I loved Zuccarello as much as anyone and didn't love the trade - especially since neither contingencies came to be.

That being said, we keep Zuccarello and Panarin isn't here and possibly playing for someone else in this division.

That should open and shut the conversation on this one.

I love Zuc
Trading him was mandatory for the Rebuild, Id take all our wings in the top 6 rn over him

Yeah, you just enjoy staying as loyal fans to mediocrity for eternity then. It will probably be another 50 years before seeing another cup win. I'm glad you're happy with that, because that will make your fandom much easier.

I hate the hard Cap, i believe the league and teams are not open or accurate re Hockey Generated Revenue, but in this Cap World, and TDL rental world, trade was ok. And they had offseason to consider reuniting. Love Zucc, wish he could be here, but Cap world means tough calls.

The Henke and Zucc decisions both suck as a fan, but it's the unfortunate reality in a salary cap world. It's not the best comparison, but honoring loyalty - depending how you structure previous contracts - is how you put yourself in permanent cap hell like San Jose. those long-term contracts into their thirties are gonna be killers.

The team had to blow it up. I’m sorry, I love the players they traded away, but it was the right thing to do. They couldn’t compete with the better teams anymore. We see what happens to teams that stay mired in mediocrity. “Good enough” to make the playoffs, only to get bounced out in the first round.

Yeah I’m really glad we traded Zuccarello. I’m a huge fan but that was undoubtedly the right now.

This is the definition of insanity. Blackwell can be your Zucc. Just call him Blackarello. If we were to let the fans run a team they’d have Lundqvist under contract still if his health was fine, Zucc, Brassard, etc. Wild will regret that deal big time.

No it wasn't and if you think people bitch too much about the Kreider contract . . .

I think the best point is Panarin probably signs with somebody else if we had Zuc. He's probably an Islander playing alongside Barzal.

Just think about how scary that would be.

I'd probably trade Zuccarello for a 7th rd pick if it mean avoiding that.

Loved Zucc when he was here, and he HAD earned the right to better communication from the team...

BUT, the trade had to happen, regardless of the return. You don't pay top line money to a guy who is a 1/2 line tweener, and you certainly don't do it when they are already in their 30s. This was my concern with Strome this past offseason (though he has been doing better than I thought he'd do)--we won't be a contender with a Strome at 2C. This is my concern with Buch--I hope he isn't looking to be paid as a first line RW, but if he is, then it's best to move him at the right time also (and Buch is one of my favorites on the current roster). Half of the problem with the Rangers has been a general lack of high end talent. The other half of the problem has been the fact that we pay mid-level talent at high end prices because that's where they played for us. Pay Buch as a top line RW and we will be in a world of trouble when Kakko and/or Kravtsov surpass him. Suddenly we have a very expensive 3rd liner. Only very rare players earn the right to decide when and how their time on a team is over. IMO, there have only been two or three in my lifetime (Leetch, Lundkvist, and Messier). Again, the communication should have been better, but moving Zucc was the right thing for the team to do.

Is this a serious thread? We had cap space for ARTEMI MOTHER f***ING PANARIN.

Agreed. I have no doubt the Rangers would have traded Kreider last year had they known they'd get Laf this year rather than sign him. Of course, you can't evaluate this kind of thing in hindsight. And that signing will be divisive for a while (but I ultimately think it was the right choice for the chemistry of the team and what they knew at the time).

But trading Zuc was actually a really good decision. I am happy he's having success on another team. But ultimately, this is a business and there are cap considerations. (I think Minnesota is nuts for giving him that contract).
