Now that I think about it, I think it's Tom Wilson, as one of the posters on here hinted at the other day. This type of exaggerated response about "attitude" and that he is a hardass player who is actually "good" makes me think Tom Wilson. His cap hit is almost exactly what they offered Hyman (5.1). He's got a M-NTC but he's from Toronto and I can see him making the exception.
I can’t see Washington trading him. It’s unheard of to give up physical players who can play up and down the lineup

It would be hypocritical of Dubas to trade Kadri for boneheaded plays and then acquire Wilson.

My guess is Giroux with some retention.

no idea how TBL are going to scam the system again, or does Kuch get hurt hoisting the Stanley Cup and need to sit out until playoffs again?

Savard, Coleman, and Goodrow are gone as UFA and they still currently sit at MINUS $5mil on the Cap for next season with only 19 players signed, and they still have Foote that needs a contract as RFA and they need a backup goalie.
TB needs to sign 5 players to negative $1 million contracts to break even on the Cap

Stamkos is developing a jersey allergy as we speak.

It's on a US team who didn't make the playoffs so not Wilson.

Is the 5.1 for Hyman speculation or was there news that we made that offer?

Who the hell is this mystery man? I feel I'm going to be disappointed when I find out who he is given this exaggerated hype.
I don't think one player is going to fix it. Vegas, Tampa, NYI all play 12 guys up front the same way, its just a question of how much skill they have to go along with the overall effort.
We need about 5 forwards who play hard to raise the overall level of the forward group.

Adding a guy here and there is what we have tried the past couple years.

Its also a systemic organisational issue built through the draft. Our identity is created through the draft. We prioritize skill over other attributes. Teams like Boston, NYI, etc prioritise a different skillset and that ends up eventually contributing to the type of role players that fill out their rosters, and the overall identity of those teams. Until we shift this a bit, we will always be the same. We have noone in the pipeline that will bring those things we are missing.
You can still have the skill guys, just as those other teams do, but you need to surround them with that overall approach.

What do the Caps get out of this?

I agree with others here; Giroux (with retention) fits the bill and I'd be stoked to have him. Was one of my favourites back in the day.

Giroux would be a great addition, especially at a 4,137,500 cap hit.

I'm not sure what we have to offer... we have so few picks, so few roster players, and so few prospects right now.

Roster - I assume we don't want to move any of the big 4, nor any of the big 3 on D. That leaves Mikheyev, Engvall, Brooks, Holl, and Dermott.

Prospects - We need Sandin and Robertson on the roster next year. That leaves Liljegren, Amirov, and Abramov as serious pieces to move.

I don't think we can really assemble a good enough package.

Marner for Toews and Kane. Toews will be our Kuch next season.
If Dubas pulls this off, can’t say he is not going all in.

I don't see it either...it's not like Wilson is 32 years old.
When he’s 35 and doesn’t hit or fight anymore Dubas will sign him and Keefe will play him 8 minutes a game. The bare minimum of “adding” grit to the lineup is what this management is prepared to do

Can't see flyers trading their Captain to Toronto. Would have to be much more coming back then other teams - say a western team. Don't want Dubas overpaying. Don't think it would be Giroux.... but going for the mid 30s never won a cup leader, might be a better strategy than the late 30s early 40s never won a cup player.

He's tried never won the cup leader. Could try won the cup leader this year. Getzlaf ??

I'm thinking it may be Getzlaf too (or Toews). The others mentioned may not fit the bill:

Tom Wilson - I forgot that the player we are rumoured to be pursing was not in the playoffs this year. Wilson, as mentioned, was.
Doughty - His cap hit is huge (11 million). It would have to be an MM trade, which is still doubtful at this point in time.
Geroux - Still a great player so it would have to be a pretty significant trade for this to happen. Nylander? I hope not. I like Willy. Sandin +? What do the Flyers need?
Kane - same as Geroux although there are only 2 more years left on his contract. Maybe with significant retention. But, again, it has to be a significant trade. Also, the "attitude" thing.....I've never associated that with Kane.
Toews - Needs retention and has to be a significant trade. He is known to be serious and intense. A proven winner. Maybe him? Would Rielly be traded? I don't know Chicago's needs.

Getzlaf would be nice, but if they're hyping an aging Getzlaf as "significant"......:thumbd:
