid - Yamo
Hyman - Draisaitl - Puljujarvi

That will be effective and difficult to deal with.

The lines look great. I want to see Puljujarvi with Draisaitl for an extended stretch to see if they can develop serious chemistry. Plus, the size of all three players (including Hyman) makes it a large line with a mix of skill and physicality. And Yamamoto works much better with McDavid. I like Woody's thinking here.

When he gets himself situated correctly, JP can really shoot the puck and with Draisaitl's vision, that might really click.

I dont think its the vision personally. He makes lots of subtle nice plays.

Its hard to know though. Hes just a very weird player to try and assess.

I just dont think hes coordinated. Its like his hands/feet/brain arent in sync. Whether it ever improves though, who knows.

I've wanted Puljujarvi on Drai's wing for two years now.

So it’s looking like our opening day roster could be:

Kane - McDavid - Yamamoto
Hyman - Draisaitl - Puljujarvi
RNH - McLeod - Holloway

And then 2 of Janmark/Ryan/Foegele with Malone.

Nurse - Ceci
Kulak - Bouchard
Broberg - Barrie
Samorukov or Murray

Campbell
Skinner

That 3rd line could be really spicy. McLeod and Holloway have so much speed, I want to see them together.

Hold onto puck more. Gee, i took beatings for saying that
Lol. It's true, he one touches too often (decent touches though). Doesn't hold and doesn't try to make a more impactful play. Could be a matter of risk assessment, if he turns over the puck instead of giving it to Connor it'd look worse on him. Atleast he's noted it and will work on it.

Will still hold onto my thinking the Oil run the 3 centre spine with McD, Drai and RNH. Winger depth is getting better and I still think Holloway slots in at 3W. Had Foegele at 4W or moved but 3RW might provide a fresh start. Puljujarvi might be a good fit with a more traditional centre like Draisaitl while Yamamoto perhaps better able to read and react with McDavid's unique slasher style. McLeod will grow his minutes (and impact) with increasing PK time. Maybe also move up at times to 3W if/when Holloway or Foegele falter.

Kane-McDavid-Yamamoto
Hyman-Draisaitl-Puljujarvi
Holloway-RNH-Foegele
Janmark-McLeod-Ryan

I think we'll see the Atomic Stack more than anticipated as a strategy for certain teams and in-game situations. Centre-wing versatility is a major competitive advantage and there's finally enough quality support depth for RNH to pilot a strong counter attack second line. A developing McLeod can stretch out a decent third line attack unit.

Draisaitl-McDavid-Kane
Hyman-RNH-Puljujarvi
Holloway-McLeod-Yamamoto
Janmark-Ryan-Foegele

There's not a lot of runway (or cap space) for Virtanen to make this team in camp. If he's inclined, I can prospectively see a cheap NHL 2-way deal with a 1/4 season in Bako to reset himself into a bottom six crash and bang bottom six with power forward game.
