I don’t think Pastrnak left anything at the table. It just looks like he did cause they don’t have a bunch of guys capable of being paid like him.
They are a hard working team, I’ll give them that. But they haven’t won a cup either
Stanley Cup win in 2011
Stanley Cup loss in 2013
Conference Semifinals in 2014
Conference semifinals in 2018
Stanley Cup loss in 2019
Conference semifinals in 2020 and 2021

Shown balls to replace what needed replacing, including coaches.

Vs

What we’ve done for the last 7 years, and just run back the same shit every year, including a coach with no NHL resume who gets outclassed every playoffs. Hell, we were bringing back Dubas before he got himself fired.

Yes, I will have what the Bruins are having please.

I feel like the big change is getting a new coach. It did wonders in Edm. With the cap space this summer to get a new defenseman and a new system, maybe this team can feel different with out trading our core players.
Yeah really. Running back the failed Shanaplan yet one more year could have had a chance if they had changed something. Anything. But instead nothing.

Wish we'd extend Bertuzzi and Domi. Those guys are such Leafs to me. I'm already nervous about them leaving.
I don’t see either resigning here, they’ll be offered contracts the Leafs can’t afford because, well you know……..

This, in spades……..

When you use picks to acquire and retain rentals at the TDL and to fix the many mistakes, you eventually run out of picks. Tre just blew out 5.

This is what makes what Treliving just did so hard to swallow.

I don’t have any issues not blowing our brains out on bad deals. This team isn’t beating anyone.

But why piss away 5 draft picks as well as lose a young player like Lagesson for nothing to bring in 2 UFA’s who really are not tipping any scales our way?

We essentially lost 6 future players for nothing. Scarce assets that could have at least been used this summer to get trades done.

Lost Lagesson, further depleted our drafting/trade capital with

Brodie, Gio, Boosh, Edmundson as UFA’s.

Our defence next year right now is

Rielly-Liljegren (not feeling any Keefe love and poised to sit out 2nd consecutive playoffs)
McCabe-Benoit
Lajoie-Timmins

Makes no sense.

All I can say is it’s a resounding vote of non-confidence by Treliving, that I get, but wasting 6 assets like he did?

That I don’t get.

Interesting times and I think significant changes coming in the Summer. I just wish he held on to what we had to give himself as much ammunition to make trades/signings in the offseason.

We have the cap space to re sign them, but the main focus should be the d first.
So next year will be a better rounded D, 1 good forward line, 2/3rds of a second line and complete shit on the 3rd and 4th line, it’s still a recipe for disaster when half your cap goes to 4 forwards one who’s on a serious decline……..

Cap space, however, I'd be wary,

You can easily see Pesce or Roy getting contracts that will be too much for too long.
Again, both are five years past their prime, we don’t need anymore anchors, they’ll all want term…….

We brought in 2 defenders to help clear the crease and play a meaner game and a forward who filled a need of a defensively responsible PKer who competes. We can't really expect much because we're forced to rely heavily on our top 4 forwards since they all make 11 million a year. If they don't get it done these playoffs I think it's time to move on from 1 of them and with the new deals that'd have to be Marner or Tavares.

How is 29 year old Bertuzzi fine to give the money to then? Same thing and i'd rather Pesce/Roy/Walker

It’s not, I never said resign them, I said they won’t be affordable because half the cap goes to three guys who mail it in and one guy who’s toast……

We have about $22M in cap space, so we can re sign Bertuzzi and Domi, but if Bertuzzi wants $5M at 5 years. I don't think we should sign him. If Bertuzzi wants a Miles wood type of contract like $3.5M at 4 years, sure why not.

Ask yourself, in the land of overpayments, who’s settling for less……….

Just glad the Patriots stink now. That New England excellence was a bit much.
