HIPAA only applies to health care providers, though, so if the friend is not in health care, they are not violating that particular law (though there could be confidentiality agreeements or other laws). Just want to clarify that, as it is a misconception.

if you have access to patient information and share that information you are in violation. Now, being Zib doesn't have Covid it's not really a violation although anybody with access to patient info is under the guidlines. As far as i know, anybody within healthcare these days has to be certified.

if this info came from within the Rangers, well, he doesn't have Covid so i don't see anything wrong with that. If the same source announced everybody on the team is cancer free the source didn't violate the whole team. We know everybody on the team has been tested for Covid. It's not a secret.

I think Tony is being punished honestly this is The Rangers handling things internally.

they got way to short a look.

unless they think Miller is the run away option to play with trouba which they haven’t been able to even see yet

I think he's just not a defensive defenseman and has no business playing against the best in the league. He's fine playing sheltered minutes vs 3rd and 4th lines and killing it offensively.

Punished for what?

It applies to anyone who works for a healthcare provider. If they’re IT for a healthcare provider they still fall under the law.
i work for an emr, and get to have yearly training on HIPPA.

He could be negative with symptoms still. And since he still could have symptoms he’s avoiding his team. All you have to do is read between the lines. The fact he said inching closer leads me to believe it’s most likely COVID related. But the fact of the matter remains the same. No one can be certain wether it’s a injury or illness.
The concussions are the only thing that makes me nervous about extending him. But that can happen to anyone. He’s a great player and He’s one of my favorite players.

If Mika is sitting out due to anything even potentially related to Covid (ie symptoms / exposure but still testing negative or NYS quarantine) why would they allow him in the facility? That doesn’t make sense at all.

He may be cleared now but they don't want to throw him into a scrimmage situation right away.

Or maybe he pulled an ass muscle getting his luggage off the plane.

Coaches in the NHL are adverse to radical change and will often revert back to standard operating procedure after even just one notable error.

So ADA's leash in terms of experimenting on the left side of the ice was always going to be tenuous, and subject to change. I wouldn't read into it.

Edit- too late. I guess every time his role changes we have to read waaay too much into it.

Maybe skirting a line here but it is potentially spilling over into hockey as well...

DeAngelo publically deactivated his twitter account and said he's moving to Parler when twitter banned Trump. Several writers have asked the Rangers about it and it has raised concerns again that his social media presence can be a distraction to the team. The Rangers have said they'll handle it internally.

It's less about the politics of it and more about the distraction he causes. I'm sure most of the NHL shares his politics to some extent but if it starts becoming a distraction then the team is going to take issue.
And this is why I've been saying since 2019 that he's a goner as soon as Lundkvist earns a spot. I couldn't care less about his political beliefs. It's how outspoken he is on social media about it. Even off the ice and on social media, Tony represents the Rangers. Corporations and teams don't want to be on one "side" of any issue, especially when it comes to something as nuclear as the current state of American politics. MSG and Rangers ownership, whom are probably as meticulous with their public image as any other team out there, are especially privy to this, I'm sure.

Fox played at a first pairing level in his rookie season. Trouba is going nowhere with that contract. Lundkvist on the way on an ELC if he's not dealt. Politics aside, DeAngelo is the odd man out. He's in a position where he can garner something really, really nice in a trade.

This is not what teams do if there's an off-ice distraction and they say they'd deal with this internally.

Reasons why NYR may want to trade ADA

1) Heading into big contract
2) Doesn't play good defense
3) Logjam at RD
4) Too many offensive-heavy defensemen
5) Could get a solid return at a position of higher need

That's it. Those are the reasons. That's plenty.

If teams don't want politics interfering with their business, why would there be any interest to trade for ADA? I'd assume other teams take the same view point that they would rather not have the baggage that Tony brings.

Carpinello mentioned this as well as a concern

If and that's a big IF the rangers are planning on putting Deangelo back on the third pair as a righty to punish him for having an unpopular opinion that's cutting your nose off to spite your face.

As @Edge alluded to, just because someone tests negative for COVID does not mean that they are not having symptoms or can be contagious and transmitting the virus. When this whole nightmare started back in March, I had symptoms that felt like the flu on steroids. I've had the flu before and know what it feels like; what I had was another level above the flu in terms of intensity of symptoms. I'm in my 30's with no known medical issues/on no medications, etc, but I was knocked on my ass for over a week. Even with all that, I got tested on day 2 of having symptoms and tested negative for COVID. Basically, just because someone tests negative does not mean they don't have COVID, as well. There's always the chance of a false negative (would not be the first time) or a poor sample due to bad technique or what have you.

This could not be more incorrect. Everyone that works in a health care setting, hospital, lab, office, et al, from the doctor, nurse, receptionist, down to the janitors are held to the same standard in protecting a patient's health care information. @Kupo 's friend can get in serious trouble for leaking Mika's COVID results.

Kupo - just a little free advice. If you value your friendship with said friend you should have never posted that info. Your friend could get into a lot of trouble. Last thing I'm saying on the topic!

There has been so little info coming from training camp. Maybe Miller has impressed enough to make the team so TDA has been moved back to right side.
Man no one wants Miller to be a beast and succeed more than me but I just hope the Rangers are doing the right thing if he winds up getting a top 6 spot. I’m guessing only other option for him would be Hartford In February if he has a bit of a “setback”?
