Do you watch Californication with RUnkle?I view this trade deadline as a status quo. The real change was always going to come this off season, and it starts with the Keefe. If we don't make it to the conference final, Keefe is gone. We also have the cap space to make huge changes to our defense.
My take is that he is saying playoffs are a different beast. Brodie is a pending UFA too. Tre is basically saying.... I am giving you Boosh (RHD b/c thats all I could afford);. Edmundson who is going to bring a clear the net, in your face kinda game and Dewar to help with the PK.
You guys wanted to get paid; and you got paid so now show me that I should spend on you more in the playoffs.
Tre is throwing them a bone and is asking them to play a different style of hockey instead of fancy crap that doesn't work when there is no time and space in playoffs.
If Edmundson is a good fit he can be re-signed for cheap; we let Brodie walk and thats at least an NHL level LHD that can be had for lower than Brodie AAV; while next season we get to see youngsters on the roster who get their feet wet in NHL (Cowen, Minten, etc...)
It doesn't. There are countless examples of teams that won playoff series against division rivals that owned them in the regular season.
That being said, Boston has a better defense core and goaltending tandem than we do, and their stars tend to show up when it matters. If we meet them in the playoffs and expect to win, our stars will need to flip the script.
I showed my daughter when wendel went after mcsorely and when Tucker attacked Neil on ottawas bench.
She had never seen anything like it before, her jaw hit the floor, she smiled so widely, and she said “hockey used to be SO COOL! Is this before they invented safety?”
I said, “yes sweetheart, it was before they invented safety. Have you ever seen goalies fight? Check out potvin here….”
I want a team like that again, skill, grit, heart, zero f***s given, a team like the bruins or the panthers or the knights.
You know, the good f***ing teams?

Sort of.......Bertuzzi: $5.5 million
Brodie: $5.0 million
Klingberg: $4.15 million
Samsonov: $3.55 million
Domi: $3.0 million
Kampf: $2.4 million
Liljegren: $1.4 million
Cap raise: $4.2 million
That's a really good chunk of money to reshape the team with. Especially if you expect a couple guys on ELC's to slot in.
Sort of.......
Kampf isn't off the books next year and raises to 34 & 88 eat the Cap raise and all of Liljegren.
There's some money, but need to sign a decent goalie, 5 D, and 4 or 5 F (even if you keep Reaves and Holmberg)
The leafs did this to presidents trophy winning Ottawa teams for years.
We are the Ottawa senators now, it f***ing sucks.
We used to make fun of those guys, now WE ARE those guys
Minus the four Division wins and the President's Trophy, yes.

And if Leafs have to trade their 1st rounder in 2025; I'd rather have the asset for a full year; instead of a little bit. Gives that asset more of a chance.
Also leafs will have a lot of cap room in the off season to absorb a big contract (if need be).
This was a near perfect TDL for the Leafs IMO.
Brad gets to see:
- how the core performs first hand
- how keefe makes any adjustments
- make evaluation of who he wants to deal and not keep for next season if required (ex: Kampf)
what coach in your opinion can actually get these guys playing like a team? Keefe isn't my choice for coach, but there are 3 players who seem to run this team, not the coach........I view this trade deadline as a status quo. If Dubas didn’t sell the farm year after year, and if the Amirov tragedy didn’t happen, we might have some young and hungry players ready to step up right now
Maybe even some defensmen
The 2025 1st Rd'er is already long gone..We only have a 5th, 6th and 7th in 2025.And if Leafs have to trade their 1st rounder in 2025; I'd rather have the asset for a full year; instead of a little bit. Gives that asset more of a chance.

IMO Tre should and will use next year as a retool opportunity. Wait out Tavares' contract. Unless JT wants to go to another team to win the cup b/c Leafs aren't doing anything or wants to go on LTIR so Leafs can cap circumvent like VGK has done 2 years in a row and Bolts with Kucherov
Typo meant to say 2024 1st rounderThe 2025 1st Rd'er is already long gone..We only have a 5th, 6th and 7th in 2025.
Imagine thinking 8 years ago we wouldn't even have a division title lmao. And no that gimmicky ass North Division bullshit didn't countMinus the four Division wins and the President's Trophy, yes.
You be the judge:Boston also spent a ton of assets last year and got bounced in round 1. This current regime has not won a Stanley Cup. Why do we hold them in such high regard?
Little by little, he is making some subtle moves in the right direction imo. This team has some dog in it.....never thought Id say that again. I like that. Now will the stars join the war-dance with their comrades? cause without them in the fight, we cant win.Hopefully with Dubas gone Tre can right this ship

They both beat the Leafs so there are teams that are unbeatable...when it comes to the Leafs. No team is unbeatable, just ask the Panthers last year or the Habs a few years ago. I understand that this team is just a bunch of regular season heroes but gotta have some form of optimism they can finally do it. It is what it is.
I don't think it's fair to expect the manager of this team to have the same loser mentality.
A lot more worse actually. They were one win away from the cup finals in 2003, and finally reached the finals in 07.Ya, we’re actually worse than they were and still get bullied and embarrassed by real hockey teams
Yep, its where he belongs and where he has a chance to be effective. Please keep JT on the third. Him in the top 6 over the last 7 playoffs has not worked.
