GDT: Training Camp 2022

Main camp begins on Thursday, first game is on Sunday vs WPG. It feels like the gap between camp starting and the first game gets smaller every year.

And meanwhile, regular season somehow seems to get pushed back later and later.

I still remember the late 2000's when the start of the regular season was right around the first 5-7 days of October. Now we've got to wait until October 12th for our first regular season game this year.

Don't get me wrong, I know that preseason is important for chemistry, conditioning, and final cuts. But how much is too much?

The Covid pushed schedule, it'll take a while to normalize as they don't want to cut too much on the offseason in one year.

To be fair, the league did end a couple weeks late due to COVID which pushed the draft and free agency back.

I think Broberg is gonna have to blow the doors off if they keep him over potentially losing Samurai to Waivers.
I didnt realize that about Sammy. Now that I look at it, he was drafted in 2017 so ELC is up

I wonder who the surprise of the camp is this year? Do we have a Ty Rattie in there. When u look at Rattie's stats in junior, he put up big numbers. Just didnt carry over to the show

I hope we have ZERO Ty Ratties on this years roster.

I could easily be wrong but I believe the later regular season start is to accommodate the teams that go over to Europe to play. I think that only started 5 years ago? Prior to that most teams started the first week of October barring scheduling conflicts.

Ceci (hamstring) and Savoie (unknown) will miss the start of camp. Koekkoek (mental health) and Smith (failed physical) out indefinitely. I assume Klefbom is also on the latter list, but he wasn't specifically mentioned.

I liked what Ken Holland said about how players won’t just be gifted spots just because they were drafted high or because they want more minutes. They have to earn them and be consistently good on the ice, in the gym etc.

Would be a nice keepsake for any player to have. I would keep it forever. Like a yearbook but more special. Nice touch. Even as a fan I'm sure these would sell to a lot of people and especially family and friends of players. What a great thing to show your grand kids 40yrs later. "I played with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl" Tell them while bs ing over a campfire. None of them believe you, whip out the book.

Those would be awesome to be able to buy as a fan

There are very few things I would purchase any more. As much as I love the Oilers the only way I like to support them is through my extremely expensive cable bill. And maybe once a year a ridiculously overpriced live game.

I think I would buy those yearly. Both players and prospects all lined out neatly with some commentary and maybe a few articles tossed in. Nice Oiler logo on the front.

I cant say for sure but that looks like a good purchase for me. Id read it a few times and tuck it away on a bookshelf as a collection which I would go back to every now and then.

I love collectables tho. I still have stacks of tickets from when my grandfather was a season ticket holder in the 80s

Too bad about Ceci, hopefully he's ok. Hope Savoie is as well.

He also kinda called out the kids, he doesn't seem change in the top-6, so if you want the spot, you have to go and really get it.
That was good to hear. Dude is not caring about how you look 3 years from now. He wants to win NOW

Anyone know if the preseason games will be available to watch in the US? I can see the kraken game will air on Monday on the Seattle sports channel ROOTS but can't find out where to watch Sunday's game...
